Love it when designers show off their neatly organised workspaces. Goes to prove not everyone has to be a chaotic creative, which is what people immediately imagine when they think of a fashion designer.
Zoe, your baker's rack / cookie sheet solution has just blown my mind! This is EXACTLY what I need to keep my projects organized and ready to work on. Thank you SO MUCH for this tour!
It's my favorite thing in the studio and I love it when other people get one too after they watch this video! I've had a few tags on insta, people showing me their new and improved studio space and I love it!
The best idea I have seen thus far for a studio. Just image where my projects are stored....I am so ashamed to say! Omw to buy a cooling rack just to get my mind off how disgusted I am with myself😂
You 100% summed me up in the intro. Workspace clean and organized...... Home not so much, but I atleast keep it safe and habitable for the children who by the way is the reason my home is a wreck. I love your studio setup, very spacious for station hopping.
It hurts to want something so bad and know you'll never get it. I'm crying thinking what might have been if different choices were made oh so long ago. I'm am so glad you have such a beautiful space to work.
Zoe Hong Right!! I forgot about that. Well please update us when you get your new toy 😉. Maybe you can find a gently used one on Craigslist, or a local sales app. Ooh Claire Marshall has a tool shelf type thing for her makeup storage. It's awesome! All grungy like.
First, I love this workspace. Second, life goal is now to have a workspace as organized and accessible as this. Thank you for the inspiration! * Tucks note about giant cookie sheet into mental Rolodex*
This was a beautiful video which has showcased so much for me to think about. I love what you shared about the ironing board. Way better and more knowledgeable than using a regular sewing machine.
I actually do have a Spanish conquistador bust that has a helmet on, on my mantle.....who doesn't? lol. The cookie sheet rack is a brilliant idea, I have a similar unit but it's a wood sorter and a drying rack but what's so interesting is how two different artists have so much in common and similarities. I have an affinity for watercolor in general, pencil being on of my top favorite. Great studio, the natural light makes the space dream like. I don't know what part of the country or world you live in but the studio and bookshelf area looks like a dream for any artist. Studio tours are amongst my favorite and Achilles heeling RUclips and will stop everything I am doing to watch one....because I'm remodeling mine at the moment and I get inspired with other artists studios. Plus I got a few ideas from you, thanks!! Take care!
I have seen many people 's workspaces . I really respect and appreciate my mam a lot. I have started respecting you also . This toor is like I am at your place. And in our India teachers place is even ore worship able then any temple.
Woww I love your studio! And the cookie tray idea is genius. I hope I remember that when I get to having my own studio in the future...the far future haha
Thank you for sharing. It's very helpful and I'm certainly taking down notes for my next studio for a RTW line. I love your voice by the way, so sassssssy!
You're really a heaven sent! ❤ Thanks a lot for the videos, Ms. Zoe! You're one of my biggest inspirations. Your videos really help a beginner like me- a lot! Aaaand! I super love your humor. Love lots from the Philippines! ❤
You can use your white background directly against the window near your desk to give you that diffused rather than harsh light when you work! Just a small tip in case you didn't know 😀 your studio setup = #GOALZ 💖💖💖 also, your videos are so informative!!!!
Drooling over the space, trying to think of a question to justify a comment (as requested.) For self entertainment I design homes centered around my current life. Major current trend can be condensed down into work studio with inside walls built in large niches for individual category subject with doors. (Tradewind AC and tropical UV destroy everything) Individual areas for the varieties of things I with their books, notebooks, tools and materials grouped together. Open shelves and narrow slots to organize. A standing height counter for staging and things like the big paper cutter. All sorts of drawers deep shallow, slide-out open shelves. Long dowel racks for Fabrics, open for Goods on rolls, floor space to tuck in rolling drawers. A huge deep deep deep sink with hanging dry racks, flat wire slide outs. A place for everything to be put away or set aside behind closed doors, have a respite from looking at the mess I create. Not have to cram everything in, find somewhere to fit, have to root Around to find anything. An organized and accessible space for everything. And the room of course spacious LOL with good light with a large work surface. Big enough to have several projects scattered around in the works. Standing height - my ideal with stools. Giant cutting mat always there handy. Design that table too - use that space underneath. 😁 A seating area with a great View and TV to have Zoe videos running while sitting down for hand/lap work or just think. With all the 'stuff' picked up and put away room Pleasant enough for other uses. That's my fantasy dream. 😂 I'm really good at organizing and utilizing space but there's only so much I can do in a small space. LOL Like I said drooling over your space. 😍 (Have the feeling I'm turning green too. 😒) You're an inspiration Zoe on so many levels 😍
“I’m teaching myself how to juggle” you kill me 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣 seriously what was his reaction I try not to be sarcastic with people I don’t know sometimes they take it to the wrong way 🤣
This was by far the most satisfying video to watch for my neat freak self. I now have a goal, to have a space like yours. Also I am curious if there is a video or some information of how you got to where you are and what education you went through, I'd love to find out your personal experience from universities to being a teacher and how you got into doing projects for clientele. Thank you so so much for your content its all amazing, I have already learned more from you than my expensive foundation course!
No, there is no such video. I don't really like talking about myself. I finished high school, went straight to college, got a BFA in fashion design at Otis College of Art and Design, started working in the industry right away, was offered a teaching job a few years ago, and now I spend more and more time teaching because I love it. I'm glad you enjoy my channel!
The cooling rack is genius for project storage. I need to know more about this chair. My chair in my studio has a temperpedic cushion on it but I still have problems when I work several long days in a row.
Two of my favorite things! The chair is an Aeron desk chair, the material is a strong mesh with some bounce to it. There are a lot of styles but the same material. I've had it for years and years and it's still great. Expensive but worth it. The cushion I have on it I bought separately on Amazon--it's to accommodate a tailbone injury but I don't absolute need it on the Aeron chair like I do on other chairs.
I broke my tailbone giving birth. And I have 84 titanium coils in my pelvis. So my "undercarriage" can use all of the special treatment I can give it. I will look up that chair for sure. Thanks for helping me out!!!
No idea if you still check this BUT, I'm currently designing a home sewing space within a small 13'x10' room. I'm able to rip it down to the studs and redesign and place all outlets and such so my questions are: What would be main big things you want in a sewing space? What are things you wish you had done right the first time in the space? Do you have any tips for small space sewing rooms and making sure you get as much out of the space as possible? Thank you so much for all these amazing videos!!
Lots of outlets, some at waist height for table top tools. As big of a table as you can fit comfortably, for laying out fabrics and cutting patterns. The table should be a height that is comfortable to work at standing. Some shelves under the table for storage. A pegboard for tools. Enjoy your new space!
Love the cookie rack, being able to slide trays away. Is the studio an extension of your house or is it a separate space. I am currently looking to move and trying to understand for myself what would work. I love the idea of a big space which I can section off...
I'm going to do that! I was just thinking that. I have to do this one section at a time because looking at everything gets overwhelming and then I end up doing nothing lol Love your organization ideas
I just found your channel and this video of your studio and I love your personality!!! What a great space!! ❤❤❤Yes my tiny sewing studio in my apartment also has to be hyper organized or I can't think.
Like your studio tour and noticed its been posted in 2016 and made me wander why in all the videos ive seen with you in the last months ..probably 30 at least, the setting behind you and around you looked like you are working and filming your videos in a corner of kitchen or something very small ...just wandering. Thanks for sharing your experience!
When I'm painting, I like to have everything at arm's length, so I keep things orderly and tight. I like to spread out more when I'm making patterns or sewing.
I would keep big pieces of paper you want to store gently in those chests of drawers with wide, flat drawers. Architects use them for blueprints, art supply stores use them to keep their stock of big sheets of paper.

all that natural light!!!! that's a dream room!!!!! All that beautiful space! I wish I was that organized. Beautiful room!!!!
Thanks! I fell in love the second I saw the space.
Can't wait to have a studio like this one day! Love your aesthetic, Zoe, you're an inspiration, you have no idea how much your videos help me.
Love it when designers show off their neatly organised workspaces. Goes to prove not everyone has to be a chaotic creative, which is what people immediately imagine when they think of a fashion designer.

We need that rack 🤣. I dont know what to do with all the stuff. 🙈
Love the cookie rack, what a great idea!
it's one my favorite things in my whole house.
The best idea I have seen thus far for a studio. Just image where my projects are stored....I am so ashamed to say! Omw to buy a cooling rack just to get my mind off how disgusted I am with myself😂
@@zoehongteaches When I saw that the first time, could not take my eyes off it - brilliant!

Do it anyway. Go after what you want your life to be.
I'm in love with your studio space! Lots of creative storage ideas. I go to hardware stores alot for things. You've give me some new ideas.
I really want one of the indestructible tool drawer sets that car mechanics use for all my art supplies and papers!
Zoe Hong Well you have plenty of space for that! They are soooo heavy though, so start bench pressing now lol.
I'm super strong! I move around my industrial sewing machines by myself! :D

No question, but I love the lofty room…it’s gorgeous and just what you can find everything fast… I love it’s.💖🙋♀️💖
The way you organized your studio is just brilliant!!!

So much inspiration here. Thanks for sharing Zoe!

I love your idea of cookie trays for my studio.
Thanks for sharing and motivating Hugs
It's a great place and a great helmet!
The helmet is my favorite thing that I own that has no practical purpose.
Your place is gorgeous. I love the look. We don't have apartments/townhomes/flats like that in texas. 😒
You are awesome girl!
this video makes me want to cry because my set up is so terrible compared to this 😂😂😂
Don't cry! It took a while to get here. You'll get where you want to go too. Just keep at it.
Love your videos 💕
I’m learning a lot
Keep it up 👍🏽
your studio is beautiful 😍
Looks amazing!
Do you recommend storing the markers horizontally? Mine are all up right. Awesome work space.
oh geez I need so much help organizing my work space and storage space.
It helped me to tackle just one small area at a time, finish that, and then move on to the next. Smaller, more manageable projects.
I'm going to do that! I was just thinking that. I have to do this one section at a time because looking at everything gets overwhelming and then I end up doing nothing lol Love your organization ideas
>>because looking at everything gets overwhelming and then I end up doing nothing
EXACTLY.
Yo I love this!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍
I loved your pattern making table, where did you got it from or did you made it yourself ? btw great space great light absolutely a dream
You are living my dream I LOVE YOU😭
I just found your channel and this video of your studio and I love your personality!!! What a great space!! ❤❤❤Yes my tiny sewing studio in my apartment also has to be hyper organized or I can't think.
Right? When I get overwhelmed, I organize. It soothes me.

I was so scared to use those sewing machines in school!!!😆 but I push through!!!!
Yes, push through! You can do it!
What a beautiful work space. Thanks for the inspiration. It reminds me I need to over haul my work space. It’s time for a functional update. !!!!
Love the cooling sheet rack!
My dream studio 😢🥰
Thanks for sharing a peek at your studio! I have many vintage patterns, how would you store them in a studio?
I would keep big pieces of paper you want to store gently in those chests of drawers with wide, flat drawers. Architects use them for blueprints, art supply stores use them to keep their stock of big sheets of paper.
I want your freaking workspace!!!!
Zoe Hong: Where did you get your industrial sewing machine?
I've had that single needle for almost 10 years and I can't remember where I bought it but I got it new. The overlock was gift, but I know they bought it used off craigslist. Juki industrials are amazing and tough and if they've been taken care of, they can last decades so look around for used ones too.
loved your space so spacious.Cooking cooling rack great idea...also did you make or buy your own work tables? LOVE THE WIDE TABLES FOR YOUR WORK SPACE
I bought those tables. They're the same industrial cutting tables you find in sewing factories.
