@@raycomeau6866 I was living in Shenzhen 10 years ago and there was a Carrefour just across the street of my residence, after 9pm everyday, the cooked food section (like roasted chicken, duck, beef and many other cooked ready-to-eat food ) and the bakery section (bread and tarts and fluffy cakes) offered tremendous discounts, they bindled two or three packs together to sell at the price of 1 pack, I often went there at 9:00pm to get all the advantages, lol.
There was also a Walmart, but like 1km away, I sometimes went there and found they offered a lot of discounts after 8-9pm everyday as well (but the discounts were not as huge as Carrefour) and they had the near-expiry-food shelf near the checkouts which had the food near the expiry dates but not expired yet and the discounts were extreme, almost free giveaways (Carrefour didn't have these).

What’s so impressive about this Walmart trip is that it shows China has such abundance and diversity of food supply and at such affordable prices. This is why the living standards in China are incredible. You just don’t have the means to eat this well in the supposedly rich west, both on the supply and demand sides.

The best supermarket in the world is Pangdonglai in Xuchang, China. It is not an exaggeration. Many people in China visit Pangdonglai supermarket as a tourist attraction. If you take a taxi to Xuchang, every driver will praise Pangdonglai greatly. The whole Xuchang people will take pride in having the best supermarkets in the world. Although I am not from Xuchang, I also envy them for being able to come to Pangdong every day. Compared with Wal Mart, PangDongLai will be at another level.

That pickled white stuff that look like worm is actually a kind of vegetable root. It has a crunchy texture n a little sweet. I tried the fresh ones, stir fried with celery and other vegetables, for the 1st time the last I was there few months back. It is delicious.😊
