He goes where the freebies are at though , fact - call it surviving to be a guitarist , nope he's too good and too well known , check out all the sponsorships, demonstrations, he loves everything , he tried a small gibson he was saying man that's great I would love this as 1 example , he wants for free all the time. Why not you say ? Because we all have to earn a living ,being paid for a promo video then underhand saying how much he loves it ......he loves every thing he's ever touched . Cmon, he's a top player but still
I could watch this brother all day - and learn and learn. The best attitude and disposition ever! The man is a great player AND a great educator. The sweetest monster player I've ever seen! Thanks so much Johnny, I'll come back again and again.
I love guys like you and Red who share your knowledge with people with out asking for money. Not that your lessons wouldn't be worth it because they certainly would be. You just want to share the gift and I want to acknowledge you for that. Thank you so much!
I've been playing for 30 years and have learned more from you in the past few videos that I have from any other video or lesson. I learn something from everyone I play with and I've seen these techniques many times, but you just have an excellent way of teaching. Thank you for doing what you do.
I've been playing for twenty five years and have a reputation as a good guitar player. I just discovered johnny hiland and have learned a ton of new stuff people have noticed! Thanks johnny your the best dude!
That's what I love so much about guitar. I've been playing 15 years but theres always something to learn and it keeps it fresh! This lick sounds great to.
Johnny is the reason I got myself a truefire subscription and I took it one step further and even did a private virtual lesson with him! Hope to do more and improve my skill in his wheelhouse
I am so happy I discovered Johnny not a long time ago and it makes me sad I didn't hear earlier of him. What a beast of a guitar player and such a nice person! Thanks Johnny!
Ok I’ve been playing for 50 years. You’ve shown me how much fun playing actually is. And I actually learned something. I’m an old Rock & Roller (Elvis, Ricky, Dion, etc ) But Hell. ROCKABILLY WINS hands down. Well gonna watch a few more of your videos. Many thanks. Phil
Great lesson Johnny. The descending scale starting at G on the B string, sounds just brilliant. It has a bell-like quality to it. It's not as easy to play as a scale which doesn't include open strings but it's well worth persevering. The D scale logically follows starting at D on the G string. Thanks.
You seem like such a beautiful man. Patient, Kind, and knowledgeable. I wish I knew you because I love music to. I’m just a garage musician and I could never understabd what was so important about the Major scales. Thank you so much
Johny, probably everyone says it but I must - you are great guitarist. Love to listen and watch how you play. It's huge pleasure to me. Keep playing till the end of the world! Best regards from Poland.
I just gotta wonder who the 118 thumbs downers are. Really? How can anyone not like Johnny and his incredible talent? If this is not advanced enough for you....I'm sure he's got some stuff that is.
Fortunately the thumbs down are gone, now that RUclips turned woke and began pandering to the insecure adult children. And yeah, I'd like to see some of those thumbs downers try to keep up with Johnny in his more "advanced" stuff,
Well Johnny Hiland got to say yes your are just about the nicest person doing what you do not to add one of the best if not the best !!!! Absolute class , wonderful teaching technique .... My only dissapoinment is that I only discovered you a few months ago and had I have done so sooner , well I'd have enjoyed your wonderful playing and versatility longer , still I'm on my game now checking out the many great thing you do ..... Shane from England. .. Respect 👍
Players Music im From Denmark and i really love his way of teaching. So calm and down to earth. I have learned so much from him. And i really like his personality. He really makes it easy to understand:) so yeah i agree with you sir 200%
Just practiced that 1st half. Not difficult, just weird to process. I like being taken out of my comfort zone though, it always pays off to try a different approach. I played that first half in reverse with some alterations and bends and badda bing, I got a mini solo now. Thanks man 😁
I haven't seen you in a few years sent you was here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Cascio Interstate Music.I love the way you play your guitar. You are the best I'm still trying to learn how to play guitar like you.I love country guitar picking and you are great. let's keep in touch I am a blue guitar player but I love country guitar picking too. hope to see you again one day God bless you.
Brilliant lesson, it's difficult to learn this over on England because other than Albert Lee, there are not many that can play real country. Wish I could have lessons from somebody like Johnny
I own this lesson, among others by Johnny Hiland. Really a tremendous amount of knowledge packed into what he teaches. However, it would be really helpful if each segment had a video chapter that is JUST the lick. It's very hard to navigate through all of the talking (which is very informative). I wouldn't want to cut the talking out, but rather provide additional video clips that literally have no explanation and just provide the lick. Once slow, once fast. I doubt Truefire will read this comment but this specific feature would make me 10x more likely to buy more lessons on their platform.
Just found you on here really liken your style and the lessons are clear and easy to follow subbed right away and looking forward to getting some new licks into my repertoire
at around 6:30 it falls apart: you said you're sliding with your 3rd finger on the A string, 5th fret and the first finger on the D string, 3rd fret, but that is where you end up, you don't say where you begin from, and i'm going over it many times to get where it begins.
Dumb question: Regarding the fretted notes(not the open ones) in the scale that starts at 1:50 …how important is it to individually “pick” those notes? Because I’m able to play that scale faster(still slow by John’s measure) using pull offs. For example, the first two notes of that scale can be done with one “pick” and a pull off. This probably made no sense. Sorry. I’m just trying to determine if using pull offs takes away from the intended “country” aesthetic.
Johnny great breakdown and easy to follow lesson. All I need to do is grow those middle two finger nails longer on my picking hand. Lol You still playing your Whitfill T-Classic. I just got my second Whitfill two weeks ago. Slimline. It's fantastic. By the way I met you in Nashville when you picked up your Classic T. I also have a picture of you playing my seafoam green Classic T. Great Guitars. I love the tone. Screaming Jimmy.
There are some people who are just born beautiful in character, spirit and human kindness, Johnny is one such guy.
+tenodogblu He was born a teacher, and a master in human kindness.
And some mean guitar chops, that's for sure.
Absolutely
I love Johnny, he’s humble and uuuuuber talented
I agree with you 🇩🇿❤🇺🇸 👍
I love this gentleman. A class act, a good teacher, and his love of music shines through.
Its actually possible to be a great guitarist and a humble human being. Thanks Johnny Hiland.
He goes where the freebies are at though , fact - call it surviving to be a guitarist , nope he's too good and too well known , check out all the sponsorships, demonstrations, he loves everything , he tried a small gibson he was saying man that's great I would love this as 1 example , he wants for free all the time.

I am from Austria and I am so happy to watch him on RUclips.
Genius Johnny. God bless you.
Thank you...
This guy seems like an excellent teacher, not just picker.
He's doing a good job of it right now and not asking for a dime. What a class act.
He did teach for many years
Man hes so humble, talented and great at teaching. Thanks Johnny!
I've been playing for twenty five years and have a reputation as a good guitar player. I just discovered johnny hiland and have learned a ton of new stuff people have noticed! Thanks johnny your the best dude!
Same with me, long time player and yet learning so much - great technique, wonderful way of explanation that I can immediately apply. Thanks Johnny.
That's what I love so much about guitar. I've been playing 15 years but theres always something to learn and it keeps it fresh! This lick sounds great to.
Heck of a good guy, with an amazing, truly well deserved gift!!!
Johnny is the reason I got myself a truefire subscription and I took it one step further and even did a private virtual lesson with him! Hope to do more and improve my skill in his wheelhouse
Ok, so, this dude is officially a national treasure now. Love it.
Not sure how l stumbled across this man. What an amazing pikker, l can't get enough of his style.
it really is quite wonderful to have someone who is such an advanced and brilliant player teach the basis like this - i'm in
Yeah, wonderful human being a legitimate genius. It's reaffirming to know there are people like this out there.
Thank-you Johnny for sharing your talent an teaching us to learn to play.
Thanks for watching!! We're glad you got something good out of the lesson 🤘
I am so happy I discovered Johnny not a long time ago and it makes me sad I didn't hear earlier of him. What a beast of a guitar player and such a nice person! Thanks Johnny!
Thanks for breaking down things, love it, thanks so much ❤️
Ok I’ve been playing for 50 years. You’ve shown me how much fun playing actually is. And I actually learned something. I’m an old Rock & Roller (Elvis, Ricky, Dion, etc ) But Hell. ROCKABILLY WINS hands down.
Well gonna watch a few more of your videos. Many thanks.

I’m not bored. Your pace is helping me nail the licks accurately. Thanks !
Acrylic nail! (lol)
Man alive, even the tone of his G major scale sounds godly...
I think Johnny is the best teacher I ever seen in that style...
Awesome lesson! I love this guy's guitar playing.
Johnny has such class!
I will print that imperative on my shirt: Always play clean!
I love you, Johnny, thx so much.

Fantastic player. And a great guy. Thanks for the great lessons my friend.
Excellent lesson, killer tone!

Johnny's lessons are a joy :)

My favorite guitar player and teacher
Just getting into guitar. I dig your laid back teaching style. You make it fun! Thanks for all of your help :)
brilliant lesson ....thanks johnny
I just gotta wonder who the 118 thumbs downers are. Really? How can anyone not like Johnny and his incredible talent? If this is not advanced enough for you....I'm sure he's got some stuff that is.
It’s an acquired taste... if they don’t like it, they should acquire some taste....
Fortunately the thumbs down are gone, now that RUclips turned woke and began pandering to the insecure adult children. And yeah, I'd like to see some of those thumbs downers try to keep up with Johnny in his more "advanced" stuff,

Just an amazing player with jaw dropping talent
Brilliant lesson, it's difficult to learn this over on England because other than Albert Lee, there are not many that can play real country. Wish I could have lessons from somebody like Johnny
Albert is a hero to us in the states! He really opened the door for all of us! Brilliant guitarist and great person. We adopted Albert!

Impeccable intonation and tuning. I'd like to see a tutorial on your twist/mechanics on that, Thumbs up,.
Looks like an earvana nut on there...(compensated)

Doesn't matter where the slide starts.. just as long as you stop on the right note

finally, a lesson that'll keep me busy.
