Challenge: how many times did we say
Funny you say that, I almost did but it was to late I'll look for the video if I locate it I will and let you know
Hey! I believe six times! 😅
Thank you being in our beautiful city. I hope someone has advised you, it is dangerous to eat “pequi” without someone teaching you how, specially the fruit itself. It has spines! 😜
@@robsontokuda I know about the stuff I've been there many times, you see I've been married to a Brazilian woman for 30 years with grandchildren
In belo horizonte u should say: ô trem bão (GOOD TRAIN) meaning that something is good. Train is not the verb but the vehicle that moves on tracks. Bão is the way they say bom.

Concordo. As vezes eu agradeço por ser dessa terra.
Oscar Niemeyer, the famous brazilian architect, did not design the city's street array but did design many iconic buildings around the Lagoa da Pampulha. That was around the 1950's. BH was designed in 1893.
Don't forget the Minas Gerais president Jucelino Kubitschek, he created Brasília and called Oscar Niemeyer
Aarão Réis was the engineer and urbanist that designed the city. Between 1894 and 1897
7:33 that building behind her was Niemeyer's design. 0:52 You can see the towers Edificio JK also Niemeyer's design, I have an apartment there. And so many others buildings.

Fun fact: We from Belo Horizonte, sometimes call the city Belory Hills, as a reference to Beverly Hills' hills. Glad to see you guys liked here! The animal from the start of the video is a Quati or Coati, in english. Also, the Praça do Papa, has this name because in the 90s the pope came here and blessed the city from that plaza, Praça do Papa translates to Pope's plaza
I'm from belo horizonte and never heard of that. Probly cuz I wouldn't be friendly to someone that degrade my city comparing it to a northern trash.
I also heard and said it a few times lol
Belory Hills RUN
Zero pessoas chamam BH assim.
Stop tryin to make 'Belory Hills' happen. We don't say that. Beagá. Period.
We do say Belory Hills, but also Beagá. One does not exclude the other one.
You killed me with "fui" in the end hahaha that's such a Brazilian thing to say

Amei a CDMX, San Miguel Alende e Cholula!!!
Orgulho do meu país Minas Gerais
Btw, the museum you guys went to is actually more of an art exibit, so that’s probably why there wasn’t a lot of learning to do, but I’m glad you enjoyed it 😅
I'm Mineiro living in Canada and I definitely recommend you both to visit historical cities, such as Ouro Preto, Tiradentes and Diamantina. Especially Ouro Preto. Minas Gerais started there (Mariana city, a city next to Ouro Preto), and it's the closest historical city to you. So many museums, and historical buildings everywhere you look. Charming and cozy restaurants. Also a natural reserve which you can have different experiences and admire how beautiful that place is. Whenever I go home, I spend a day or 2 in Ouro Preto/Mariana. Enjoy !
I'm also a mineira. I love this city ❤️

Voltaria a viver lá?
You need to know the historic city "Ouro Preto", I'm sure you will be enchanted. If you can, also get to know the rural area of Minas where there were many coffee plantations.
Honestly, I’ll be kind of disappointed if they don’t go there.

I lived in BH for more than 20 years. It is a great city to live. I used to walk in Praça da Liberdade by evening. It was great!

Fun fact: that stadium was the stage of... That famous match between Brazil and Germany, but we don't talk about it around here 😶
"Praça do Papa" means "Pope's square"...They named that place like that because , in the 80's, a famous pope(John Paul the second) went to BH to visity the city and and he celebrated mass in that square. I also recommend you to visit Mariana and Ouro Preto (if you guys enjoy history). Long time since my last time in BH (I lived in that city for about 4 years), now I'm living in Sydney, but still miss the people from Minas/BH and the great food. Enjoy!
Sou daqui e te dizer, amo a pampulha, praça do papa e a minha quebrada 🥰
I'm from São Paulo and i love Belo Horizonte. More organized and sweeter city. And i love cheese

hi guys, soon I will be moving to Belo Horizonte with my wife and 2 kids (7 and 13 anos). We are Venezuelans, living now in Buenos Aires (6 years now), going to live a new life in beautiful Belo Horizonte.!
My beautiful city “ Oh Minas Gerais quem te conhece não esquece jamais oh Minas Gerais “ ❤❤❤
It`s so weird, I cannot lose one Brazil video from you guys. It`s amazing seeing you discovering our culture. I wish I was in my hometown Recife and you guys were there also, there`s a LOT of museums over there and a lot of history about the period of Brazil`s discovery. I just wish you guys had a local telling you all about our food, country and culture.
Welcome to Belory Hills HAHAHA
Those quatis are super cute but I had my backpack stolen by them once LOL
I'm from here. I've been in many places but my favorte neighborhood in the world is that one next to Praça do Papa. The vibe + the fact that they are close to everything is just magical.
My uni was in Praça da Liberdade and I would go to that museum almost everyday after class.
I have some fun stories about this area too hahaha
When you started talking about liveble cities: BH is actually considered to be the best capital in the country to live. It's pretty safe, wheather is great + food and world's bar capital.
it doesn't get better than this ♥

Guys, I’m enjoying so much your videos! As you are visiting MG, you can’t miss Inhotim!
i like the way you travel, you stay a lot in one place, i as a romanian cannot even imagine going all the way to Brazil or Japan, South africa, etc and not spend at least 1-2 months there. Why go all that way only to stay 7 days
I am tempted to go to BH. This will be my second visit to Brazil and went to OP last year with a super short visit to Tiradentes which I loved. I would really like to spend the night there. Its an awesome town. I'm pulled thought between visiting another region or explore more of Minas. I will be traveling with my partner who hasn't been to Brazil before. Floripa would be nice as well or maybe the Serra Gaucha. The colonial architecture is amazing in Minas of which I'm a big fan. You feel like you are in Portugal for real. What to do?
we also love Floripa!!!!
@@JetLagWarriors It really is a tough decision and I think Floripa would be more chill(in a good way). We are going in early May which is not beach season per se but I bet it would be nice to visit. I remember seeing your video of Floripa and how you much you guys really enjoyed it.

First time I see a good video about Belo Horizonte, maybe not even Brazilians know Belo Horizonte as the tourist described it! congratulations on the video!
The animal you saw is " quati". Praça do Papa is "Pope Park". Papa means pope in Portuguese, not "father". You must visit Ouro Preto, a colonial city near BH
Speaking on Oscar Nyemayer, you didn't note that at Praça da Liberdade there are a tall building projected by him. In fact we can see it far away in some moments of the video. And you lost the gems and stones museum too. Take care not losing important things next time, as happened at Mercado Central, too.
Whenever someone in Brazil asks how big Toronto is, I usually say it is as big as BH. The city and the region have similar populations.
Gratitude for sharing our capital of Minas Gerais, kisses from Minas Gerais 🥰🥰🥰🇧🇷
Good work guys! I like how you guys are genuine, From a fellow Canadian, currently in Rio.
Belo Horizonte is such a lovely and beautiful city, you guys should try go to:

Só errou no Cruzeiro hein moça kkkk

Nice video, thanks so much!
You guys need to go to the feira hippie on avenida afonso pena on sunday morning. And bh has a lot of free cultural events bellow the viaduto santa tereza, theres also bars there and usually lots of young people drinking. Also go to the avenida sapucai the view is beautiful, and als bars at night.
Hey! Great recommendation! We went there yesterday.. the video will be up tomorrow :) . Hippie market is a great place
You should eat "Tutu de feijão", meet some waterfalls, find some uncle to make you coffee there...Enjoy the city, but the best in Minas is the countryside.
Estádio do Galo já faz parte do nosso horizonte
Most of the paintings in the Pampulha Church (the chapel you entered) are by Cândido Portinari, a very famous plastic artist in Brazilian Literature, we also have some works by Alfredo Ceschiatti, another very relevant artist. I suggest that you visit other cities close to Belo Horizonte, especially Ouro Preto. You will see a huge contrast between what is more modern in Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte) and what is more ancient (Ouro Preto). Ouro Preto was one of the main cities in the construction of the State of Minas Gerais, it is full of stories and marks of time. And it has a very pleasant atmosphere at night, when the city takes on an extra charm.
Nice city !!
03:04 That animal is called Quati ( _kooah tshee_ ). It's a South American species of raccoon (warmer climate = less fur than the North American raccoon). Anteater in Brazil is called Tamanduá ( _tah maan doo ah_ ).
Beautiful, both Ivana and Steve, the drone shots and this city! Keep safe, healthy and happy.

The further you go to the South, the more you will see the influence of immigration from various cultures in Brazil.

Hi Ivana & Steve, the animal you saw is a "QUATI". Have a great day.

The little animal you saw is called Quati ou Coati. It is quite common in the forested areas.
The panels inside and some outside Pampulha Chapel were painted by Candido Portinari (one of the greatest Brazilian painters) - in English: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Saint_Francis_of_Assisi
Thank you for the good words about my city! Great video!
Very down to earth locals, great local cuisine, beautiful women, pleasant climate, excellent views, and quite cosmopolitan. Mangabeiras is a terrific day trip on a weekend as well. One of the craziest things I did was walk from Santo Agostinho where my Airbnb all the way to a club called Chalezinho back in the day. Risky...I know...but the views as I kept ascending around the hills were insane. Speaking of Santo Agostinho, I actually prefer the areas surrounding Savassi moreso than that famed area in itself...Lourdes, Funcionarios, and Santo Agostinho.
Definitely one of my favorite cities in Brazil. Valeu Belo Horizonte!
Minas Gerais quem te conhece não esquece jamais
2:43 is not ant eater, they have long mouths in order to put them inside the anthill to eat the ants. This is a quati, brazilian version of raccoon.
oooo Brazilian racoon! Makes sense actually, sort of looks like that
I hope you guys enjoy the beautiful of Minas
Some people call Belo Horizonte “the biggest small town in Brazil”, meaning that, despite the giant size, it manages to keep the small town vibe, with nice people, everyone knowing each other, a slower pace, etc…

06:01 Meu Deus, cara!
nice video, just looking foward for the next one
Great looking city...love the drone shots..
A shame that the musem didn't have English subtitles or audio. This is something that we could improve.
Thank you for visiting my hometown, always welcome to Belo Horizonte, the capital of Mineiros!
It is great you are having a good time in Minas. It is an unique state in Brazil, rich in precious minerals, that it’s name from( Genera Minas), rolling hills, a lot of farms and surprisingly one of most industrialized states in Brazil. The state has a beautiful, modern capital with a friendly atmosphere. The state is pretty big with more than 800 cities.
Minas, on contrary of other states in Brazil, has its population ( Minas is the second in population, just behind São Paulo), spread out in all the corners of the state. You can find huge cities all around of the state, with high level of development.
This is why, Belo Horizonte is not a huge city as we see in other states. There is a better financial, educational and work distribution among the main cities in the state, keeping the young population in their cities.
You should visit also the Serra da canasta, where the best queijo do Brasil is produced. There are many farms producing this famous queijo, including the one that got the title best queijo in world in France/Belgium, couple years ago.
Enjoy you vacation,
My mother was born in a small town in Minas. I like to think I'm related to everyone in the state, as she had an aunt who had 17 kids.....Mineiros are famously hospitable and have the best food! I second the recommendations here to visit Ouro Preto. Mariana is another beautiful colonial town, quite close to OP.
The "anteater" is a "quati", in Portuguese! It can steal your food hahahah
I lov that u guys liking my city your welcome ! ❤❤
Awesome video!
Beautiful City
Belo Horizonte, this city is very beautiful.
Almost everywhere in Brazil is cheaper than Rio and São Paulo. Haha
I’m happy that you guys visited BH and enjoyed nature, food, drinks, and museums! Just a few small observations: - it’s true that the animal is not an anteater; it’s a coati (Nasua); - Praça do Papa means Pope’s Park (not Father’s Park), named after Pope John Paul II, who visited the city in 1980 and celebrated a mass right there in this park; - internationally renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer indeed designed some buildings, but not the center of the city, that was designed in late 1800s.
Welcome to Belory Hills! 😍
Make sure to go to more countryside cities of Minas, they're lovely. And visit Ouro Preto!
