A record of the Kani tribal people living in the forests of the Western Ghats located in Nagercoil area of Kanyakumari district.There are about 50 to 60 houses in the village called Maruthuparai.All the houses are isolated in the forest, not close together like a residential area.There is no bus facility to the village. They have to go through the dense forests full of elephants.They live among wild animals by doing agriculture.
The Kani tribals are a traditionally nomadic community, who now lead a primarily settled life in the forests of the Agasthyamalai hills of the Western Ghats (a mountain range along south-western India), in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.
Nestled in the tropical forests of the Agasthyamalai hills of the Western Ghats, a mountain range in Kerala state, India, live the indigenous Kani tribe, traditionally a nomadic people with a population of almost 25,000.
Kanikkaran, also known as Kani, is a Dravidian language spoken by about 19,000 Kanikkar tribals in southern India. They dwell in forests and hills of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts of Kerala, and Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts of Tamil Nadu. It is called malambhāsha, or "hill-language."
Kanis are basically agriculturists, who make the southern Western Ghats of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Trivandrum districts of south India their home.
The Kani tribals usually prepare medicines in a combination of several plant parts. They believe that combi- nation of several plant parts cures diseases rapidly.
Their use of the forest plant arogyapacha (trichopus zeylanicus) as a key ingredient in a herbal remedy called Jeevani was noted by visiting scientists in the 1980s. The formula was eventually developed as a commercial enterprise by Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, with the tribe's Kerala Kani Welfare Trust receiving license fees and royalties. Members have been encouraged to cultivate the plant.
கன்னியாகுமாரி மாவட்டம் நாகர்கோவில் பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள மேற்கு தொடர்ச்சி மலை காடுகளில் வாழும் காணி பழங்குடியின மக்களை பற்றிய பதிவு. மருதுப்பாறை என்னும் கிராமத்தில் சுமார் 50 முதல் 60 வீடுகள் உள்ளது. வீடுகள் அனைத்தும் குடியிருப்பு பகுதியை போல் நெருக்கமாக இல்லாமல் காடுகளில் தனி தனியாக அமைந்துள்ளது. கிராமத்திற்கு பேருந்து வசதி கிடையாது.யானைகள் நிறைந்த அடர்ந்த காடுகளின் வழியே இவர்கள் சென்று வர வேண்டும்.வனவிலங்குகள் மத்தியிலும் விவசாயம் செய்து வாழ்ந்து வருகின்றனர்.
கானி பழங்குடியினர் பாரம்பரியமாக நாடோடி சமூகம், அவர்கள் இப்போது கேரளாவின் திருவனந்தபுரம் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலைகளின் (தென்மேற்கு இந்தியாவை ஒட்டிய மலைத்தொடர்) அகஸ்தியமலை மலைகளின் காடுகளில் முதன்மையாக குடியேறிய வாழ்க்கை வாழ்கின்றனர்.
தென்னிந்தியாவில் சுமார் 19,000 காணிக்கர் பழங்குடியினரால் பேசப்படும் ஒரு திராவிட மொழி, கனி என்றும் அழைக்கப்படும் கேணிக்காரன். அவர்கள் கேரளாவின் திருவனந்தபுரம் மற்றும் கொல்லம் மாவட்டங்கள் மற்றும் தமிழ்நாட்டின் கன்னியாகுமரி மற்றும் திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டங்களின் காடுகள் மற்றும் மலைகளில் வாழ்கின்றனர். இது மலம்பாஷா அல்லது "மலை மொழி" என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
