THANK YOU FOR SPEAKING ON THIS SUBJECT. I’ve had a reasonably successful career in this business, even to the point where I receive a Grammy award - however, I had to work just as hard as everyone else, even scrapped my way to this very day. I have two All Female Band‘s one R&B and the other is jazz in Florida. I’m enjoying connecting with my fellow female musicians in this region. I’m not a singer, I’m just a Keyboardist/Pianist. I have music directed bands. As well as theatrical shows. I’ve dealt with situations where I’m rolling in my keyboard and people ask me, “are you the singer?“. Or, I can’t play with a girl who plays better than me. We all have areas of growth and development - mine specifically is in the technology program in my keyboards. But, I’ve worked with the best in the business from Prince to Jem and Lewis and make condition. I glean from artist such as NINA Simone, Carol King, Diana Krall, Esperanza Spaulding, Keiko Matszui, Patrice Rushen, Teri Lynne Carrington Shelia E , Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Roberta Flack, Angela Winbush, and Twinkie Clark. From All Female Band such as the Sugar Mommas, Klymaxx, Fannie, , the Go-Gos, Heart, and there’s a whole slew of All Female Band’s coming out of the pan. Every single one of us had to fight scrap every step of the way. And it’s just a relief and refreshing to hear a gentleman such as yourself speak out and tell the truth. Thank you. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Thank you for this video. I wish all female musicians would just bust the stereotypes and just know the things and help carry the gear and not be all screwy about count ins and not know their key and not being able to play instruments and let some gallant dude do it for them. Anyone audience or band mate who touches me in any way inappropriate gets a right uppercut. And guys: just don’t make assumptions about us, also don’t subtly set us up to lay an egg. There was this guy who used to DELIBERATELY call out the changes so I couldn’t hear them, but I could always find them anyway and he would NEVER cabezear me for a Solo so I just started stepping at 10 volume in when I felt like it and that got me labeled as rude and aggressive. And we aren’t your “counterparts” that sets up an us and them duality. we are just musicians

Very well put. Thank you for addressing this issue. I've heard horror stories from female colleagues plus, as you say, underlying lower level inappropriate treatment.

Very well done! I have been playing music with the guys since the 60's, first as a rock musician and now I play mostly jazz. I think I have been mostly respected as a female musician, but some have never been able to accept this. I have really worked at it as far as always bettering myself as a musician. not just musically but with good work habits! I have to say that some of my worst musical experiences were with other female musicians who just could not keep their emotions in check. I think there is a level of discomfort though in some of the guys including me in some of their other informal social things where I kind of miss out.

The Problem I always had with females in the band, is that I always fell in love with them,.. and it would distract from everything else,..
except for this one time, we hired this butch female guitar player, she looked like a cross betw Andre the Giant and Phyllis Diller, needless to say my issue didn’t apply to this one, but she wound up beating me up for coming onto her girlfriend,..
so with me, having chicks in the band was nothing but problems…

"Our lovely and talented ...". Until you start referring to male musicians as lovely, your very language is condescending and paternalistic. That makes you part of the problem, not the solution.

This is an example of looking for a problem where there isn't one! I'm not sure you thought your words here through before typing them.

@ lex Luther No, YOURE part of the problem!
You couldn’t help injecting a political skew and feministic hue onto a musical & business topic.. hate when people like u start this 💩!
if you want to go virtue signal, there are plenty of other vids to do it on..stop starting a fire- to then complain about it, & please keep your bunched up panties to yourself here on this vid… Music, and the Business of it All the way here!
