I think I got more published papers from my doctoral thesis and a three-year postdoc that Claudine Gay ever got, and that was probably enough for me to apply to a run-of the mill lecturer position at a run-of-the-mill University. It was certainly NOWHERE NEAR enough for senior posts at any academic institution.
This woman is amazing. I also dropped out after 8th grade like she did. I also went on to eventually get an advanced degree. I only have an MSEE, not a PhD, but there's still time. haha I can tell you from experience how hard it is to do this and especially how hard it is compete for grad school acceptance with all the other students from privileged homes and all the academic advantages you could ask for when growing up. You have to work 10 times harder.

The scandal isn’t that she plagiarized, but that her dissertation committee and other peer reviewers allowed her to do it. It was an embarrassment for them because either they have to admit they lowered the standard for her, or they would have to admit they didn’t know what they were doing when they were reviewing her work. Either way that’s part most people overlook.

It will help your application if you focus on the department's current research areas and the interests of your supervisors." And what if my areas of interest isn't one of their's? "You may struggle to find a supervisor, and research funding might be difficult." So I'm not free to research what I want. 'You are, but your application may face difficulties." I wasn't interested in the implicit misogyny of gay porn, so I decline the invitation to pursue a PhD. This is a paraphrase, but no word of a lie.
Dr. I ask you look at Harvard Professor Roland Fryer, PhD Economist. He is an African American scholar who did the ground breaking research on police involved shootings/violence in 2016/17. Gay was his dean and sought to suspend and terminate him because his research and facts did not meet her narrative.

I think I got more published papers from my doctoral thesis and a three-year postdoc that Claudine Gay ever got, and that was probably enough for me to apply to a run-of the mill lecturer position at a run-of-the-mill University. It was certainly NOWHERE NEAR enough for senior posts at any academic institution.
This woman is amazing. I also dropped out after 8th grade like she did. I also went on to eventually get an advanced degree. I only have an MSEE, not a PhD, but there's still time. haha
I can tell you from experience how hard it is to do this and especially how hard it is compete for grad school acceptance with all the other students from privileged homes and all the academic advantages you could ask for when growing up. You have to work 10 times harder.

The scandal isn’t that she plagiarized, but that her dissertation committee and other peer reviewers allowed her to do it. It was an embarrassment for them because either they have to admit they lowered the standard for her, or they would have to admit they didn’t know what they were doing when they were reviewing her work. Either way that’s part most people overlook.

I read parts of her research, it was not acceptable but common in her field of research. Her adviser really didn't her help through her dissertation. Poorly advised. Dr. Carol Swain is an accepted and highly regarded political scientist. Kudos.

Right on Professor Swain. And Professor Peterson. Thank you for standing up for integrity. I’ve had many a “ colleague “ tack their name into my work without contributing just to realize later -that’s how they do all of their work. It unsustainable. It’s unethical, especially for the resources that matriculation of these types siphon away ultimately from our students. People like Prof. Swain are so busy propping up other people by doing the heavy lifting, and fighting the graft, they eventually tap out at a loss to our future leaders ( students) and true collaborators.

Just like here in South Africa where a school teacher was put in charge to continue to run South African Airways into the ground, based purely on the fact that she was a member of the ANC government and NOT because she was in anyway qualified.
When you're willing to live in a self-made universe of lies, plagiarism is not something you shun or have moral qualms about.

As a proud black woman I can attest to bias in academia. Just because someone has written something before and you write it later that only means you are the first woman to write it. I have written many articles and research projects which others may have written using the same words but I am the first black woman to write them and deserve credit for this. I have copied many papers especially from Harvard but the white patriarchy protects its members whilst excluding people of colour and women who have discovered the same things albeit later. It's time to stop the white patriarchy and recognise the first black and female researchers to do their own unique work even if it has been done before.

Claudine Gay will not be called out because of her colour, regardless of her behaviour.
If she apologises it would mean addmitting to accusation. Usually the more powerful people are the less likely they are to get over themselves and just apologise when they wronged someone.
