    Those Burrowing Owls are super cool. Little dudes. Yep please don't mess with them while once all over Broward county. There ain't many left. True Floridians call them a Schooch.

And Evil mastermind because even seventh graders know and owl is a smart omen of doom. Well bless your heart!.

      I think schooch is a ghetto-ized perversion of 'screech' owls, which is a different species.

      @@Jd-cr5bj No, it is because they move out other animals hole it means to Schooch over or at least my mom's family whose grandmother was of creek and Seminole parents used this term. I haven't heard it used since the early 70s but it meant to Schooch on in. There weren't ghettos here till the Yankees moved here just hard working Floridians. We got schooched by Yankees.

      @@brianbritton8447 the ones I had on my property only dug their own burrows, but yes they do move into other burrows. I'm well aware of the Yankee problem. Perhaps I'm still perturbed from watching my old rural farm town that's been around since the early 1900's, turn into an ghetto, filled with inner city wannabe ghetto punks. Watched it turn from a town so unknown I used other close by towns to refer to it, into a town known for murder and violence on the news almost every week. I got schooched by inner city ghetto punks, lower than Yankees.

    In Florida public schools, one of the books they had us read is called “Hoot.” It’s about a big city kid who moves to Florida and basically falls in love with our wildlife, and saves the owls from some developers that want to bulldoze over their holes (which is why they are currently endangered).
    It’s a fantastic read for elementary to middle school aged kids and teaches them about conservation and our local wildlife

    No, the REALLY Bossy and protected birds are Sandhill Cranes, who take no guff from anyone AND cross any street without looking whenever they feel like it (although I did catch on my dashcam one time when they were actually using the crosswalk!).
    BTW, Tubi (legal and ad free) currently is showing the movie Hoot, a great family movie about saving these burrowing owls!

    I almost got a ticket for hitting one of those with my car because it flew in front of me on a highway. Thankfully there was a Deputy as well as the FWS, and the deputy had some sense. It was obvious that I didn't leave the road to hit the owl.
