This felt like a series of analyses and observations presented around an extended ad
There was no analysis. It was just an ad wrapped up in "Hey now most laptops are light and thin since 2012! Here are the specs of the sponsor laptop. Why? No point, but it's written in the contract"
Which is a good thing, right? It's like "If you hadn't paid me to talk about your product, I would've used another. But since you are, might as well talk about it." The laptop itself is ancillary at most
Yea it felt more like an add to me.
Yeah, dude really needs the plugs? Has more subs than god.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.
MKBHD be like "here's a thought I had on ultrabooks" and proceeds to do an ad for a laptop
Tbh the video should be called “thinkpad review/ad and my minor thoughts on ultra books”
Damn, he hasn`t said a single negative word about this thing. The best part: He hasn`t compared the specs of this Laptop to something like the MacBook, because it would get destroyed anyways. BUT LOOK AT THE WEIGT!! A fully plastic Laptop weighs less than a full aluminum one!! OMG!!! BUY IT RIGHT NOW!!!

It was such a confusing video,

True. Even if it was an ad for Lenovo, I don't think it even did justice to how crazy the Lenovo one is by grouping it with literally everything..
“Resume from sleep in >3s” … that is a greater than symbol…
"You can't resume from sleep in less than 3 seconds! YOU HEAR ME?!" :D
what side of the > is the 3 on jackass
@@germ2450 not very clever eh?
The ‘>’ symbol denotes how one object (left side) is greater than another (right side). As such, the way the sentence is set up on the video says ‘Resume from sleep greater than 3s’
For example, ‘5 > 3’ means 5 is greater than 3.
Got it?
What’s the time stamp?
Yeah, the symbol being wrong bugged me.
What the title should've been:

Hey Marques, I don't mind that it's an ad, it's 2021, we're happy when out favourite youtubers get sponsors. But I just wish you didn't go on this long winded "thought provoking discussion on ultrabooks" just to ease us into the advert. It just feels disingenuous. You could just talk about the ThinkPad directly. If it's an ad it's an ad. You don't need to Trojan horse it
I still have my first Ultrabook, I picked it up in 2012 at Costco, a HP 4-1043cl. I absolutely love this laptop, thin and light. Backlit keyboard, Core i5 3rd gen, HDMI and webcam. And it's super easy to open the bottom up for upgrading. I replaced the hybrid hard drive with a Samsung SSD 512gb, the RAM I boosted from 6gb to 12gb and I replaced the Wifi for 2.4/5gz. And all on the cheap, none of those components were expensive.

To be fair I was in a PC World here in the UK for the first time in years and was surprised at the selection of reasonably priced well build Windows 10 ultrabook types available.
This was just a really long ad. You can't expect to put any "general observations" about ultrabooks in a video sponsored by one particular ultrabook.
Exactly. If there was more representation of other products in the category, this could have come off better. But there's very little to hang on to here, and certainly went way too in-depth on one particular product for any video pertaining to be about a general tech category.
@@MindLessWiz this was an ad bro, he still managed to make it a little intersting and informational.

That's it. All you had to say. Why hide a showcase behind a genuinely intriguing title?
Because that title wouldn’t get views
I totally agree, if he only made the title about the laptop like he does phone reviews, none of us would be mad cause the video is about that certain product in the title.
But to have a title of a discussion of sort, and then hearing only a review of a sponsored laptop is bad.
Agreed. Also ditch the intro with the BS lead up about Ultrabooks.
Thumbs up MKBHD! Regardless of this being a sponsored vid, We need more analysis of affordable & effective laptops like this Thinkpad and not the flashy and over costly ones for a change . I've been using a thinkpad yoga for 2 years now and I love it, gets the work done.

This thinkpad name and the red pointer reminds me of my first IBM laptop. This also looks very similar to that laptop but this is very light and powerful.
"I think I'm going to be doing more of these, y'know, general videos on tech thoughts that I have; let me know if you'd be into that..." No, marques, not if they're all going to be these sneaky showcases pretending to be a conversation. Just, please no. I respect what you do to pay the bills, but I gave this one a thumbs down.
He could have just made a simple Lenovo video rather than trying to talk about ultra books using a single laptop
@@Random-fj4iq yeah it was probably because of that infamous car video that he tried this,
Also customary, this wasn't a review just a showcase
Exactly. I appreciate what he has to say in the meta level discussion videos about the industry in general. This ain't it.
1000000% agreed. wtf is this crap??
yeah pay the bills for his third tesla
I came in expecting some thoughtful discussion and left feeling like I got tricked into watching an ad. I didn't expect that from this channel. I would have felt better about this video if it was simply framed as a showcase for that lenovo laptop instead of disguising itself as a wider discussion.
There's literally a hashtag sponsor on it, don't watch it if you don't want to
@@Amar_Indo007 Just because there's a sponsor doesn't mean that millions of people don't have respect for what Marques has to say. When he titles a video "Why everything is an Ultrabook", even if there's a sponsor, we expect a higher level discussion not "Lenovo ThinkPad review: my thoughts". If you seem think both titles mean the same thing then you don't know how to read.
Exactly this, I thought I was the only one who felt this way as Marques does good meta level discussion videos from time to time and this title leads you to believe its one of those. I think I'll go back to Dave2D for laptops and Mrwhosetheboss for smartphones as they each also have a lot to contribute in terms of meta level discussion. That's what separates a great tech channel from ones that mindlessly pump out reviews for individual models like CNET. Even then something like The Verge has an element of discussion despite being a larger company.
@@User-cb4jm No one is gonna miss you.

This is going to be a chapter to watch in MKBHD’s career. It’s either going to be a learning experience, or the start of a new direction in content. I trust that Marques is smart enough not to alienate his core audience… Or will he “jump the shark”?
When this thing was launched, it was underatted. I said it will be a banger, and here you go...
