@@markpulling12 Well I don't think it's discussed enough actually. And it's probably what sets apart this sport tourer from the MT09 is the gearing. From the videos I've seen, yes the MT09 seems amazingly smooth especially the SP but it's still ready to pounce on the highway and that's just not something you want when you're putting a bunch of miles on.
Good review mark, like your reviews very honest bought the gt9 2 months ago first yamaha in 40 years of riding and i love it done 2000 miles don't have problems with the screen up or down, 5ft 11. Quick shifter brill ,seat i can spend 3 hours on it but i believe you have to train your bum. Take care safe riding and keep the good work up.
Hi Mark, good review! 👍🏻 I’ve had mine for just over a month now - & already clocked up 1,500 miles on her… Absolutely loving it! 😁 The only bug bears I have with it are that screen, which I’ve taken off & replaced with one from (a mini fly screen) my old MT07, I much prefer it to the tall standard one, it keeps most of the wind off my torso with clean air hitting my helmet.. Next annoying thing is the rock hard riders seat, I could only ride for 90 mins on it before it started getting really uncomfortable!! So I’ve splashed out on the much more sumptuously padded, heated comfort seat. The difference is incredible, I can literally ride all day on it now with no comfort issues at all … I’d say the engine is very smooth up until 7000 rpm, which is when the vibes start to come in at that point onwards, more so through the bars than the foot pegs though, it can be a little annoying when pushing on over long distances. But as an over-all package for the money, this bike is very had to beat! Yamaha have done a great job with all the improvements/redesign - for this all-new 2021 model bike. By the way it has a 19L fuel tank, checked in the user manual. 👍🏻
@@markpulling12 Yes it’s the Yamaha heated comfort seat, a £355 optional extra.. well worth it though, it gets really hot on level 10, just like the heated grips do! 👍🏻 It does raise you up another 30mm though I’m guessing, so that’s something to bear in mind also. I’m 5-10” & am now not flat quite flat-footed as before with this seat fitted, that’s in its lowest position too. If you put your standard seat in it’s highest position, that will give you a very close comparison..
@@markpulling12 No worries. It will certainly be my long term bike, I shall be keeping her for the next 3-4 years at least.. I only have this one bike, so it had to be the best all-rounder that I could do literally everything on. It’s such a brilliant machine, triples really are the sweet-spot when it comes to bike engines! 🙌🏻
@@inplainsight2482 what I like about this triple Is it's very tractable at low revs say in town pulls hard into the mid range which you could ride in all day then if you want a full on sports bike experience just open it up ....one of the all time great motorcycle engines imo Cheers mark
Great review Mark, thanks.Bought one of these a month ago from Crescents. I test rode this identical demo. My previous bike was an S1000XR that I loved but found it to be very cumbersome when parking , moving it in the garage etc . My new Tracer is superb, cracking bike. The only criticism was the screen , which I changed to an MRA Vario, far better. Overall, a fantastic bike.
Great review, considering as my next bike or the 900xr, test riding both in a few weeks ? Wish you guys would do back to back tests with their competitors.
Another Awesome Review Mark, as usual, Mega informative video, looks a Great Sports Tourer. Seems to be almost perfect. May have to Test Ride one, I have got a Kawasaki Z1000 SX at the moment, but this Review is enouugh to tempt me to have a Demo Ride on this Bike. Keep up the Great Reviews 👍
@@markpulling12 im like you a shorter rider at 5ft 8 29 inch leg, that's my only issue regarding the Yam GT, my sx is just right, but I really like the GT looks amazing, I wonder what it's like 2 up...???
@@davidbirchall5124 the passenger seat looks ok ...not exactly goldwing..but I remember reading a review on a passenger on the tracer and she liked it cheers mark
David. More leg room on tracer, less sporty position than sx. Front end of Tracer feels lighter and easier to Chuck around. Kawa seems old school (good! ) I loved the Tracer on my demo, got one, but feels way different to the sx. Not better or worse. Screen is garbage for me so got a really tall Puig for touring and a very very short for summer.
I couldn't wait Mark! I traded my Niken in on a 21 Tracer 9GT. Thanks again for the excellent and detailed review. Helped with my decision. Season coming to an end in Canada, but I am ready for next spring. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
i don't mind the screens/dash, but I do think it could be more useful. one great suggestion I've seen was for Yamaha to make the right screen show more useful stuff like GPS (apple/android auto maybe?), music, calls, etc. Maybe add a TPMS and have that information there? For now, the housing that holds the screens could be easily redesigned to hide the nose look, and then a more thought out system could make the two screen set up extremely useful. I applaud Yamaha for the outside-the-box approach, and I think they just need to tune this one in to be awesome. Thanks for the review!
Mark...you are truly a great vlogger. Your vids are entertaining and thorough. I have a FJR1300 but now I want to go back to the 900 Tracer GT. This colour choice and options which we get in Canada make it tempting. Tell me if I'm nuts but I'm thinking on trading in my FJR1300ES. I love the 900 yamaha triple. What is your opinion Mark?. Should I just keep the FJR1300 which is a fabulous motorbike in its own but a bit of a beast at walking speeds.👍🏻👊🏻
Hi Andy ...I owned an older fjr years ago so I know exactly what they are like ,big heavy very smooth lovely mile munchers but myself I'd take the tracer 9 now ...it's lighter to push arround, tours very well but I found it more fun/ engaging to ride because of that magic triple engine I'm considering one myself now as a main long term bike Good luck with your choice:) Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 My brother bought an older FJR (I ride a SV650). Nice bike, very smooth, but it is a big bike and feels like it. I really want a Tracer 9 GT!
For the money the Tracer is and has been a very good all round bike. This bike is very much the sum of all its parts. It does not excel in any one area, but it just gets on and does things very well. This bike is for someone who can only have 1 bike in their garage; who wants a consummate all rounder - it can be a competent commuter, weekend scratcher or tourer. It is very much more road focussed, is maybe a more sportier ride than say a Versys and is not really aimed at having any off road pretensions (without modification) unlike say a GS or Super Adventure....but then the Tracer is a lot less money than the BMW or KTM ! If you want a very good, reliable general road bike, that won’t break the bank but still be able to put a smile on your face, you can do a lot worse.
Exactly why I'm probably getting one. Test riding one tomorrow. Ive had a MT-07 for a couple of years and while it's great, I really dont enjoy going for trips with it. I really want proper storage (without ugly 3rd party mounting systems) and a upright riding position but I still want to have a bike that is fun for twisties. So on paper it's hard for me to find a better bike than the Tracer. Hoping I'll still like it after the test ride :)
@@RikkiHockey Hi, I've been really happy with it. Made especially long distance highways much nicer because of the wind protection. Of course it's also a bit louder because of that but it doesnt bother me with earplugs on. And it still feels plenty nimble to me for twisties so overall fits all my needs.
@@markpulling12 Compared with the 2021 BMW R1250 RT, it has more character... more fun factor... and for lots less cost. This is going to cut into the sports bike sales. It's got sports bike like torque and handling, but with the touring capability... sweet spot for many. Also, the way to a sports tourer's heart is through their butt more than their wallet. Yamaha has finally figured this out.
@@markpulling12 It's like Honda is completely out to lunch on this end of the market. They seem to be trying to be going after the cruiser market with the 2021 Rebel 1100, as far as a torquey tourer goes. But it just doesn't have the suspension travel due to the super low seat. It's like they want more of the cruiser market but they designed the handlebars too far away for short people. Plus, they didn't offer any hard case side bags as standard or as options. Also, the execution did not impress me overall. Honda always does this... they tend to throw a concept together without really thinking it out. Not so with Yamaha's Tracer 9 GT. That was really well thought out and executed. I have owned two Hondas before this and I doubt I will go back unless they really change up their approach. Now the Africa Twin is another matter. But that is a different market completely than the sport touring market. Honda really doesn't have an offering here. They should have taken the 1100 and designed that into a light weight sport tourer. Gordon
Mark, I meant to ask you about your 30" inseam. It's that measured or is that your pants inseam? Measured, I'm 30" from floor to crotch in my bear feet. But in a pant size I take a 29" inseam, otherwise the pants drag off my heels. Some say this bike looks bigger in the videos than in person. Thanks, Gordon

Good review, great value bike that ticks all the boxes. I reckon a shaft drive would top off an excellent all-round quality bike but will not hold my breath.
Thanks Mark. Hoping to test ride one next week, could be a bit of a formality 😀. Really like the way you show the seating position and also other things like putting the bike up on the stand and the under seat storage. Finally, showing the rev’s at cruising speeds is great.
@@markpulling12 Thats a strong indication of the tracer's quality. I'm trying to decide between the Tracer 9GT and Versys 1000S. I own a 2015 XSR900 but haven't been able to test ride the Tracer or the Versys. I want the bike for commuting in summer (90% of use) and long muti-day tours 1-up. Got mine this week and easing it in gently. I am same height as you and thought it might be problem but so far its fine. You can get a lowering kit fitted for around £80 which will reduce height a little more if it is an issue. I have a feeling the QS on mine is not working or doesn't seem to be even though it is turned on in the settings. You can turn it off in the settings also. Hi Dan ... the quick shifter on these works very well ...you don't use the clutch much at all other then moving off and slowing down to a stop Cheers mark
I'm giving this bike some serious thought at the moment, Mark. You tested the base model 9 a few weeks ago. Do you think the adaptive suspension on the GT is worth the extra money, or is the standard set up good enough? Thanks.

Glad to have you reviewing bigger bikes again. Excellent thorough review. This Tracer 9 GT engine sounds better than Triumph's triples, more characterful. As you say it is definitely a contender and a very strong one. Very good spec for the price as well. Not a great fan of the fronts of Yamahas of late but this Tracer looks ok. Maybe I've just become accustomed to the Yamaha transformer look. You have some great riding roads in your area. Many thanks.

Great review Mark. Nice bike to, but I like the Tracer 900 dashboard than the dashboard on this model. To me it absolutely horrible. If you e.g. look at the dashboard of a Triumph Tiger 900, that is how it should be.

Since you have tested both, which do you prefer? Tracer 9 GT or Kawasaki 1000SX in GT trim? BTW, I'd mount my phone on the handle bar to cover up the Nose.
Hypothetical question, I know, but, all other things being equal, which would you prefer on what had to be your only hypothetical motorcycle, the quick shifter from the Tracer 9 or the DCT from the NT1100? I hope to test ride both in the spring, and having tech that makes gearing easier puts them both on the list 👌
Hi Dennis the quick shifter Is more fun when you are really opening the tracer 9 up ....it sounds glorious.. the dct is amazing for town or touring Kind of depends on what type of riding you think you'll be doing I think all things considered the tracer 9 gt is one of the best all round bikes ever created Best wishes mark
Haven't ridden either, but the Multi 950 has a gigantic wheelbase, so it's probably far less agile, and the Tiger felt really small and lihht when I sat on it, but the engine is far less powerful than the Tracer's. In the end you're comparing a gigantic and a nimble Adventure to an agile Sportstourer.
Sorry, I needed the translator. My current mount is a Honda CBF1000F and the time has come to part with it. After much research in the group of "Turismo" motorcycles, I have decided that this is a very good option with a good quality/price/equipment ratio. It is true that in connectivity it has a lack, but that is not a big problem. There are options that can remedy that issue. When I tried it in all modes, I discovered that you can either carry your grandmother's company or carry a she-wolf in sheep's clothing between your legs. It can be very aggressive if you seek the limits. I am convinced that she is a good road warrior and she will be my next "girlfriend" hehehe.!! She will behave well on roads like in Puerto de Velefique (Almería). Very good video and good luck so you can enjoy it. By the way, what model of gloves does she use and how do they work? ; )
The cases on the red bike are not colour matched in Canada. That liquid metal is my favourite. Cornering lights should have light detector so they don't light up in the day time.
Got one recently, so far really nice. You might want to add that the windshield you tested is not the stock one but the Touring shield that you can order separately.
Hi rex ....all things considered the tracer 9 GT is the better bike from the reviews I've seen. The tiger is more expensive I believe too .. .try and demo both as they are both great bikes cheers mark

Was a bit worried it would be a tall bike considering I'm 5'7, but it's very comfortable for me and also quite light compared to its counterparts. The only thing I dislike abt this bike is the fact the right hand TFT screen display isn't integrated with mobile connectivity via Bluetooth/wireless. It's quite annoying for me actually and feels like Yamaha refusing to add more features, afterall most 2021 Kawasaki and Honda bikes are all adding these by default. I wish Yamaha would imitate the TFT screen based on the features of BMW GS TFT screens, which is actually awesome. Another thing I love, but my friends who ride too, hate about it is how the TFT screen display and handlebars looks like a man with dark shades 👓, a nose 👃, and moustache (lol). I think it's hilarious to me though.

I’d say the engine is very smooth up until 7000 rpm, which is when the vibes start to come in at that point onwards, more so through the bars than the foot pegs though, it can be a little annoying when pushing on over long distances.
But as an over-all package for the money, this bike is very had to beat!
Yamaha have done a great job with all the improvements/redesign - for this all-new 2021 model bike.
By the way it has a 19L fuel tank, checked in the user manual. 👍🏻
Thanks was it the Yamaha comfort seat ? As I'm very interested in this bike for myself :)
@@markpulling12 Yes it’s the Yamaha heated comfort seat, a £355 optional extra.. well worth it though, it gets really hot on level 10, just like the heated grips do! 👍🏻
It does raise you up another 30mm though I’m guessing, so that’s something to bear in mind also.
I’m 5-10” & am now not flat quite flat-footed as before with this seat fitted, that’s in its lowest position too.
If you put your standard seat in it’s highest position, that will give you a very close comparison..

Great review Mark, thanks.Bought one of these a month ago from Crescents. I test rode this identical demo. My previous bike was an S1000XR that I loved but found it to be very cumbersome when parking , moving it in the garage etc .

The best solution regarding screens is not to have one. Hideous dash. Excellent review.
I like your logic ! :)
All the best mark
i don't mind the screens/dash, but I do think it could be more useful. one great suggestion I've seen was for Yamaha to make the right screen show more useful stuff like GPS (apple/android auto maybe?), music, calls, etc.
Great thanks for the feedback :)

@@markpulling12 Awesome! Enjoy it.
Thanks great summary !

@@gorrdd thanks Gordon ....yes this has a huge fun factor and tours very well :)
Gordon
Mark,
I meant to ask you about your 30" inseam. It's that measured or is that your pants inseam?
Measured, I'm 30" from floor to crotch in my bear feet. But in a pant size I take a 29" inseam, otherwise the pants drag off my heels.
Some say this bike looks bigger in the videos than in person.

Thank you for the review. All that I need to know now is how does it compare to the Multistrada 950S and the Tiger 900GT pro?
Not ridden those but hopefully someone can answer :)

@@Loiczzr Sure, I guess that's a possibility if you don't mind putting right what the manufacturer should have got right in the first place.
You shouldn't have to do that with a new bike. And if you do flash it then your warranty's probably up the spout too.
@@millosman106 most is due with Euro 5.
@@millosman106 no, the warranty should not be void.
My next bike. I'd like a test ride in a town. Without panniers of course.
Get one they are awesome
I did 😀 !!
Love your review, Mark.
Thanks for the comment

Great review! Would love to see the FJR 1300 to see if its still relevant with all these sports tourers around.
thanks yes i had an older fjr years ago ...loved it ,,,,but heavy in this company now regards mark
FJR is a great bike, the Tracer is just soo much lighter nimble and fun. You really notice it at end of day if you’ve been on the twistys. The FJR just feels so heavy now. Still a great bike !
@@douglasalexander4348 well said Douglas thanks mark
If you had to pick between the Tracer GT or Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, which one for every day use, long trips, twisty stuff?
@@edwingonzalez8840 I would have said the ninja a year ago but now I'd say tracer 9 all the way ....I prefer it's upright riding position and the engine is amazing

Great review,very detailed. Thanks
Ok many thanks ☺️
Got this bike 3 months ago as a gift from my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I've been riding this bike ever since, and dumped my MT07.
Thanks victor ,nice present 💝,I have the same bike aswell...best bike I've ever owned, very happy 😊
Test rode one, screen gave me a headache after 20 mins and at 5'6, just too tall for me. However if lowered and a proper aftermarket screen solution was available, then may be the best value for money bike without question
Thanks for the comment David :)
@HahrtDood mines 29 also
So Mark, which do you prefer Tracer9 or Tracer GT
Hi Bobby ...I'd pay the extra and go with the gt ...the panniers ..nice factory fit heated grips ,qshift and electronic suspension is what I'd want :)
I'm already working out my finances :) !!!

Hi Mark, can review Africa Twin DCT 2021.
What would you say Mark: Tracer 9GT or MT09 SP?
Well considering I now own a tracer 9 GT I'd definitely recommend it .! ..more versatile than the Mt 09 ...better for touring passengers and luggage but still same great performance ;)
@@markpulling12 I was going to order today MT09 SP, but before I sign the papers I asked the dealer for a quick demo ride the new Tracer 9GT, because they didn't have any MT09, and that was my probably biggest mistake, because when I came back from a test ride I couldn't believe how good is a tracer. It's so comfy to ride, has a lot of handy features and gadgets. Quick shifter It's so smooth, and the whole bike is so well balanced. I was so confused about what I should do to the point that I walked away with anything. I didn't sign the papers and I didn't order the MT09.
I like the look of the naked bikes and I like the new MT09 style, so the heart tells me to go for the MT09, but my mind tells me that the Tracer 9GT will be more practical bike and probably more comfortable. Don't really know what to do now???
I was also considering buying a new Suzuki GSX-S 1000 or Honda CB1000R.
@@darekz9777 I guess it depends on what type of riding you do if it's just fun short trips then a naked bike is fine ...but me I take passengers and do touring soo the tracer was an easy decision :). Good luck cheers mark
So it’s not snatchy or jumpy or too sudden on the throttle?
No perfect on mode 2 even softer on. 3 and 4
mark am 6ft..would this suit me and is the stock seat comfy
Hi ant ...yes it's a physically big bike and tall ...it would fit you perfectly...the stock seat is 6/10 comfortable ok for 2/3 hours then a break...there are comfort seat options available but seem to work only for some people
Best wishes mark
