RIP Marianne and Bowie
Agreed.
🥺🥺🥺
this has been sitting in a vault for years and it's finally aged to bizarre perfection.
Bizarre indeed, and at the height of British Glam Rock!
lmao
Rest in peace, David Bowie and Marianne Faithfull. 🕊️
Not forgetting Mick Ronson whose in the background
@ , thanks for the reminder. Rest in peace, Mick R! 🕊️ Without you, there’d be no spiders from Mars!🕷️
That was the most bizarrely great thing I've ever seen
Truly a priceless gem Shines, glistens just magical! Bizarre, profane and historic. Just mesmerizing. I had no idea this existed and Bowie was my #1 Starman.
Find the Tiny Tim and Eleanor Barooshian version.
I KNOW!!
I wonder what the Wolfman made of that performance? It's so totally out of whack it's brilliant. Bowie with feathers and high heels, Marianne dressed like a nun and I don't really know where the backup singers came from but they fit in perfectly. May I remind everyone of the quality of this recording/video, it's 50 years ago.
The quality is outstanding. I've been rewatching the same old fuzzy uploads for years. Such a treat.
I just had to see this again today. I'm sorry to hear of Marianne's death. She was the ultimate survivor. When this was first aired on the Midnight Special in 1973, I was FLOORED!!!!!! I was getting more into Bowie during this time, but THIS show and then THIS performance made me LOVE him. It was a revelation for me, and I was not quite the same afterwards. Kudos to Bowie, for being friendly to Marianne and helping her out during this period in her life. Nothing could top this performance. Marianne was a December Capricorn and Bowie was a January Capricorn. I'm a January Capricorn. LOVED THEM both. RIP Marianne and Bowie. Peace
I'm a January Capricorn and also always loved them. RIP Marianne and Bowie.
I was glued to the tv when this aired.
@@ceemartin5624 Marianne was an atypical Cap. Moon in Pisces. I realized I had done a video on her chart.
She was BEAUTIFUL
RIP Marianne & David. More duets in heaven.
Proof that Marianne could look bloody marvellous in anything.
Seriously 😁 this is surreal 👍💗
Absolutely marvelous the way they compliment each others strangeness
We needed more Faithfull Bowie collaborations.
I vividly recall this one "flooring" me when I watched the original airing. One of the more bizarre performances I'd ever seen. Marianne was basically living on the streets, strung-out and destitute after Jagger dumped her. Amazing that Bowie managed to get this performance from her at all. Since she wasn't taking care of her health, her voice definitely had begun to suffer at this point. Even though her voice suffered more damage in the years after this performance, she kicked the drugs, made the best of things, and fashioned a considerable career as a solo artist and actress that still continues.
I use to try to look like Marianne and sadly behaved like her too. Though all good now, of course.
Yeah, I wonder how much that whole "living on the streets" thing was overegged for shock value aka press interest. She doesn't exactly look like a homeless person here.
I have never seen this and I'm a huge Bowie fan. 😀😀
Same here fan of 50 years. Kind of wish I hadn't, she's awful .....
Well I have and I'm not.
I remembered when this aired. It was one of the greatest highlights in my life. I love Bowie so much!
I only saw it as a rerun but it's one of the best things ever. As far as all the people who complain about the vocals or the costuming, I say, look in a mirror. It's rock and roll people. It ain't supposed to be perfect, it's only meant to entertain.
Get a new life.
I did. I was 13yrs old then.
@@91dodgespiritrtyou mean the kind of life you have trolling comment sections .
MINE TOO! I was on the fence about a few things,
Fantastic take on a sweet love song. I love these two singing together and now they are together in Rock and Roll Heaven. They are so young in this video and gorgeous. Their outfits are so creative. Marianne's headpiece is a combination ancient Egyptian headpiece and something like the crowns the royal female Russians wore circa the 1800s until the end of the Romanovs. Bowie's outfit is simply awesome.
So mad and so beautiful.
I just found this and I'm so glad. What a time it was, what an era. Sure miss it all.
RIP, Marianne Faithfull and David Bowie. Both of you were loved by me.
RIP Marianne Faithful and David Bowie
She asked me to stay, and I stole her room
She asked for my love, and I gave her a dangerous mind
Now she's stupid in the street, and she can't socialize
Well, I love the little girl, and I'll love her 'til the day she dies ......
Hmmm those lyrics now hit a little different , he could def be writing about Faithful there.
I stayed up late on a long-ago Friday night to watch this. Now both are gone, but it still holds up. RIP Marianne.
That's just made me weep. Fly high Marianne Faithfull. 💐
Sacred and profane. Beautiful
Profane in what way?
Good cover of Sonny & Cher.
R.I.P. Marianne Faithfull and David Bowie.🌈🌈🕯🕯
I have been watching bootleg videos of this and other Bowies videos from this particular show for years and most with a lot of quality flaws or missing spots but was happy to see them and could live with them! ...But finally, it's so great to start seeing very high-quality original TMS videos here on "The Midnight Special" channel from Bowie's 1980 Floor Show that aired back in 1973 and I remember it like it was yesterday! ...I sure hope eventually the whole show will be shown in its entirety! ...As there was nothing else ever like it ever since as it was almost the end of his Ziggy-Aladdin persona! ...Absolutely Bowie fantastic!
Thank you Midnight Special for releasing it and the many other shows and artist you have been sharing as I have been praying for many, many, many years for this musical history day to come from you!
You are very welcome, Burt
@@themidnightspecialtvshow If this reply is from the Mr. Burt Sugarman, it's an honor for me to receive a comment from you! ...I NEVER missed the Midnight Special back in its original airing dates! ...and Thank You very much again for bringing out these classics and full episodes to be viewed again by myself and others who remembers the show and also all of the younger generation that has never seen them as there in for a musical treat!
🌎Up Above the Earth Now - Singing up in heaven together, our Angels! Thank you both for blessing us with your talent! 💕
Good night Marianne. Sweet dreams. ❤
Bowie in most magnificent moment of that era.
what a great video!! Thanks for sharing this classic treasure!❤
A great clip. Two amazing icons singing together beautiful voices ❤ Both Marianne and David were super intelligent and always pushing the envelope ❤️
Superbly adaptable voice David Bowie had to almost any song. Brilliant backing too. So surreal 😊
Rest In Peace
Beautiful Miss Marianne Faithful
and David too.
Even after 50 years, this is still odd and beautiful! Strange edit at the end, though. I wonder how it really went.......
I think that's real and I think that shows how little they rehearsed that.
Evidently she wore nothing under that robe, and the back was completely open, giving a "show" for those behind her. Perhaps the reason for the edit.
@@88fungo Makes sense!! (LOVE to see that though...!!)
@@88fungothere are 3 different versions of this on RUclips. One is longer, including the tuning and preparations. But I can't giarantew you will see the back of that robe. 😅
Loved Marianne she was the same age has me she was Brilliant RIP ❤
Loved Marianne. She was the same age as me; she was Brilliant.
This is surreal
Wow, what a treat. Nice find!
We had some of the best Duets in history perform
RIP beautiful lady
Midnight Special 🎉🎉, kudos for putting them on to perform 🎉🎉. This is vintage Bowie and Faithful 🎉🎉
Amazing!
Rest in Peace and Music, Marianne and David. Love to you both.
I listened to Broken English and of course had to come rewatch the greatest performance of all time 😂
1 million kinds of AWESOME!
They are now entertaining heaven together RIP you beautiful people
RIP both💔
My life is complete.
Everybody at the Grammys were trying to be cutting edge but it only works for people like this
Never saw this one ! What a treat loved them both ! I grew in 70s so I got the best of all worlds
There wasent anybody like them ❤ it’s just absolutly brilliant
On the bootleg versions of this we get to see Marianne's right leg up to her waist for a couple of seconds at the start. Looks like she had nothing on underneath that habit. Recorded at London's Marquee. Great to see a good quality version of this performance.
If I'm remembering correctly, drummer Aynsley Dunbar said Marianne was indeed nude under her backwards coat here, and as he was sitting behind her, had a pretty great view!
Wonderfull moment....
RIP Marianne. Mes deux idoles icônes du rock british réunis pour l'éternité ❤️❤️
Just a stunning bit of music history. So enjoyable to listen too.
freaking fabulous!
David Bowie is my favourite artist of all time, Marianne's great, RIP both.of.them. His no eyebrow look wasn't my favourite, I have to say!
Seeing Ziggy era Bowie on a 70s American variety show doing a duet with Marianne is so wild. It was cool seeing Mick Ronson in the background, but I don't believe he actually played that solo, the band sounded like a backing track to me
The video as aired was spliced together from various takes and angles, so once it was edited together, things didn't always match up.
That. Was. Awful. 😵
What a classic. Nice to see a nice, clean, good copy here.
I remember this with Marianne Faithfull!
Thank you.
This is simply beautiful and incredible and it makes me happy
Amazing 💔
RIP Marianne...meet Bowie
Amazing, love it.
Goddamnit I miss him.
Too much fun!
RIP to both
THANK YOU, Mr. Sugarman!!
Staggeringly great - Hero's!
Rest i leave to both..match made in Heaven
Faithful to the last
Deeply sad
Bless you
So long Marianne
🎉 ❤
Bowie all transgender fabulous and Marianne Faithfull an Orthodox nun/priest. They make Sonny and Cher look like Ozzie and Harriet. Lovin' it.
excellent duo merci a eux 👍👍❤❤
I am old enough to have watched this program the night it aired, but I had yet become hip enough to understand the art.
I had forgotten how Marianne's voice changed from her early works. She sounds almost like Marlene Dietrich without the German accent.
RIP, beautiful angel of the 60s.
Sou apaixonada por essa performance de Bowie e Marianne......
Oh man, that’s what I’m talking about!
Icons❤
great..
How can you be this cool?
RIP Marianne Faithful
Ils se sont retrouvés tout là-haut, pour continuer à chanter ✨🕊️💫
Goodbye Marianne. The definition of the 1960s.
Best gig ever ❤😂❤😂
Wow!😎
Just been announced on BBC News that Marianne has just passed away
RIP Ms Faithful
Marianne Faithfull, eine echte Legende, aber mit diesem Herrn konnte ich noch nie etwas "anfangen"....
That’s the way he would have wanted it
Marianne Faithfull sings like Madeline Kahn.
She's so tired
It's twoo, it's twoo!
She does!
Or, more accurately, Madeline saw this and sang like Marianne Faithfull. Who sang like Marlene Dietrich, a heroine to both.
@@TonyGPizza this is from November 1973 and Blazing Saddles came out in February 1974. Brooks was likely done filming and it was in post-production by the time Marianne and Bowie sang this duet. Was Marianne channeling Marlene? Perhaps. Madeline Kahn absolutely was, the whole character of Lili Von Shtupp was a parody of Marlene.
just when i thought i've seen everything.
Wow. The Thin White Duke at 26-years-old. Wow!
Simply great!!!
Glad you like it!
Bravo!
Had the honor of seeing Davids Glass Spider Tour at Mile High in Denver, 1987…Peter Frampton, Duran Duran….🎉
Saw him with Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson opening. It was the best show of my life.
Now they are both gone. RIP beautiful bohemian.❤ Fuck.
I know. This is so sad.
Marianne Faithfull and Bowie ❤️👑
I can only imagine what they were saying among themselves when initially planning this act which they performed worldwide. She definitely adopted a Marlene Dietrich style while his was akin to a character in "Fellini's Circus."
Wow
If you're gonna cover Sonny & Cher then this is the way to do it.
No one can top this cover... no one.
Mick Ronson in the background - the undervalued, underpaid and genius behind Bowie.
got to love this, current american republicans will love it goodbye marian
Fun fact from the "Moonage Daydream" Mick Rock photography book about the Ziggy era: Marianne Faithfull's costume doesn't have a back-- her "wonderful arse" (David's words) was just hanging out during this performance. The TV people didn't want to air that, so there's no shots of that provided here, haha.
