It's now water down the drain, and I feel so sorry for Wayde. Regardless of which kind of rugby code he played(it was touch rugby), it was very high risk doing it, and the injury he sustained proved that he would struggle to regain the same heights. In my humble opinion, it wasn't a wise thing to play "touchies" in his situation as a star athlete. It was a career ending incident.😢

Ya it was a charity touch rugby game in Cape Town. A friend of mine watching was horrified to seem appear on the field. But a common injury in rugby players most go on to resume form. Let’s hope for the best for Wade.

I never heard that story beforem but man this guy was new and I told my brother that someone is so young just broke the world record, look what he will doe in the next olympics and when it came I was surprised he was not even in the finals. Now I know the story, I wish he could do his best in the coming years

It’s like the second most popular sport in South Africa and his cousin Cheslin Kolbe is a rugby player himself. Thhe guy just wanted to play a match for charity, I know Rugby is tough but hell he probably played Rugby many times prior to that injury

And why did South Africa only compete in 8/10 rwc? The team was good enough for 91 and 87 but the country wasn't good enough.

Not saying that that era of springboks was awful but the abs had so much going against them. They could train on the boat when the travelled over, a believe the travel around South Africa was tough on them. Apparently south africa were good hosts and I think some of that may have negatively impacted them too but like this was so long ago. Rugby was so different comparissons to modern day is silly.
I just think south african fans can't claim the won more world cup in less number of comps as justification for being a "better" side whatever that means (like best team of all time type discussions). Apartheid is the reason the weren't at the first two rwc. So South African wasn't good enough to be a some world cups.

After 43.03 he was a very special person capable of making large sums of money. He should have made his specialty his priority every minute of every day. Instead he failed to improve and has lost his moment. Same thing happened to me in a different way.

Even with improve shoes and tracks and athlete seemingly running faster they are still far behind these world records. Look for the next generation of athletes who will get new technology in shoes and tracks, they will be the one who will break these world records
Considering his 300m WR and 43.98 in the world champs where he literally slowed down to a walk the following year he definitely wasn’t a fluke

Playing rubgy when you're a 400m track athlete is utterly ridiculous, literally asking for an injury. Everyone I know who's played rugby has broken something but they weren't world-class runners. Hopefully he recovers form but it ain't looking good.

His knees are accustomed to harsh lateral movements. His legs are his career. Gotta be smart and cautious. He can play rugby AFTER he's finished running.
