IT IS MY DREAM TO PLAY THE DRUMS but I'm not allowed by my parents. they say they are too loud, we don't have the room, lessons and repairs are too much money and I don't like you playing rock music. I want to buy a pair of drumsticks, learn how to play during quarantine and play something to show them I can do it and it IS something I love. THANK YOU SIR I REALLY REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS I WOULD HAVE NO WAY TO PLAY AND PURSUE MY DREAM WITHOUT YOU, YOU ARE A SAINT BLESS YOUR SOUL. btw I am is vocalist and a heavy rock and metal band so idk why my parents don't accept me playing it, they see how happy it makes me EDIT: We did it boiiissss, they said yes!!!!!!! :D

Hello Lily. I have some mini lessons posted on my channel that you can watch and learn from for free. My channel is for beginner and intermediate drummers. Would love to be of service to you.
Fantastic! I have been wanting to learn the drums for years and years now that I am 60 years old it is on my bucket list and you’re officially my teacher!
BRO, I JUST WANT TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND KNOWLEDGE. NO WORDS JUST AMAZE OF HOW WELL AND SIMPLE YOU MAKE IT SEEM, MAN WHEN I WAS PLAYING MICHAEL JACKSON WITH YOU ON THE VIDEO I WAS LIKE MAN THIS IS GREAT. I LOVE IT. I THOUGHT, I DON'T THINK I COULD THIS BUT AND THAN YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE THERE IS TALENT IN ME SOMEWHERE DEEP BUT THERE IS LOL...THANKS MAN
Hey, thanks for the comments and I'm glad the lessons are helpful....I know you're just starting, but I'm gonna try to get more lessons up soon; whenever I get comments it inspires me....after you learn the basic rock beat and some variations, try playing along with some songs that are not too fast while counting out loud. Then add some variations on the bass drum. Just thought I'd offer a little way to expand on the lessons and make playing more fun.... enjoy!
This brings me back... when I was a kid and taking lessons, this is exactly how I assembled my "kit." Years later, I'm getting back into it and this couldn't have come at a better time.
Rachel Symanzik God bless XD I wish my church let me be on the worship team. they don't like me because I want to play actual drums not the freaking bongo 😋😋
Dan, I appreciate this video series a lot. I am a complete beginner without a kit, and I have been watching instructional videos. Basically all the other instructors jump into playing a groove but never explain basic concepts like grip. In searching for instruction on grip, specifically, I found your series. Your concept and instruction are helpful to me as I decide whether I want to continue with learning to play. Nothing would be more disappointing for a novice than to spend several hundred dollars on equipment only to find out that he or she doesn't want to continue playing. I don't anticipate giving up the drums, but it is helpful to be able to start learning with a minimal financial outlay. Thank you for your great series.
i play piano and guitar. I want to add drums, violin and harmonica to me repertoire....man i love music. If it werent for music i wouldnt be able to deal with this illness called depression. Thank you for taking the time out of your life to post this.
A friend of mine just suggested starting with sticks control before taking the next step and buy a whole drum set. This video was very convincing. Thank you very much for doing this, sir. Subscribed!
I actually saw this a couple months ago and this inspires me, I bought my very first drum sticks today and I'm so very happy and watched this again right away🤗, A VERY BIG THANK YOU SIR
June 2020...theres a pandemic and the world is falling apart. But Im making the most of it and learning some drums without drums! Thanks for posting and being an awesome teacher
This pretty cool, I am looking to start playing the drums at my Church, I use to take lessons when I was in elem. school. I am 53 so that tells you how log ago that was. LOL.. I am looking forward to these lessons... God Bless
You are an excellent teacher. I could learn to play drums for the very first time by following your step by step instructions in all the 12 videos. The lessons were easy to follow. Thanks a lot ! God bless you Sir ! I am eagerly waiting for more videos from you.
Thank you very much for posting these videos! I was having a super crummy day and stumbled on a video of a young Taiwanese girl playing the drums. I was thinking I wished I could play the drums to get rid of stress (and because I've always wanted to learn - Fifty is not too old to learn). A quick search put your videos first. Your lessons are great - clear, concise, concrete with simple achievable goals each lesson. And it's perfect that you show a set-up without drums; I live in an apartment bldg. I've watched the first 3 lessons and subscribed to your channel. Thanks to you, I can learn the drums (and the counting out loud while drumming keeps you focused and relieves stress!) Now I just have to get real drumsticks. (The stainless steel straws work for the moment!) I'm enjoying practicing and look forward to more lessons. Again, thanks very much!
Hey man I watched 3 minutes and subscribed, you've snared me with these lessons.I love how you cover in detail the basics and specifics in way that;s easy to understand.Great job thx for uploading it's just what I needed.I strongly recommend people subscribe.
Thanks! I spent a while teaching (before posting these lessons) and i'm glad to get back into it. A lot of drum lesson videos on youtube don't cover the absolute basics, so that's primarily my goal here. Thanks for watching and please stay tuned for some more vids (that will also be better produced...!).
I found this video accidently and now I am a huge fan of this guy!! Dude you are already a celebrity!! Keep up the good work and help me become one of the best drummers out there !! Hehe

These are really good :) I'm loving this series. I've been wanting to play drums for a while but there are no teachers where I live and other online stuff are very complicated. Thank you for making this easy, and I'm taking your advice and working hard at this so my mom will allow me to get an actual drum kit. :) All the best!
Uta Kaneki That's exactly the idea...let me know if you impress your mom so much with your dedication/drumming skills that she goes for it and gets you a kit. But remember, these lessons still work great on an actual drum set, too! Thanks for the comment!
It's amazing that I found this video to be one of the first videos. I thought I'd need a drum set to learn to drum, but I'm glad someone helps me learn the true basics. :)
I don't know if you still read comments, but thank you so much! I have wanted to start learning drums for almost 3 years now but I had some exams and then this whole pandemic happened. I had lost interest in learning drums but I stumbled across your channel. I'm super excited to continue your course and even more excited to play on a real set when this situation blows over.
So, is it possible to play drums without a drum set? hehehe gotta love this video. A friend of mine told me that it's impossible to learn drums without a drum set.

Very true. I practiced beats on books, aluminum foil, the washer, and the dryer...anything I could find that gave me cool sounds...and "beatboxed"/vocalized rhythms that I found interesting. It eventually convinced my parents that I had rhythmic aptitude and they bought me a drum set. That was about 26 years ago and I've been playing ever since.
My daughter's learn how to play drums with chopsticks that she got her Junior drum kit and now she has play for 2-3 years and with out drum lessons also played since she was 9 years old and really good she plays 80s and 90s music
Thank you!! I'm interested in playing but didn't know where to start, and don't want to invest yet in lessons or gear until I see if it's something I would really commit to in the future. Excited to order sticks and try your lessons :)

Thank you so much for this video! I only own a pair drum sticks and I really want to learn how to play the drum properly, even if my left hand hates me a bit. I'll be looking for the other lessons! Cheers from Colombia!
Alexander Gomez Thanks for the comment...hey, if you're finding I'm posting videos a little to infrequently (which I am), and want to improve your left hand, justice practice everything I teach with your left hand leading - in other words, put your left on the high hat and drop the right to the snare (but sit the same way and still play the bass drum with your right foot). You have to go real slowly at first, but that's the ticket to really becoming ambidextrous on the kit and improving your left hand.

I want to learn drums, but i'm almost 18. Is that too late to start? should i just buy one and practice out of yt videoes`? i probably won't get one anyway because it's so loud my parents will flip out. Srry bad english
Its never too late to start drumming. I'm learning too and I'm almost 16. I would ask them first and see what they say. I know this is kinda old lol my bad
I'm 17 hopefully I can learn sooner before I turn 20. As of now I don't have an actual drum set so that sucks. Just practice rhythm, beats and all that stuff.
Hey! pretty cool stuff. Great easy to understand presentation. Did I understand you to say you don't recommend using a tabletop drum pad? I've always wanted to play drums (parents said no) so I rigged up pretty much what you have there using a phone book for snare and paint can for hi-hat. That was YEARS ago. Now with electronics, I would like to hear the actual sounds. I also think the pads would increase my accuracy. What is your opinion about that? Thanks. PS: I'm waiting to see you make that law book whisper. lol
Yes, table-top drum pads would work fine. But to get the feel of playing on a kit, you need surfaces at different heights (you can always put the pads on something else I suppose). And yes, eventually everyone should move up to an electronic or acoustic kit. While these lessons are still well-suited for those who have a set, the idea is to show people that they can practice coordination and rhythms on any surface, and get them sounded pretty decent once they get to a kit. As you can see, by the second lesson (or third?) you're playing a pretty cool beat. And, you can play that beat with confidence because you know what rhythms you're playing. Anyhow, thanks for the comment and lemme know how the pads work out.
IT IS MY DREAM TO PLAY THE DRUMS but I'm not allowed by my parents. they say they are too loud, we don't have the room, lessons and repairs are too much money and I don't like you playing rock music. Thank you for this video i appreciate it so much
i use a keyboard or a pedal bin as the basedrum
great explanations. thanks a lot
There are electronic drums bro
Bro pls continue putting videos
Hey! pretty cool stuff.
Anyhow, thanks for the comment and lemme know how the pads work out.
i've found my channel holy sh
