I've gotten a lot of comments and messages about opening up my videos to give them some background music while studying or getting some kind of work done. So here's a video made specifically for that. Just a straight half hour of jamming on my 8 string.
My guitar courses are available within the Guitareo membership :)

+MrCsa77 It's clear who's using this video to procrastinate :P
+YippieKiYaayy he needs to do one like that meme of the cat that can sing

first person not to djent on an 8 string. so proud
Dagobarre they are djent though, tosin said it himself
phunmaster2000 Well as far as I know Tosin said Djent is just a guitar tone and not an own genre of music.. they also sound more progressiv rock/metal for me.. aaaand you can't say even if they are "djent" they make the stereo type "8string only DAT TONE" djent :D
djent is a subgenre of progressive, saying they sound progressive doesn't really change anything.
yes I think I have steve treberry right?
Check my band Froot Soop on iTunes. We are a jazz band, I play 8 and our other guitarist is a 7 player. I think you'll find zero djent there haha.
This greatly helped me deal with some hard times. Rob, even if you never read this, thank you so much.
I like how your cat changes colors.
+oege kooistra Pretty trippy
Haven't you learned anything from Meshugga about 8 string? You are using way too many of those strings man.
Music is music. There isn't a right or wrong way to play it.
Noah Porter I believe it was sarcasm man
Noah Porter True, but there is a huge difference between shitty and good music.
BignattyBrubz hue Lol you little jealous :)
Nice job rob by the way ;)
BignattyBrubz hue Yeah man, Meshuggah is shitty... which explains why they are one of the most recognized Djent bands out there, huh? On top of that, they are a monster when it comes to rhythms.
pretty good. Except that slide at 3:52, that upset Mr. Cat quite a bit...pretty unforgivable move, but Rob Scallon knew exactly what he was doing. His loss...
When I imagine someone playing an 8 string my first thought is that it's hardcore death metalcore or whatever, this is much better
8 hours of halfstring guitar?
+F4iM3R.. Did a lol irl because of this, it's late.
Excuse me. What!?!?!
What would a halfstring even be lol
@@zebrapringlez3141 I guess the title changed in the last 8 years I think it was „half an hour of 8 string guitar“ before
I like Rob because he realizes that he is playing an 8 string guitar, not like a lot of modern players that focus to much on their periphery vision and they cant see past the seventh string...
+Alonsinho Gomez Because periphery uses only the first two, right?
Peripheric Yeah it was a trying to do a joke.
I know that periphery can play through all the guitar, but I thought that still was a good joke
+Alonsinho Gomez jokes typically have humor to them. dont blame uncreativity on a creative band
Peripheric Periphery is still considered by a large amount of people as djent. This joke was intended the same way black humor is applied. A lot of times we dont belive what we say, for example like "Kill the jews'' this joke was applied using the perspective that all djent bands only use the first strings of an eight string. Which this is a comical subject as it is evidenced by all the parodies on youtube.
Adding the fact that "periphery vision and cant see past the 7 string" can be interpreted as focusing too much your perception in the band periphery, while at the same time thinking that 8 string guitars consist only on the last two strings. Which will lead that 8 string only are used in the metal genre. We can see that a lot of people that identify djent as a genre that only consist on the rhythmical playing of those said strings
I play this to go to sleep sometimes.
I pretty much always use either this or the bass jam to sleep, helps with the nightmares
Awesome, dude. So chill. Great writing music.
Thanks Jake!
Bryan isn't still giving you a hard time is he? #lols
If he keeps breaking into my house like that he'll soon be doing some hard time.
pineappleboyfilms
Lol did you throw a party and forget to lock the doors?

+Matt Reisenweber (chronicthehemphog) looks like the window was open.
who wouldnt want to be his neighbor?
That was wonderful.
The baby just stopped crying, saw this and put is on and we just relaxed the whole Easter stress away.
Thumbs up if you were sad every time all cats disappeared and happy when they returned 👍
Going to be honest, waited at least 5 minutes for the cat to leave before I "really" started listening. After he left, I noticed the ambiance, and here I remain.
I was doing my homework whilst listening to this and it ended just as I finished. Perfect! :)
should be spending more time on your homework than that!
Alfie Fell haha true
Alfie Fell Seriously? It's 30 minutes a subject and I usually end up spending more time on homework anyway because I'm just naturally quite slow and not very good at school work. It might have been the easiest homework ever too. If you think I should be overworking myself, you clearly need to take a step back and look at yourself.
hahahaha nice troll that got me going

Ordered an omen 8 couple days ago. Then noticed one hanging on Rob's wall in another video. Started finding the videos with it in it. Now I feel I've definitely made the right choice buying one. Thnx Rob.
I'm a military vet with PTSD and was in a very pissed off mood till I listened to this thanks for the awesome calm down session think I'll keep using this session to keep the anger and anxiety down
This is literally the 500th time I've watched this video all I want to say is thank you Rob Scallon you inspired me to get an 8 string and just use it for more than just metal riffs and still learning how to use every string and every note thanks again for your amazing work bro keep jamming and putting up these vids
Now this is the type of music to sit down, relax with a cup of coffee/tea by my side, and just stare off into the trees. I live among the California Redwoods, so the setting is just perfect right now!
You owe me 1 minute and 5 seconds of 8 stringed guitar!
+Slapknut Surely its 3 minutes and 5 seconds? ;)
Sam Bosworth he doesn't want to push his luck
Good idea, it's nice to hear some ambient jamming once in a while. It'd be fun to see audience retention stats once this video gets some more views, I wonder how many people will actually leave it going for the full time
I'm really curious about that too, none of my videos are anywhere near this long. It will be interesting to see what the average duration watched is.
***** Perfectly medicated is what i read.
Just before sleep you fool......
+Brigham it's great for studying. I feel it might be a bit hard to give it full attention for 30 minutes, but makes for a nice mood-setter.
+Rob Scallon i play this in the backround while im doing math homework, as it makes me less likely to break things, so I listen to it in its entirety at least. Great song, im jelly of your skills
The chord he plays at 0:27 sends chills up my spine each time.
How`s that orange cat doing, 2 and a half years later?
If you go to his second channel and watch the Rain lesson he posted recently, Ike shows upz
what a great music for studying
This is what I am talking about! Music is a universal language. This is speaking so clearly. It does not matter how many strings, or what tuning. If it makes sense to you, then it has spoken to you. It does not talk so much with others unfortunately. Cannot please everyone. This is such an inspiring influence of a video! Please keep these going when you are set in the moments to do so!
This makes me want to buy an 8 string guitar immediately
Just chilling and doing my homework. Life's good.
was expecting half an hour of djent
cause it sounds heavy
except it's almost a requirement.
*good* djent artists use the full spectrum of notes on an extended-range guitar.
true that (y)
I want to listen to this as I'm dying
The cats made it extra peaceful just how they are sitting there and looking out of the widow
This+fireplace video+rainy mood
With maybe a good book.
Robert Laughman either a called rainy autum day or a sunny spring day starring out of your window into a bright and fresh park
This is now my go to track to listen to when doing coursework.
It's amazing how do this so quietly and soothing. Most people would do this for about 30 seconds and switch to heavy distortion and just Palm mute chugs the rest of the time
3:53 "Squirrel!"
23:24 "Darn squirrel got away."
Just saying out of all the best RUclips guitarist/musicians on the platform, and including all of Jared's shred collab videos rob seems like he'd be the coolest one to chill with and he is by far one of the most talented. But he seems like he'd have a really cool personality to chill with
3:52 CAT NO, YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO LIVE FOR.
Great dynamics... sounds like two guitars jamming
I don't really notice anyone saying thanks for this video, even though you took half an hour of your time to record this, so I'll just say it instead. Thank you for taking the time to record the song, and keep up the amazing work.
After working for seven days in a row, this what I needed to relax. Keep up the good work and I can't to what's next.
This is so much better than any djenty, metal head craziness.
+Caleb Brown Clearly youve never heard of Mestis or Animals as Leaders
it does remind one that extended-range guitars have so much potential outside of djent, yes!
I just turned the brightness on my screen down and laid in a dark room. It was beautiful. You could experience any wonderful moment in life if you just lay there and listen to this.
Rob, I want to thank you for the good healthy cry. I was enjoying this very much and then I caught sight of your bullseye tabby cat. It looks just like my Jack. He died a year ago at 17 yr old. Your beautiful music combined with this reality just broke me down. Not complaining. Sometimes we need to cry. Thanks for the memory and the music. Peace :)
Its pretty cool to hear you jamming in my living room while i'm cooking.
I started watching this channel because of all the skits and funny little videos, but i never knew that this was a part of his channel. And i love it.
i listen your music whena i do my homework, when i am riding my bike, when i go to school. You're ameswome, Rob.
Half hour of theremin next?
It's so relaxing. I took a nap while this played a few days ago, some of the best sleep I've ever had.
i never want this to end...
I think you might be my favorite human being I havnt met, I've been a fan for years, but recently became a superfan, I've fallen asleep to either this or the other 8 string one every night for the past 2 months
Indeed did your smooth improvisation help me focus on my work. A huge thanks to you Rob, my wish is for you to continue doing what you love, and sharing the grandiose creations of yours with us.
Again thank you Rob
This makes me want to play my eight string, but the main reason I came here is to relax this and anchor just zones me out completely, everything to do with these songs with the deep lows and the highs are perfectly pitched to go with it.. This music is why I got my eight string not for the progressive metal use but for the extended range to experiment with.
Keep doing what you do rob \m/
i've never watched this video in its entirety. it's so calming it lulls me to sleep.
I love these videos. I've been studying all afternoon for these, acoustic, 12 string, bass and now this, it's really working
I love these videos, Rob. I always come back to them. I like to listen to them when I study :)
Watched- or rather, listened to the whole thing while sketching and drawing. Very relaxing.
This is awesome dude. Really appreciate all the great videos you have up. Extremely talented, you'll go far...
How badass would it be if rob was your neighbor that you just chilled out with.
dude I just want to say that I love your guitar work. Everything that you make and come up with is just amazing. I look forward to your videos every time they come out! Your album is just top chart stuff. I hope to be an amazing guitar player like you some day! Never change Rob
This is awesome, love all the songs and stuff you make with the 8-string
Oh, this is beautiful. I love it. It's so calm and relaxing, and it's GREAT music to listen to while taking a nap or working on homework :) thank you so much, this was just what I needed!
Thanks for the study jams! Much appreciated.
Amazing work, truly enjoyed every second of it. Sharing this with all my friends and family.
Dude, love your music! So chill. Definitely could listen to this while doing school work.
the point of these videos is to let me concentrate on homework...then your are over here doing bell tones at the end and i lose my shit xD i love you Rob Scallon, you are my hero.
I love the mellow at-home setting.
Thank you Rob! Best half hour of my morning thus far.
That was very soothing and helpful for work, thanks Rob.
This is basically ASMR for music people. Beautiful.
this truly is a beautiful piece of art, this helps me go to sleep every night, keep up the good work rob
This. Just this. This makes me feel something. And that, I think, is the pure essence and soul of music. Thank you for this.
I love this ambient music kinda stuff so much. Reminds me of cloudkicker.
Please, man, make more of these videos they are so amazing!
Nice ambience for studying, 5/5. This and the bass video are my favourite for background music. Well done, bro.
Beautiful and calming. Keep up the awesome work!
keep up the good work Rob !!! amazing piece of art
This is so soothing, you're awesome Rob!
This is beautiful. Heard you play in Houston (and actually had the pleasure of talking to you for a while afterwards) and stumbled upon this beauty. This is truly lovely, and I will enjoy relaxing to this frequently in the future. 27 minutes of my life well spent just now :)
So smooth! I love it!
Thanks for this video, it's great. And the cats in the background make it even better
Been falling asleep to this since middle school and now im about to graduate. I love this man
I just inherited my 1st 8 string guitar and this inspired me to try my hand at it, thank you Rob!
I love studying to these half an hour pieces, they really help me focas
Beautiful job man. This is why you're my idol when it comes to music!
This was the perfect thing to listen to while I wrote my essay. Thank you!
Using this video to it's exact specifications ;)
Enjoy listening to you play. I can definitely hear your influences in your playing. Beautiful piece.
Super relaxing dude, thanks for the music.
I actually fell asleep listening to this, its so soothing. Amazing work! I really love it
This is such a relaxing listen, thank you fo dis :3
That sound is just fantastic, the kind of sound that's perfect for a jam session.
Hey Rob. I just think your music is absolutely wonderful. Makes me feel good about stuff. You should do more of these half hour jams.
Well that was lovely. Thank you for posting this.
I need more of this stuff. I can listen to it whole days
Dude. There's so much I was missing out on of Fluff's mix. Got new headphones and a portable headphone amp and I can actually hear it all now!
Helped me with finishing my homework.
Thanks, Rob!
This is some of the most relaxing music ever... To me anyway.. thank you
Awesome job.. very relaxing effect!
This is celestial.. Thank you Rob
