  • So excited to share this with you! I got a tour of the beautiful Taylor & Sage offices! And then I sat down with the Design Director and Missy Designer and asked them all kinds of technical questions about designing, their company, their thoughts on fashion school, and the industry in general.

    I am 67 years old. Started sewing when I was 11. Worked most of my career as a State Investigator working 18 hours a day...Retired and a couple of years ago, got back into sewing. Some friends thought my work was really good and suggested I start a sewing class. Now I teach three classes for underprivileged women and I just love it. I'm telling you this because you were the reason I got back into sewing and the rest is history. Thank you for doing all of these videos.. I found them to be so inspiring and exciting....maybe someone else will begin a new career at 67 too! No one is ever to old to rekindle a previous passion! Thank you for lighting my light again!

    I am 54, made my first dress for myself just before my 9th birthday. Most of the time worked in my own studio. Did a period of textile art and exhibitions. Now I am in the opportunity to work for a new brand and working on my own studio on a project that might grow (much) bigger. And during my work if possible I watch/listen video's and documentaries. Your video's are at the same time terrible and fantastic. terrible because they keep me from working, I just stop working and want to see every little detail, and lovely because they are so motivational to remember why I do love being in fashion and what is what I really love to do (or not!) even though it is working long hours and not always rewarding in money. xxx Thanks Zoe and all the people who agreed to tell their stories for sharing!

    I seriously appreciated this content. It's like graduated school and then what's next? Out in the real world people, where your school lessons become your work ethic, your customers are your professors, repercussion in poor time management is money lost, where being overly creative doesn't sell, etc. Fashion industry have to be practical to make money. This is awesome to see behind the scene of the actual work environment in fashion company. To me this is as glamorous as the next fashion show and it is inspiring. May I request if you could possibly interview Kelly, the president/merchandiser. Please please please.

    Hello Zoe! I rellay appreciate you taking time to make videos.
    Could you make a video about the problems with the fashion industry?

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  8 лет назад +3

      I'll think about it. First of all, it would be several videos, not just 1. It's complex to make videos about problems without sounding like whining. I'm not interested in making videos in which I sit around and whine about stuff. I would only want to talk about problems if I can present it in a potentially problem solving light. But it's food for thought and I will def think about it.

    Hi Zoe! I am a fan of your work and teaching style. I discovered you recently so I am checking all your old and new videos in a mixed order. I come across these amazing illustrations-flats (around 39.00 in your video here) more and more often lately and I get a bit mad that I can do only Ai flats and floats ... BUT not this amazing textured, multi shaded, natural looking, irregularly coloured - almost hand-drawn computer flats .. with amazing graphics in them perfectly blended with all the garment details. So, my question is: How can somebody get to this level? I am up to a wgsn level of floats but these stuff are just too yummy

    Hi Zoe. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and friend's experience with us. This video was really helpful I'm a graduated fashion designer, but I have been working as a pattern maker only. After years I have realized that I have lost my propose. What I really want is design clothes. So, now I have a job interview tomorrow to work as a fashion designer and I'm a little bit nervous because I don't have any experience apart from my study (6 years ago. Thank you, your video clirifies and refreshes my ideas about design process. Raíssa from Brazil.

    don't bargain price with the factory, they only make a small percentage of money compare to the brand. one side people blame how factory treat their employees,
    another they ask for lower price. bless their heart.

    Why do they need a factory in China?

    • @AquaMarino
      @AquaMarino 5 лет назад

      That's where factories can manage to produce mass production in lowest bidding price and the merchandiser has the relationship with the factories and fabric makers that is developing overtime.

    Hey Zoe,
    So I just watched this video and I am super amazed 😂 so my end goal is to have my own brand. I love business and fashion so much. Recently I have been doing a cert 2 in fashion design at Tafe and I was slowly getting sick of machining and pattern making and thought; there is no way I want to become a fashion designer. After watching this video I realised that a fashion designer actually really only designs and other people do the work I am doing at the moment! Next year I hope to do a cert 4 in fashion then continue onto a Batchelor of fashion design. How Much experience did they have before they started their brand? It looks like a huge brand for only being in it for two year! Crazy!! how do they make enough money to have that many people in TWO YEARS!!!! I want to bring off shore production back to Australia aswell do you think this is possible or far to expensive?
    Cheers Jye
