Except for Lovebites, you have an unfortunate hand in choosing the songs. Nobody knows this. With Band Maid, the wrong song and not live, with Nemophila, very good but live even better. If you finish this week, you still have no idea about the Japanese music market. It's a shame, because you both obviously have a good knowledge of music. Would have been interesting to hear your opinion on the really good stuff...

Metalcore is very popular in Japan and there are many great bands. I would recommend one of the most popular ones: Crystal Lake - Apollo ruclips.net/video/jX8RTjUUcLE/видео.html
There are also Crossfaith, Coldrain, Dexcore, Nocturnal Bloodlust, SiM, Deluhi, Deathgaze, Maximum the Hormone, Lynch...
In general Japanese bands are hard to put in a box and a specific genre. There are thousands of underground metal and rock bands that are very close to famous bands in terms of musicality and quality. In my opinion, Japanese musicians are the best in the world in terms of skill and musicality.
Here are some bands from different metal genres:
DIR EN GREY (Alternative/Art metal) Probably the best Japanese metal band right now
the GazettE (Industrial Metal [Hard to react - Sony])
BLOOD STAIN CHILD (Melodic Death Metal/Metalcore/Trance)
    MUCC (Alternative metal/Nu Metal)
    Jiluka (Avant-garde metal/Technical Metalcore)
    Gotsu-Totsu-Kotsu (Death Metal)
    Vampillia (Experimental Metal)
    YUZUKINGDOM (Electronic Metalcore/Melodic Death Metal)
    SWARRRM (Grindcore)
    DEVIL WITHIN (Melodic Death Metal)
A crowd of rebellion (Alternative metal)

Lovebites is phenomenal when they do thrash metal. That makes up about 15% of their catalog. They have 5% ballads, 15% rock/hard rock, 10% symphonic metal, 5% progressive metal, and the remaining 50% is power metal or a power metal mix. I agree with what you are saying how power metal songs sound so similar and can be boring. But when Lovebites does power metal they sound so much better than all the other power metal bands. They have a way of combining all the metal genres together into this awesome sound. They have a unique vocalist too. Lovebites is superior to DragonForce and Jupiter in sound for this reason.

As others have pointed out, Jupiter is a re-branding of the band Versailles with a different vocalist--well, with this newest lineup there is a new drummer and bassist as well. Next to Miyako and Midori from Lovebites, Hizaki and Teru are probably the best twin guitar attack from Japan that I've heard.
Versailles though, are less power metal and more Neo-classical with bits of power metal and thrash and the occasional power ballad thrown in, and their overarching theme lyrically and visually is a dark/romantic vampire theme. Great guitarists and songwriters. If you're curious, I recommend "Ascendead Master" or "Aristocrat's Symphony."

@@guitarzen5999 Makes you wonder what? They put out covers because they were sidelined immediately after forming because of Covid. So they started a youtube channel and just started uploading videos every Friday. It got them known, in fact the very first two (Iron Maiden cover of The Trooper and Oiran, an original) both went viral, so they kept it up. They do it for fun. Other bands like Biscats do the same thing. Every band jams out to covers, but they don't all share them on youtube. Nemophila does, because they're smart when it comes to social media. I like the covers, it's like being with them at practice. They're fun and loose and it shows that they're extremely versatile and that they don't take themselves too seriously. It's cool that they cover classic metal songs both Western and Japanese, pop songs, cheeserock songs, deathcore or whatever else they feel like doing. And yes, their primary songwriter up to this point is Kensuke Akiyama. He's very much the 6th member of Nemophila and he writes great songs. But they all write music. For example, Saki and Eye were the primary songwriters in Mary's Blood, which kept Saki pretty busy up until now. She's quite prolific and I expect she'll be contributing more in Nemophila's writing department now that Mary's Blood have disbanded. Remember, they've only been together for two years, and they've released an album and several eps in that time, which isn't too shabby for a band that was originally just a side thing, made up of musicians involved in other bands and projects.

@@satomiwa Makes me wonder why their producer is their primary songwriter, is he molding them into something their label wants? or is this all organic. If, as a band or individual you can't write, you are nothing. As far as the covers go, Bon Jovi, Kiss, The Minions really!. You call these fun, I found them to be totally cringe worthy. Both Nemophila and Lovebites did Helloween covers, both were in practice spaces. One band looked like a polished machine and did an outstanding cover of a very difficult song, while the other looked like a garage band doing a so-so cover of a much less difficult tune, maybe they should take themselves a little more seriously. As far as being versatile, if they want to be like Band Maid then so be it, just don't call yourself a metal band.
