Watching this was so trippy and cool at the same time. I would love if something like this was actually released in VR and made a reality. Someone needs to take this idea and make it real. I'd be playing this all and every day. Awesome job, this is out of this world.

@@retrohead you could’ve fixed the animation by having to animate it like it’s small Mario from SMB1, if his walking animation was fixed (it was in reverse in the actual game, when it should’ve been animated the other way around).
I remember one of the coolest things ever when I was a kid was being able to play Donkey Kong on my Commodore 64. It was an arcade quality game unlike what we had for the Colecovision or Atari.

This is cool and I could definitely see this existing in the future, but I feel like it'll probably end up being a gimmick to play 2D games in AR, you just wouldn't gain anything over playing on a 2D screen. After a while I'd imagine people might only use their AR for retro stuff if they didn't have a small screen around to use
this leaves me with two questions: how did they check when you successfully jumped over a barrel? and how does the fire in the drum have a shadow in ar?
Lol. Glad I’m not the only one who caught this is either the NES or the Arcade version of DK. Though I miss the 2600 fireballs that looked like genie lamps.
In donkey Kong you can actually throw the hammer up in the air, so if you had a well timed throw and ladder climb you could bring the hammer to higher floors, he could also hand stand and if you jumped while handstanding you would do a much higher jump which could sometimes let you skip the ladder part
It is highly possible we play classic games with augmented reality in the future for sure. It may also apply with new games and VR games too as the video game industry evolves and with creativity and innovation.
I could see this being done with AR glasses or with something like Sony's Spatial reality display (a 3D monitor that needs no glasses), or even with a newer version of Sony's Xperia Touch (which was a great idea but the market was not ready for it).
The Pixel Ripped series of VR games uses this concept. I mean it's all in VR, but it's like a game within a game. You're in VR, but playing a video game in VR, and occasionally the video game bleeds into the "real" world (in the VR world of course) and you have to do things in the "real" world to affect the video game. It would be kind of neat to see that actually taken into the real world, using pass-through cameras or AR glasses. The game would need to be able to analyze the environment and figure out how to turn it into a navigable stage, which is no easy feat, but by no means impossible.
Seriously doubt there is any AI going on here or actual gameplay. Looks like a canned animation played back in AR in realtime. But happy to be proved wrong with some evidence.
@@GeoffSuttor Animations would work if everything in the game was done with animations. That's how I did some of my previous videos. In this case the barrels are generated at run-time with code and their movement and drop is all done in real-time, so mario can't be done with animations, cause you don't know where each barrel is going to be at a certain time.
Ive predicted for awhile that the future of gaming is with ar glasses, already being implemented on the mario kart ride at this time, and then eventually holograms
