A high school friend of mine died on this flight. The irony -- she wasn't scheduled originally to get on this flight, but a later one that day. Eager to get home to the States, a Pan Am rep got her a seat on this flight. My friend's death tore the family apart. One parent blamed the other, vice versa. They divorced. A few days after the crash, the parents got a post card from their, mailed from the departure airport, saying she loved them and would be home soon.

I mean, with 16,000 crying children Every Single Day, starved to painful death, in spite of the fact there is plenty of food in our world, did they get a fair Piece of what is here or were they casualtes of war, just as then plane?

The fact that some people were found conscious on the floor is scary and crazy. Just like twa 800 , the passengers in the back must have seen to much and I read somewhere that some passengers were holding hands when the plane fell. The fear and the thoughts going through those people he’d just have been absolutely horrendous.

Hello all. My name is Michael. I was 18 months old at the time of my dear friend's passing - he was a passenger who was making his way home for the holidays. Last year, I paid my respects to the 269 persons on the plane and those 11 souls who died on the ground in Lockerbie. I haven't talked to many people about this disaster, but I truly appreciate the outreach of those who know tragedy. Thank you for your courage- those who fell to the earth on the night of December 21, 1988 will always be in my hearts

I had a neighbor, two doors down, whose husband was on this flight.
Also, a man worked in my company in my office, whose son was one of the Syracuse students. What are the odds I would personally know two families who suffered through this? For the neighbor widow, I always went to her house and did her driveway and sidewalks every time it snowed. It was all I could do for her. She was so deeply affected. She also had a very young daughter (a year or two old) when this happened.

My 1st cousin and her husband of 6 months perished in this bombing. I did end up visiting Lockerbie and met with the village constable and minister who gave us a tour of sorts. All of the people we met were salt of the earth, decent and kind. Before this the town was known only for it’s butter factory! Nothing more to say except I coincidentally came upon this video 33 years to the day later. God speed cousin and to everyone who was lost that devastating night.

I note the following comments from the flog 'em and hang 'em brigade: Even public execution believe it or not. However, there was always doubt about the guilt of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi. The best amateur authority on this was Dr Jim Swire, of Bromsgrove. Worcestershire, UK. (Medical doctor.) His daughter died in the tragedy and he spent the rest of his life investigating it. He visited Abdelbaset al-Megrahi in gaol several times and developed a relationship with him. He was never convinced of Megrahi's guilt. He also was convinced that the CIA were involved in some way. He only ever wanted the truth but died unsatisfied. It appears from the comments following that ther are people who would be happy to subject an innocent person to utterly barbaric deaths to satisfy their punishment lust than to be curious enough to want to know exactly what happened.

Unless you are suicidal. Eitherway if your life get ”stolen” you would say someone took a life. That being said you also lose your life as a result. So it’s perfectly fine to say these people lost their lives or saying the murderer took all their lives.

So he kills 270 people. Those were dads, moms, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, & now no grandkids, weddings & the pain & suffering goes on to this day & forever & somehow the best solution is to let him go home after committing such a crime? And to make it worse you have the audacity to somehow justify this action? You give this worthless POS freedom? The real crime is that you weren't on that plane. Better yet you & your family, or your kids if any women would have anything to do with you. I don't give a flying duck if you have the death penalty in your POS country. But I developed a terrible fear when aeroplanes flew over my house. One night a 747 was night training and it was so low and so loud I thought it was going to crash into my house. I lived in Lockerbie for the first few years of my life and I know many of the firefighters who went to check out the scene. I wasn't alive when the attack happened but I know many who were. What isn't brought up often is how quickly the CIA showed up, some of the locals I have talked to say that the CIA showed up before local police, even though their nearest HQ is very far away. The town has progressed very far and continues to do so, but the bombing will never be forgotten.

I keep thinking how young she was and how she, her older sister, and parents all were tragically killed by a terrorist who later was released on "compassionate grounds." The general feeling is he didn’t do it, snd he was convicted to appease the public. I can’t say for sure but there’s a tacit acceptance he wasn’t guilty as usually someone who kills 250 people will be buried under the jail

Yeah, you could say that! I would follow my dad around wherever he went. He would asked to me to go with him to be his assistant in handing his tools, and to keep him company. He liked helping people, who couldn't afford to take their vehicles to a mechanic, whatever it may be, he would repair. I do my own maintenance on my car, hand wash it, wax, detail it inside-and-out. He also taught me how to ride motorcycles, too! He passed away when I was young, and my mother, who passed away 2 years later.

He sounded like he was a great Dad, teaching his children self reliance and you probably were his favorite even if he couldn't admit that. So sorry for his early passing and your mother's as well. I hope you're still close with your sisters, family is really everything in the end.

The victims were coming home for Christmas, some of them are students.
    I couldn’t imagine the horror.
The Scottish gvm releases him upon compassionate grounds when he don’t deserve any compassion or even have the right to utter the word.
He’s responsible for the death of 270 souls and a lifetime imprisonments were already too overly compassionate towards him,
when he should’ve sent to death as immediate.
There were no justice for the innocent souls of the victims. They died for nothing. Thier life were meaningless, as if they deserved it.
Ironically, thier murderer were celebrated under the word compassionate.
The whole things is wrong. What a world we’re living in.
I’m so sorry to all the victims family and friends.
    RIP to victims.

Another Question did they first said the flight is delayed or canceled? How they display a oncoming flight that is completly vaporised with no survivors? I mean they have to explain to a lot of families that their loved ones wont come back. Who will tell them or how they will know about that?

"At least two on board survived the initial impact..." Yes they died before being rescued but even that in itself is almost beyond comprehension. Does that mean they survived the fall? Again, almost beyond comprehension. Had they been awake, how they must've suffered for those awful final moments. They must certainly have been unconscious. RIP.

    • @somehaloguy9372
      @somehaloguy9372 Год назад +1

they were believed to have had a chance because when examined their bodies had relatively minor injuries, one only having broken legs. Suggesting that somehow during the fall something slowed the descent/cushioned the impact enough to not sustain injuries enough to cause immediate death, but died as a result of exposure to the elements/blood loss from injuries
I believe they also stated that if 2 people with identical injuries were taken into hospital following a car crash the chances of survival would be quite likely
