Imagine a french guy directing a movie about the mexican experience and violence with nonmexican actors and admitting not doing any research on mexico ... winning academy awards for that movie lmao
Now imagine its about French history with Napoleon, saying you refuse to do research about the subject you’re representing that you have no knowledge about always results in disaster but the Oscars eat it up
I'm so glad you guys are safe!! 4:22 i don't know if internationally this is different but in Mexico we HATE Emilia Pérez... That script is hilarious to hear as someone who actually lives in CDMX, no one speaks like that, absolutely no one. A perfect example of how bad the movie actually is, the song "Bienvenida", performed by Selena Gomez. The expression: You're welcome translates to: De nada. But they translated the phrase as she was saying welcome, like welcome home: Bienvenida. So she basically is saying welcome, randomly through out the entire song. It's SO BAD it's hilarious. And that is one of hundreds of errors, and poorly done research. The fact that a director who admitted to not doing any research about the country his movie takes place in, is getting the best director nomination over Dennis is simply embarrassing.
My wife (a Mexican immigrant), who lived almost half of her life there and has a ton of family still living there hated it more than any other movie I can remember. And we watch a lot of movies. Even my gringo ass could pick up Gomez's terrible accent, which drove my wife up the wall. We have a lot of Mexican family and friends. They all either hated the movie or (if they haven't seen it) laughed at the premise.
