Then it’s too bad we’re all ignorant to some extent, huh? It’s like serial killers. Why do we prosecute them from society? Because they don’t follow what we think is a “moral” code? Because they do things we don’t like? Things we don’t do? It’s all twisted. Sure, I think murders horrible… but simply because of that I don’t think we’ve a right to exact punishment. QOVES is one of those channels that will inevitably age like wine because his videos are arguably among the most truthful and non-biased forms of media there is on defining beauty. Through this channel and many like his, people are finally waking up to the fact of uncontrollable factors in life beyond you having an everlasting impact. Your height, beauty, intelligence, heath, and so on are all qualities given to you at birth and determine a large portion of the quality of life you will have. It’s unfair, and I think that’s why we willingly try to subvert the truth with ignorance. Why we do it is understandable, but no amount of defiance will make it false. At the end, if QOVES is unable to make you understand it’s importance... just live a bit longer. Life has a way of showing the truth for you.

    • @angusmarch1066
      @angusmarch1066 2 года назад

Your intelligence and health are not given to you at birth. In fact Qoves, said the opposite. Your education and upbringing dictate your intelligence and your access to healthcare and the attention you pay to self care dictates your overall health. Granted IQ is partially influenced by heritable genetic factors, but those genetic factors are themselves influenced by the aforementioned external material factors.

All of those things are slightly changeable from birth, I think the ratio is 60% your Gene's and 40% how you are raised.
If you have a bad diet and mouth breathe that effects your facial structure and athletic ability greatly.
If you don't eat enough high quality foods (mainly protein) and don't get enough sleep your height will greatly suffer (watch more plates more dates video on this).
Intelligence is most flexible of all, people who are born highly intelligent tend to restless because they bore quickly, if a child is taught key skills when they are very young and find a passion for something then their intelligence rises very quickly, this is the only trait that is still slightly flexible has an adult.
I wouldn't call health a trait but this is also flexible as well and comes from the combination of the other three traits you mentioned.

You are correct about people making it a point to not pass on genes that will cause suffering. I just found out that a coworker is finally pregnant after 5 years of fertility treatments. I was shocked when I learned that she and her husband didn't actually have an issue getting her pregnant. The problem was was that they learned they each carry a recessive gene that when combined causes her to miscarry or to have a child that will have issues if it survives. For that reason they took the route of IVF so that they could genetically test their embryos to make sure they can pick out the healthy ones to implant into her. Now that is a perfect example of eugenics.

I majored in Anthropology because I value understanding the differences among cultures. This channel just focuses on beauty, which is varied but still has commonalities regardless of geographic region, culture, race, etc. This is just anthropological research and findings.
Now historically, anthropologists have aided in creating a racial hierarchy with the measuring of skulls for example. The problem with this was not from attempting to understand the distinctions, it was the motive to use science (anthropology) to excuse the oppression and abuse of groups of people.

Being unattractive isn’t the same as having a severe disability. I don’t think unattractive people should feel like they should not have children because their children will be unattractive too.
I like the mathematical parts of your videos that talk about why we find different features attractive and what optimal ratios are for attraction. I started watching these videos less and less when the commentary started moving past that towards statements that seemed to equate beauty with good. Beauty isn’t achievable for everyone and you can be good without needing to be beautiful.

I think it's important to note that the more marginalised a group becomes, the more extremist or polarised their views become. It's not necessarily without merit because when your group is at risk of survival by a system that more or less allows it, everything that isn't explicitly pro-group is implicitly anti-group (or at least it can be perceived that way by said group). Given the state of things up ultil the present, it's not a completely unjustified perspective.
When in a position of relative privilege, it's difficult to really get a sense of that persistent lingering threat that those further down the spectrum from you might experience and I think, if just for the sake of sympathy in a good faith approach to discussing these topics, being mindful and respectful of that as a factor in communication might lend to more productive, inclusive discussions.

As someone born with a genetic disorder, I appreciate the fact that you tell it like it is. People with defective dna like me should not reproduce. However, medical improvements nowadays are making stuff like CRiSPER (genetic editing, practiced in all IVF treatments) and the conversation on eugenics should be open again. I would love to be a mother and if there’s a way for me to have a biological child without my defective dna disorder. Because telling disabled or neurodivergent folks to just give up on reproduction is ableist and eugenicist. We have the technology to fix this forever, we should be doing it to all possible pregnancies. If that was done correctly, I wouldn’t have been born, therefore no more painful life and worthless existence. No more "defective" people would be born. And I’m NOT saying this from an ableist POV because I’m disabled myself. The life of a "defective" person can be hell in many ways.

People may not understand the concept of eugenics to an in-depth degree as you obviously do but anxieties around the topic shouldn't be mockingly dismissed as uneducated foolishness but should be met with real compassion of the literal history and effects that beauty have on people's day to day lives.
I am glad we are finally in a place where people can talk about the reality of beauty. As you mentioned beauty is not wholly subjective and I find it infuriating when people try to suggest otherwise and gaslight people in regards to the real life material effects of ones attractiveness. Beauty is also about survival for many communities; a life or death situation for trans people and a whole history of abuse and dehumanization for black women.
Please do sympathise and show patience to people because there is not one of us that haven't been abused under systems of standerdised beauty, seeing these videos can be triggering a lot of trauma and feed and justify body dysmorphia. and of course this is not your aim nor your intention but it is a reality that must be accepted that this videos can help to find love for their features as well as trap people in a perpetual cycle of selfhatred and wanted to 'fix' themselves.

For example the blushing video. This channel just does not have the range that your comment requires. The mockery for some of the comments come from a lack of understanding of the history and use of Eugenics in the West as well (for example the response that China practices eugenics with the one child policy whereas America does not. Everyone deserves respect and happiness and if someone treats you like a subhuman just bcos ur jaw isn't strong, you have to blame the person and the system perpetuating it- mainly the monkey parts of our brains (the halo effect, etc.), not objective beauty as a concept. Explaining science is one thing, using it to torment others- another. Softer foods like rice and things like that cause the cheek bones to become less chiseled. Compared to Europeans where meat and beef are a main food staple, they can have more toned facial features. For example I have noticed for this video you used a random black women specifically for your thumbnail, but the woman from squid games in the other part. In your other thumbnails even if you use a pretty black woman you make sure they are more ‘fierce,’ which perhaps in Australia doesn’t have a negative connotation for Black women but in the US it does. Or you choose a mixed Black woman and specifically have analyzed them only. Which again is fine but it send a message. When analyzing faces you almost certainly choose white people and never make deeper comments about women with darker skin. I personally am not saying you subscribe to eugenics or the like. However, despite this channel being helpful to all it is clear there is a heavy lean towards whiteness, not in the sense that’s it’s better I mean featuring it and talking about it more. To be more clear I do not mean just people of European ancestry, I mean people with white skin. I do still find this channel beneficial, however I’d hope there would be some awareness in how darker skin is portrayed and how something as innocuous as a thumbnail could send a silent message. Facial features are not race specific and you keep talking about how the US is skin color focused but that’s a bit disingenuous IMO as colorism is a worldwide issue.

now it feels just so terribly awkward that he posted this video, knowing its literally just the one of the few videoes (published) of a black woman as the thumbnail. though its except not about beauty or a deeper discussion about discrimination against black women and/or discrimination when it comes to beauty. its this. and its fine to disagree, you're allowed to disagree with anyone despite of race or whatever. but its literally just... exhausting. though i thank him for the educational video. but my main point is that there's barely any diversity in his videos honestly, and its annoying. and even with the few thumbnails of black women, they're not even the main point in videos. ive been waiting for like ages for more diversity but i'm done waiting.
his channel has the opportunity to go deeper with beauty standards when it comes to black women beauty, especially since there's tons of people who is just so unfair to black women and their beauty due to racism, misogynoir and colorism. people can be so unfair to darker skinned people no matter if they're black or not as well... but he never takes that opportunity, and i don't think he ever will soon.

I’m an avid watcher but I’m sorry I can’t get behind you on this one. As most bioethicists would say, the concept of eugenics is inherently problematic because it gives way to harmful beliefs like genetic determinism, and both ideas are proven to be complete pseudo-scientific bs that undermine so many modern fields like epigenetics and child development. A good number of the examples you cited are generally not considered eugenics, as most genetic counselors emphasize the need to take a neutral approach in medical settings so that the focus is placed patient autonomy, and not explicitly the idea of “Improving the human race” through reproductive intervention or pressures. Even if eugenics is still explicitly practiced and common in some places like sperm banks, this doesn’t make the concept of eugenics itself anymore “okay.” It just doesn’t sit right with me for someone to say that eugenics isn’t inherently harmful when it isn’t even a valid concept in the scientific community.

I agree, the examples given are to show that you can call anything eugenics. However the idea of reproductive autonomy is a highly individualist concept that is prevalent in the west. In collectivist cultures, people would do what they need to do for the rest of society without argument, if that means having less kids or not passing on deleterious alleles, then so be it. Just like no freedom is bad, too much freedom is to the deteriment of everyone else. Coming from a social science background, people fail to consider that american 'muh freedom' isnt the only functioning society.

People need to understand that eugenic-like practices didn't simply cease to exist because it's not a government program anymore, people literally judge others based on their tangible features constantly.

judging someone by their looks" can be more accurately described as the act of assessing a person purely through visual markers which may be connected to a concept of genetic fitness. From merely a person's physical looks, various aspects of the internal world of the person are imputed: their personality, temperament, intelligence. Beyond this, the previous attributes also implies the moral character of a person, simply from their outward appearance.
From this definition, every person reading this is probably acutely aware that, in reality a person's outward appearance doesn't accurately reflect what is internal to a person. It is merely an involuntary behaviour that evolved in earlier times when humans were living in small tribes and thus a person's pure physical traits were more directly correlated to one's survival. Contrast this with modern society where there is a surplus of food, medical technology, an open society, and the division of labor. Pure physical genetics isn't so closely tied to a person's survival, and doesn't speak on whether a person will have a meaningful and fulfilling life. Putting the most value on the physical genetics of a person (genetic traits that are apparent physically), colloquially referred to as judging someone by their looks, is therefore an apparent cognitive bias that should be overcome as much as possible if society is to progress in a more just and equal direction.
I believe the orientation of the channel which acts to provide various scientific rubrics to assess physical attractiveness in effect works to reify this cognitive bias as do other fields such as the "luxury fashion industry", and "reality television", which construct and reinforce this idea for a profit motive. I think that this channel could reflect more on the value that society puts on physical genetics and how it reinforces society's dominant structures and narratives.

Still, just because you're "genetically gifted" in terms of physical features does not necessarily mean you will be a good parent. There are plenty of parents that should never have children but because you're saying that solely because they are physically attractive that is the sole reason they get to have children. Never takes into account things like money or the character of that person.

Saying that eugenics is everywhere doesn’t make it right. This channel got accusations of using eugenics and instead of denying them, they instead say that eugenics should be normalized? Having the experience needed to be a surgeon is completely different from being “good enough” to have children since that is literally what you’re saying. And who is this narc RUclipsr to decide who gets to be a parent? Oh no, this stranger deems my genes not worthy. I agree that not everyone should be a parent, because some people would be bad parents. Not because their genes are not “worthy” enough. I used to follow this channel but now I realize that the operator is so manipulative. Using random facts they cherry picked to make their point.

I don’t even think these people can define what ‘eugenics’ really means. The study of physical beauty and aesthetics has been something long studied even in philosophical terms. No one on this channel is stating we ought to rid of people for being less attractive (this is of course the more extreme version of eugenics)
This channel merely explains why we perceive certain people as beautiful.. to state that Qoves studio is perpetuating eugenics is a very dumb argument. Sure genetics might play a part in beauty BUT Qoves Studio also talks about understanding what we can do to improve our looks whether it’s ‘natural beauty’ or enhanced beauty.
A beautiful person is beautiful regardless of what said person has done to achieve that beauty.
Having said that, I think Qoves Studio does an amazing job at analysing aesthetics & I’m glad your channel is educational. There are enough mediocre channels out there

Bro, you shouldnt refer to yourself as subfive. I like Qoves' work, its interesting but it seems that people on both sides are getting the wrong idea. The idea isnt to hide yourself from bright lights and crowds and deny yourself love or a family if that is what you want. There may be an empirical element to physical attractiveness, but that isnt the be all and end all of attraction as a whole. Im sure that you have qualities that would make you loveable and that any child you choose to bring into this world would be lucky to have you. But that low self esteem will hold you back from doing that. And if you really are that focussed on looks, there are plenty of things you can do to look more attractive.

But I choose not to have children because I know I wouldn’t be able to give a child all of the care it would need as there are times where I have to remove myself from others for x amount of time until I feel better. Not a good mix for a child. Many people with Bipolar also resent me for this but their children are their caretakers. I certainly was for my Mother. Clearly that played a role in my decision. Not necessarily the same thing as Eugenics because you actually more likely to find a partner especially when Manic because of hyper sexually and just charm and risk taking in general. But relevant because many people with severe mental illness, especially millennials, that is genetic, choose not to have kids, but there needs to be more studies done .But if this trend continue it may end up being a stem of eugenics. @@QOVESStudio I like your channel and what you do but I think your response to criticisms isn't quite there. Firstly, I found it odd that you used CF as an example when you deal with aesthetics on this channel. I don't think CF and something like a recessed jaw should be equated together. Also because a lot of facial features are also determined by environment as well as genetics like you've said many times. It's just a bit odd because although you didn't say it, by using the CF example it's like you're saying people with undesirable aesthetic features (not just genetic diseases) would not want to procreate. Even though that's not true at all. And I'm not sure what you mean by the "far left agenda" to be honest. The reason I like your channel is that you speak about many types of beauty standards objective and subjective. I don't see that as being so disconnected from the people you complained about that advocate for more acceptance of people that look average or even unusual. I can see why you're frustrated by the eugenics arguments because these people have probably not seen the rest of your work. But doubling down and saying everyone practices eugenics all the time is inaccurate in my opinion. Selective breeding is not the same as eugenics at all. And I can't help but notice comments from people of certain political leanings who think that you're corroborating their prejudices that some racial groups are inherently inferior because they have certain physical traits. Or that certain racial groups are intellectually inferior because they have these physical traits. Not saying that that is what you said at all because it isn't, but some people are interpreting your words as such. Anyway, this isn't a jab at your work because I really do like your channel
