Have been fond of Neil Finn and his amazing talents for decades. This song, in particular, makes me oftimes forget to breathe. Gorgeous like so many of his others. He should have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame long ago.
One of their best songs... I remembered getting this LP on Cassette and listening to it over and over. This song struck me so for Finn is a genius songwriter. The cradle is soft and warm . Brilliant lyrics and lovely melody ..Listening in Feb 2019 still wondering why they never got the recognition they deserved here in the States. We need more Neil Finn's just saying.... Music in 2017 and 2018 wasn't at it best but maybe I just still haven't gotten over late 70's and 80's bands and how many amazing ones there where during that time !
A masterpiece, period. Why in the hell isn't this man in The Songwriter's Hall of Fame?! Why in the hell isn't Crowded House inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame... and for that matter why isn't Neil inducted?!
I agree with you so much.He has made some great music. Very few singers have have his gift. Love him and the band and his brother Tim. One of the members of Crowded house , the drummer, is no longer with us (.
Many bands who understood the music before them tried to create something that could sit along side The Beatles music. This definitely was Crowded House's most successful attempt at that, becoming a beautiful, musical entity all on it's own, growing beyond the need to reference anything else but itself.
One of my favorite songs of all time. It didn't start out that way, but the more I hear it, the more I love it. The lyrics are masterful. The melody is haunting and beautiful. This is a horribly underrated band from the 80s.
You opened up your door I couldn't believe my luck You in your new blue dress Taking away my breath The cradle is soft and warm Couldn't do me no harm You're showing me how to give Into temptation Knowing full well the earth will rebel Into temptation A muddle of nervous words Could never amount to betrayal The sentence is all my own The price is to watch it fail As I turn to go You looked at me for half a second With an open invitation for me to go Into temptation Knowing full well the earth will rebel Into temptation Safe in the wide open arms of hell We can go sailing in Climb down, lose yourself when you linger long Into temptation Right where you belong The guilty get no sleep In the last slow hours of morning Experience is cheap I should've listened to the warning But the cradle is soft and warm Into temptation Knowing full well the earth will rebel Into your wide open arms No way to break the spell Don't tell

Driving around the country listening to this at top volume, smoking cloves out the window and crying...good times. Genius song.

Agreed

Their best song imo, genius, alot of memories connected to this song 😢😢
Masterpiece........👍🏽
is it illegal to listen to this awesome song 10 times?. digs deep into the heart. . thx
If it is, I am going to jail. I am on about 50 in a week. Neil's writing is like a conduit to the subconscious, truly.
I’m tempted to fall in love with this lovely song every time I hear it.
Read awhile back where Elvis Costello said this is a song he wished he would have written.
That's some high fucking praise!
O, how I love this song!
It's just perfect!
You opened up your door
I couldn't believe my luck
You in your new blue dress
Taking away my breath
The cradle is soft and warm
Couldn't do me no harm
You're showing me how to give
Into temptation
Knowing full well the earth will rebel
Into temptation
A muddle of nervous words
Could never amount to betrayal
The sentence is all my own
The price is to watch it fail
As I turn to go
You looked at me for half a second
With an open invitation for me to go
Into temptation
Knowing full well the earth will rebel
Into temptation
Safe in the wide open arms of hell
We can go sailing in
Climb down, lose yourself when you linger long
Into temptation
Right where you belong
The guilty get no sleep
In the last slow hours of morning
Experience is cheap
I should've listened to the warning
But the cradle is soft and warm
Into temptation
Knowing full well the earth will rebel
Into your wide open arms
No way to break the spell
Don't tell
This reminds me of A Day in The Life by the Beatles It too is excellent
Very much! I was just thinking that and came to see if anyone else thought so!
I don't understand why the Finn brothers are not in the rock and roll hall of fame for split enz,,and then Crowded house.
How in the hell did someone give this a thumbs Down? Ugh.
Neil robbing that cradle? "Don't tell... "
i think this album was out july 1988 in the usa.
💜😘❤
too dull for me in 1988 but by 2008 thought this was awesome.
Should've listened to the warning June 2016.
,....and now the end is near..June 2017
@mcswine57uk : Perfectly put. Does the same to me.
good song just do not like the rote themes of religion in music meant for the masses.
