I am beyond excited that my local brother dealer has agreed to trade in my 6 month old never used top of the Disney Scan n Cut model to upgrade to this new model equivalent here in Australia. The SDX330D comes with the rotary blade that is perfect for fabric. Both models are perfect for cutting fabric, just depends on which accessories you would like to have included in the box, and if you are interested in Disney.

I have one question what pens other then the brother brand are we able to use with the sdx 330d?

I just got my DX330 (Love It)!

I believe its the same as the SDX230 or SDX330. The machines do the same applications so you can watch the videos and still learn your machine. - Courtney

A lot of great info in this video. Does Heather have instructional videos that are project specific without the distractions of questions? By the time she got back to the watering can fter all the questions I had forgotten most of what she showed on how she got to that point. It's hard to keep on track with live videos. Hi Leigh! Have you tried using the Rotary Blade, and Sandwiching the fabric in-between two pieces of freezer paper that are ironed together?
@@allbrands1976 no but have tried heat and bond light paper ironed to the wool on the mat side. They works ok but still shifts. Maybe I will add freezer paper to the other side. Please looking for a video. Must have heat and bond on one side to use it for projects. Thanks

There appears to be a security measure in place for owners of the 125 DX machines (like what I own). The easiest way around that is to download high quality images off the Internet, then import them into Canvas Workspace on your PC using the image trace feature. Once that is done you can convert the results to draw and cut data to export to your DX series cutter. There really shouldn't be anything left to keep you from using them at that point.
But if there is a hiccup just print the downloaded images, run them through your DX machine using the scan to data (or scan to USB) or scan to cut feature. Use the on-board image trace feature to create your own cut and draw data, then where applicable choose where you want to store that data. Just know the internal storage on your cutter is quite small. Brother told me their newest machines only have 1.5 MegaBytes for internal storage! If that is an improvement over previous generations then our storage space is smaller yet.
Can you use the Baby-lock Meridian with the scan n cut.
Sure! You will just need to transfer designs with a USB stick.
One thing that never gets mentioned is the newer machines support 12x24 inch scanning at 600 DPI full color. But what I wonder is can the scanner's custom mode be used to scan in longer pieces if it were loaded via the roll feeder. I know the roll feeder is limited to about 9.9 inches wide but does allow up to 70 inches of material. If Brother could provide a software update to allow for 12x72 inch scanning at 600 DPI full color that would be fantastic.
Then if an update to their PC Canvas Workspace could also enable that then people could use a single design pane/panel without having to split it up into 12x12 or 12x24 inch sections. It would also be nice to just have that feature unlocked for all DX users instead of requiring the vinyl kit to be purchased first before enabling it. I've long suspected that all the DX machines with perhaps exception to the Disney patterns are shipped with the same features and content (patterns, fonts, features) that get unlocked only after certain kits are paid for and activated.
From a business perspective this is how you make a lower end model without having to stock unique hardware SKUs to equip each model differently. I like the cheaper 125e that I got because there are things I can't afford to enable at the moment that I am looking forward to playing around with when I do have the money. When my warranty expires I may take mine apart to see how the internal computer functions especially in regards to the storage, patterns, and the Wi-Fi module. If the Wi-Fi module can be removed there are adapters on the market that slot into m.2 connectors to force the use of LAN ports in place of the wireless radios.
For the lady wanting to import the new Disney designs you could ask a friend who already has the new machines to export the Disney designs to USB Flash Drive. That may allow you to import them for use on your earlier machine...possibly even pre-DX machines? If not that way they could be drawn with the scan n cut and then given to someone to scan into their machine using the built-in scanner, or drawn then scanned as a .PNG to preserve data. Once that is done a working copy can be made into the commonly used lossy .JPG format. This way you preserve all the original quality and then use the working copy in .JPG format to play with.
This year's 325DX and 330DX models support Connection mode for the Luminaire embroidery/sewing machine. A hardware design change that supposedly couldn't be upgraded at a repair center with a new radio/wi-fi module. Or even as a Do-It_Yourself type of upgrade. If there is a limit to the number of DX machines you can use with an installation of PC Canvas Workspace you could just install it to an external drive and try that. Like a USB Flash drive or USB Hard Drive. If that doesn't do the trick then install it to a different PC. Or if you don't mind switching between accounts on your PC then install the software to different accounts. Put your data in the public folder so that all of the different installations on that same PC can have access to all your creations.

I know you can't transfer designs wirelessly to the stellaire. Only the luminare, but can you transfer the designs from the scanncut 325 to the stellaire using a USB, and still turn the design into an applique?

Instead of using the my connection feature for the luminare I don't have? Is the scan n cut a good model for someone who doesn't have a luminare. What is the best model for someone who has a Stellaire?
Apologies for the confusion! Yes, you can transfer designs from the SDX225F to the Stellaire via a USB stick and vice versa. The 225F would be a great choice for doing applique, but if you'd like to have access to Disney designs as well then the 230DX is your best bet. The parts that are labelled DX will work in all of the DX machines. Many of the other accessories from the pre-DX series will work in the DX machines too. Just not their mats to my understanding.

Can I cut 5 inch fabric squares for quilting
Hi Darla, yes! you can even have it draw in the quarter inch seam allowance.
The scan n cut handles mats at 12x12 and 12x24 inches. The actual useful cutting space is about .25 to .50 inches smaller going left to right and front to back regardless of the size of the mat. There are cutting mats for regular tack, light tack, fabric tack in the two sizes. You can export the quilt patterns to their PC software Canvas Workspace to create even more cool looking patterns.
I did that using a 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. I've been having a blast creating new patterns by basically playing around with settings or combining some patterns with other patterns.
Is it compatible with the babylock Solaris
Hello! We haven't tried it, but have been told it does not. You can still use as a standalone product, and it will read the babylock embroidery files, just not transfer wirelessly to the machine. Barbara

Hello, This will absolutely work with any sewing machine. If you have the cut file to your embroidery design yes it will work with any embroidery machine. Most digitizers now include the cut files in with their patterns.
When is the best time to use the vinyl blade?
I personally like to use it when using sticky back vinyl because it has the weeding box function. I use it anytime I cut Vinyl. Hope that helps!

Yes. It will read .pes files. If you have a Luminaire you can transfer from the machine to the scanncut. Otherwise you can transfer through USB stick or wirelessly through canvas workspaec.
If your mat gets cuts on it does it effect it and is it best to buy a new one?

Peggy, No, that feature is exclusive to Brother Luminaire and Brother SDX330D, and SDX325 ScanNCuts.
How do you remove Heat n Bond lite when it sticks to the mat?
Hello Sherry! Try Totally Awesome and next time use a fabric mat with fabric side down. For the Totally Awesome spray a generous amount on your mat and let it sit for a moment. Use the scraper tool or an old credit card to scrape up the Head and Bond on the mat. Then take a paper towel and wipe down the mat. Let the mat sit for a few minutes and the stickiness should come back. Do this another time if needed.
Can this work with the Stellaire?

What Disney Innovis embroidery machines models work with what scan n cut models
The ScanNCut can work with any Brother machine using the USB Stick. If you have a Luminaire and the new SDX325 or SDX330D, they can transfer wirelessly back and forth. Otherwise you can use a USB Stick.
My 125e SDX does not support embroidery files. States it plainly in the machine's software version. To get that level of functionality Brother told me I would have to buy thousands of dollars worth of digitizing Brother software. Honestly it'd be loads cheaper to get a new Innov-Is series DX scan n cut.

I bought the new roll feeder 2 with a leader sheet. I already had activated my roll feeder 1. I tried to activate the roll feeder 2 and the software would not let me. It said that it was already activated. What’s wrong?
Hi Jonnie! If you had Roll Feeder 1 activated on CWS, you don't have to activate 2. It just wants the roll feed activation code so that it knows you actually have the roll feeder. If you want to donate or sell her old one, you can put the code in the box to make it work for the new owner.

Great video answering so many of my questions. I have never enjoyed appliqué because the iron on backing gums up my needle and it’s just almost impossible to do. I’m so glad to try the brother fusible just have to find it. It is very upsetting that Brother doesn’t make the Disney built in designs available for all Disney Scan and cut. I have the SDX230D and I love the designs on the new one. This is a lot of money to just buy another scan and cut again when mine is last years model. What is the best embroidery software to use in conjunction with the scan and cut and the PR655E embroidery machine? I have the PE 10. Thanks for this video great teacher!
Hi Patti, We sent this to Heather, and here is her response: Regarding the customer's question about software and the SNC and her 655E.
Her PED10 will work great with these machines, she does not need to upgrade. She would need to use a USB to transfer her designs between the three components though.
Some thoughts...
If she does a lot of applique, she may want to consider PED11 because the Applique Wizard is easier to use because it does more automatically.
If she wants her software and SNC to work wirelessly, she could use BES4.
With the SD card and adapter, her machine would be wireless, but in order for her SNC to be wireless she would need to ALSO get Powerpack 1 or 2.
BES Powerpack 2 would be my suggestion because it has so many great advanced artwork features such as making word collages.

This machine does not look to different from the sdx1200. That machine is awful. We do not need more disney characters, we need a total overhawl of the feeding mechanism. Or have they changed the rollers and the feeding of the mat?
Hi Peter, you might want to bring your machine to a local dealer to check it out. There were some mat changes that improved the feeding.
