The term ‘white elephant’ originated in modern day Thailand, describing a gift that is unwanted or in some cases they are much more trouble than it is worth. An elephant is sacred and highly valued but difficult to care for, becoming a burden. Today it has become an amusing and fun gift exchange game played at Christmas parties.
