I removed mine on both 6.7s (17 and 18), both the foam and the plastic. I believe it’s supposed to be strictly for noise suppression. Didn’t notice a power difference, but did get more whistle, and the peace of mind knowing that foam wouldn’t get sucked into the turbo. Both of them were folded up like that as well.

I have a 2014 ram dually , took it out and I can hear the turbo wine up more, dealer said that's not a filter it's a noise suppression canister, the bracket is just to hold the foam nothing else

I have a 19 3500HO and I took my turbo silencer out and at the same time I took that X thing and it was making my turbo surge. So I put it back in and now I just got my AFE intake. And you can really hear the turbo now. Super load and nice.

I removed mine on a 19 I noticed no horsepower gain or loss you can hear the turbo a little bit louder. The only thing that I can think that it is supposed to do is quiet the turbo down a little bit and possibly keep your intake from collapsing under extreme boost but I really don’t see that happening. Thanks for your videos a few of them have helped me through the process with my truck

It might do a little for flow but it's a sound dampener. They've been using them for a while. Not sure when Dodge started but I had one in my 04 5.9l. Only difference is you couldn't remove it. It was part of the pipe so only way to get rid of it was replace it with an aftermarket piece.
Pulled the whole unit out of my 17 and wife's 18 6.7l and haven't noticed any difference in performance, just the turbo being a little louder.

  • @six.7lopez

I took the whole thing out on my 17 and you can really hear that turbo now. Like 6.7lime said a few a years ago when you buy an aftermarket air intake it's just a straight pipe to the turbo

Eddie as far as the turbo not working right, as far as I’m aware I have a late 18 I bought in December 2018 and I took mine out, I notice a difference in the turbo whistle and then I also installed an S&B cold air intake. Which if I’ve left that foam and plastic piece in there would’ve been removed once I install the cold air intake,so the people that saying the turbo wouldn’t work right if you remove the foam in plastic doesn’t make sense. once you install an aftermarket intake it’s gone anyway, I did not notice any difference in my performance just the loudness, once I put the S&B intake on I did notice thought a response picked up a little, A definite sounded better, hope this helps.

When you go aftermarket, go S&B. Don’t fall for the $500.00 brands like AFE that tell you you’ll gain 50hp and 80lb/ft of torque from a cold air lol

  • @jbrous3602

Took mine out my 16 but left the plastic air flow controller in...it keeps the air in laminar flow. This is where the flow is controlled to give the tubo its biggest bite of volumetric efficiency to deliver more air when the demand increases. Turbulent flow is what you get without the plastic and might lead to overheating the turbo.
