You have shown the reality of their life. No romanticization, no protectionalism, but also full respect to who they are and how they live. It is an honest work, so rarely found in modern media. Also an inside look into their culture which I don't think was really done before, at least non that I have seen. But most importantly, you have become their Koko. They treated you like an equal, and so did you. Because you saw that they are you, they're people like all of us. And watching through these videos may make many of us see, that maybe these people have life figured out better than most of us do.

That's why so many people in the past few generations have suffered extreme mental health crisis. These people worry about friends, family, laughs, and survival. @Georgii Galeev I don't think IQ 45 people would be able to conduct a successful blind dark night hunt on feral Baboons with the tools at their disposal. Tools probably each of them has crafted by hand and with very basic tools, no less, some of them, like arrows, quite sophisticated. Making a good shooting bow is not an easy task to grasp mentally, let alone a small self bow that is so accurate it can take out a Baboon in complete darkness from 50 meters away. Maybe it's just a kind of intelligence our tests don't do much justice - intuitive intelligence as opposed to analytic is largely undervalued in our society. Do you know of any research on their intelligence quotient? I'd be interested in reading through some.
Throughout the footage, we see that the chief gets the most golden, best looking bits of honey. I think the moment the chief gave you his golden honey was very touching and showed that he gives you a lot of respect. These videos are fascinating, beautiful and raw - a real glimpse into our human history and nature.
Yes, but there seems to be a glib lack of understanding about why these men go through what they do to get honey. This is most likely their only source of natural sugar. Imagine for a minute - no chocolate, no candy, no cakes, no quick sugary snacks. No added sugar to your tomato sauce or to anything. NADA! But you have honey. Tribes go to extreme lengths to get honey - its deliciously sweet and calorie rich and can see you through tough times - it's prized. It's serious - the proof? You climb tall trees and get stung to hell to get it but its still worth it. But this presenter doesn't seem to realise this. He just laughs. Oh it's all crazy = your way of life is crazy = you are crazy = I am better than you. And then takes a massive chunk of honey for himself. I think he could do the research ask the right questions (not just from his Dr. Livingstone point of view) and show more respect frankly.
Except for the fact as SOON as they got some actual meat, which was the very thing he came to hunt, they ate every single piece without leaving him a crumb. Even with the smaller animals they gave him the shittiest pieces of all. Then comes the baboon and they literally eat every single part of it. From the head, eyes, down to the feet, and saved him nothing. I felt some type of way about that shit right there to be honest. Dont get me wrong I KNOW the tribe is starving, and they dont catch baboons every day, but damn smh. I could just imagine seeing 1 of the Hazda peoples faces if they were invited to a cookout/dinner in the south. They would eat so much fried chicken n everything else, they would end up going back to the tribe weighing 50 lbs heavier

I think its because many documentaries usually show these people in a way that makes them feel worlds away, he shows their friendliness and comradery, He shows that their human and just like us, that's the difference

🤣 You are seeing them at a certain point of time. This doesn't mean they have no stress or anxiety ect. It is very hard to live and try to survive. I think we romanticize the past as an ideal simpler time. They still struggled and suffered. Even with improvements to health and technology all the way up to the 1920s people were dying young and you were guaranteed to lose some children. They are human just like everyone else. I will say that it's rare now to live in a close community. I got a taste of it at my great grandma's. Everyone there was family or friends from way way back. They all moved out to CA because my great great grandma needed to go for her health. No one locked their doors. Us kids just ran from house to house. I had no idea at the time we were so interconnected. It was wonderful.

They get hurt and their family does what they can to patch them up but they may still die. We get hurt, and a doctor who has already seen way too many people that day gives you an awesome modern treatment but then our brains hurt because it costs more than what you make in a year and no one can help you with the crippling debt because everyone else is barely getting by, and also you're alone but might feel better if you buy more things. men can see better in the dark than women and women can see upwards of 90 million more colors than men. evolutionary traits both still have. You'd be surprised how well your eyes can be trained to see in the dark if you do it often.

Life was harder up until not long after WW2. Throughout history jobs had real meaning for communities, each job brought something of value to the community. Nowadays, the world is so focused on the individual that the community spirit has disappeared and it's a free for all, to make as much money as possible to live. Office jobs and cities are desensitising us from nature and our roots. It's a real shame...
This is an outstanding film amoungst a set of amazing documentaries from Fearless and Far. What makes Mike stand out against other filmmakers is that he is able to flesh out the people that he meets so we get to know them as real characters, even when the cultural gap is almost unimaginable. It is clear that he respects and shares his humanity and humility with the people he films, and they sense that and in turn are open to him. No big-budget documentary maker could hope to do that. Kudos to him for showing what humans are capable of - both for him personally and the subjects of his incredible documentaries. Mike, please don't ever let success change what you do.

I often get pretty banged up. But for me, I can’t do it any other way. I travel to understand the world and the people in it, so I can understand my place in it all. I'm from the Kenyan coast of Kilifi county, I miss this life, growing up with my big brothers and cousins, we would go hunting every Saturday and Sunday, it was awesome. We would hunt envelopes, the mongoose, guineafowls, wild rodents, squirrels, birds, etc, I'm now in my 30ths and we hardly go hunting because we all moved and left our awesome way of life of hunting behind, it's now gone no more hunting like we used to do
I find it really beautiful, it's the optimal life for a human being , they are so generous and friendly because to them , humans help each other against the world , it's always been this way for them

They don't have money to buy groceries nor a store to by them from. The plant products in the area aren't alone sufficient to sustain life.
You are very right. But it needs a lot to understand what we see in this short video. Most people only want action, entertaiment. They can't know what a huge great knowledge and skill and long training it needs to be a succsessfull hunter.

Sadly we are pretty much stuck in the modern world that was built. We couldn't even go back to a life like that if we wanted to. If 8 billion people started living a hunter gathering life we would put a massive dent on animal populations from hunting alone. Population is a touchy subject that you don't hear about often because there is no good answer to it. All I know is as the population goes up the quality of life goes down.
Sadly, Australia no longer has any wild, natural liveing indigenous peoples on traditional lands. 70000 yrs plus history on our country and none now live here as they evolved. There are still communities liveing on traditional lands, but no known wild family groups liveing as they have, in the wandering , hunter gatherer life, as they did for tens of thousands of years. Those traditional tribes in whatever lands they live, must be protected and preserved along with their beliefs, stories, ceremonies and traditional methods as naturaly as they can be.

Sometimes less is more, as they say. They're a big family, so caring of each other and have a lot of fun even if it's a tough life to live. It's just all around healthier for body, mind and soul.
I have a huge admiration and respect for these people, how theyve managed to still stick to these roots despite how much our world has changed. Watching this video is kinda like a time machine. As a linguistics nerd I find it fascinating how they express themselves, they use the animals sounds to communicate the different animals, they join their hands and put their faces in their elbows to signify the use of a bow, I think and click to signify the shot of an arrow
But some of the expressions are just human, like Mike ate the honey and went; mhmmm mhmmm, straight up got understood that it tasted nice :D and he even had to tell his buddy about it :P that was so golden for me, some reactions just transcends any language barrier.

The timeframe of hunter-gatherer to modern life is rather short from an evolutionary point of view. Very little has changed to our species' biology. This tribe is certainly an anthropologist's wet dream tho!

We worry about Depression, anxiety, Bills clothing etc. I remember wondering how my ancestors dealt with all the worries I go through now. This puts life in general into perspective! Suddenly things seem small.

In this case also You cannot do what they do and they cannot do what you do. Somehow they’ve managed to survive longer in their way than we have in ours. So again...What is intelligence?
Mmm, they are quite intelligent and I would argue so adept in their knowledge of their environment that they have a mastery of intelligence. I think the concept of intelligence can be arguably based in ones own environment. I don’t think the Hadza’s environment and daily life can be compared with a business executive in NY City and therefore neither can their IQs.

Someone must document these tribes and then let them be as much as possible. Visits should be highly regulated. These videos are of extreme importance for a simple reason: showing us how precious life is and how we must preserve these modus vivendi at all costs. The other tribes and modernization pose a real danger to these cultures, as well as the Amazon tribes, for instance. It upsets me that at this day and age there are missionaries trying to bring religion to these people, forcing or manipulating them to accept what's an interference to their culture. Just let them be. They have their gods and faiths or deities. They've been there a lot longer than us. It's not our place to judge their ways of living. Although I live in a different culture, one arrogant with technology & electronics, if I was dropped into the Hadza's environment I would quickly be dead. The Hadza are not stupid and primative. They are razor sharp with intelligence and adaptive skills. These hunter gatherers display the highest level of man existing in perfect harmony WITH their environment. Keep up the great work in chronicling them.
Europeans used to live like this. It's funny how westerners revere these culture on a purely abstract level. When our own ancestors used to live like this and YOU could easily adopt many of these traits that would fit into modern life. You do not need external forces to implement these upon you. You are an autonomous being with free will.

This was fascinating. I was in Tanzania and met them in 2005. I did a 5 hour baby version of what you did. After going into the bush maybe 2 km a kid who looked 9 hit a bird I could not see that was 50 feet up in a thick tree. It was an incredible shot and experience. You really are fearless.

@Georgii Galeev I don't think IQ 45 people would be able to conduct a successful blind dark night hunt on feral Baboons with the tools at their disposal. Tools probably each of them has crafted by hand and with very basic tools, no less, some of them, like arrows, quite sophisticated. Making a good shooting bow is not an easy task to grasp mentally, let alone a small self bow that is so accurate it can take out a Baboon in complete darkness from 50 meters away. Maybe it's just a kind of intelligence our tests don't do much justice - intuitive intelligence as opposed to analytic is largely undervalued in our society. Do you know of any research on their intelligence quotient? I'd be interested in reading through some.

I think the moment the chief gave you his golden honey was very touching and showed that he gives you a lot of respect. Yes, but there seems to be a glib lack of understanding about why these men go through what they do to get honey. This is most likely their only source of natural sugar. Imagine for a minute - no chocolate, no candy, no cakes, no quick sugary snacks. No added sugar to your tomato sauce or to anything. NADA! But you have honey. Tribes go to extreme lengths to get honey - its deliciously sweet and calorie rich and can see you through tough times - it's prized. It's serious - the proof? You climb tall trees and get stung to hell to get it but its still worth it. But this presenter doesn't seem to realise this. He just laughs. Oh it's all crazy = your way of life is crazy = you are crazy = I am better than you. And then takes a massive chunk of honey for himself. I think he could do the research ask the right questions (not just from his Dr. Livingstone point of view) and show more respect frankly.

Except for the fact as SOON as they got some actual meat, which was the very thing he came to hunt, they ate every single piece without leaving him a crumb. Even with the smaller animals they gave him the shittiest pieces of all. Then comes the baboon and they literally eat every single part of it. From the head, eyes, down to the feet, and saved him nothing. I felt some type of way about that shit right there to be honest. Dont get me wrong I KNOW the tribe is starving, and they dont catch baboons every day, but damn smh. I could just imagine seeing 1 of the Hazda peoples faces if they were invited to a cookout/dinner in the south. 🤣 You are seeing them at a certain point of time. This doesn't mean they have no stress or anxiety ect. It is very hard to live and try to survive. I think we romanticize the past as an ideal simpler time. They still struggled and suffered. Even with improvements to health and technology all the way up to the 1920s people were dying young and you were guaranteed to lose some children. They are human just like everyone else. I will say that it's rare now to live in a close community. I got a taste of it at my great grandma's. Everyone there was family or friends from way way back. They all moved out to CA because my great great grandma needed to go for her health. No one locked their doors. Us kids just ran from house to house. I had no idea at the time we were so interconnected. It was wonderful.

What makes Mike stand out against other filmmakers is that he is able to flesh out the people that he meets so we get to know them as real characters, even when the cultural gap is almost unimaginable. It is clear that he respects and shares his humanity and humility with the people he films, and they sense that and in turn are open to him. No big-budget documentary maker could hope to do that. Kudos to him for showing what humans are capable of - both for him personally and the subjects of his incredible documentaries. Mike, please don't ever let success change what you do.

I'm from the Kenyan coast of Kilifi county, I miss this life, growing up with my big brothers and cousins, we would go hunting every Saturday and Sunday, it was awesome. We would hunt envelopes, the mongoose, guineafowls, wild rodents, squirrels, birds, etc, I'm now in my 30ths and we hardly go hunting because we all moved and left our awesome way of life of hunting behind, it's now gone no more hunting like we used to do

Sadly we are pretty much stuck in the modern world that was built. We couldn't even go back to a life like that if we wanted to. If 8 billion people started living a hunter gathering life we would put a massive dent on animal populations from hunting alone. Population is a touchy subject that you don't hear about often because there is no good answer to it. All I know is as the population goes up the quality of life goes down.
Sadly, Australia no longer has any wild, natural liveing indigenous peoples on traditional lands.
70000 yrs plus history on our country and none now live here as they evolved.
There are still communities liveing on traditional lands, but no known wild family groups liveing as they have, in the wandering , hunter gatherer life, as they did for tens of thousands of years.
Those traditional tribes in whatever lands they live, must be protected and preserved along with their beliefs, stories, ceremonies and traditional methods as naturaly as they can be.

What we have witnessed is the reason why we as a human race have survived through out history. Truly fascinating to witness.
Sometimes less is more, as they say. They're a big family, so caring of each other and have a lot of fun even if it's a tough life to live. It's just all around healthier for body, mind and soul.

As a linguistics nerd I find it fascinating how they express themselves, they use the animals sounds to communicate the different animals, they join their hands and put their faces in their elbows to signify the use of a bow, I think and click to signify the shot of an arrow

I love how you remind the viewers to keep an open mind. A lot of people are very judgmental about cultures and their practices that have existed for centuries which they know nothing of. Be appreciative for what you have and appreciate what others have.

You are literally filming how we have lived almost our whole life as a species. I'm someone who is interested in evolutionary biology and this is so interesting.
The timeframe of hunter-gatherer to modern life is rather short from an evolutionary point of view. Very little has changed to our species' biology. This tribe is certainly an anthropologist's wet dream tho!

Someone must document these tribes and then let them be as much as possible. Visits should be highly regulated. These videos are of extreme importance for a simple reason: showing us how precious life is and how we must preserve these modus vivendi at all costs. The other tribes and modernization pose a real danger to these cultures, as well as the Amazon tribes, for instance. It upsets me that at this day and age there are missionaries trying to bring religion to these people, forcing or manipulating them to accept what's an interference to their culture. Just let them be. They have their gods and faiths or deities. They've been there a lot longer than us. It's not our place to judge their ways of living.
I feel deeply privileged to have seen this and it's you I must thank for. I am now even more enriched culturally and happy to see some purity we don't find in modern civilized countries.

Although I live in a different culture, one arrogant with technology & electronics, if I was dropped into the Hadza's environment I would quickly be dead. The Hadza are not stupid and primative. They are razor sharp with intelligence and adaptive skills. These hunter gatherers display the highest level of man existing in perfect harmony WITH their environment. Keep up the great work in chronicling them.
Europeans used to live like this. It's funny how westerners revere these culture on a purely abstract level. When our own ancestors used to live like this and YOU could easily adopt many of these traits that would fit into modern life. You do not need external forces to implement these upon you. You are an autonomous being with free will.

This was fascinating. I was in Tanzania and met them in 2005. I did a 5 hour baby version of what you did. After going into the bush maybe 2 km a kid who looked 9 hit a bird I could not see that was 50 feet up in a thick tree. It was an incredible shot and experience. You really are fearless.
