Thank you for the detailed history! I would've loved to see what the Greenbriar Mall looked like in its heyday. I have yet to visit it again since my initial 2020 visit, but I am hopeful to return and deliver a quality mall tour from there. Thank you for your support!
Thank you! I'm glad I was able to trigger some of your memories. I plan on keeping it going as long as there's internet and buildings to film! Thanks for your support!
10:26 That restaurant used to be an IHOP. I hope you film that old IHOP already! Great video! Interestingly enough, my Burlington Coat Factory took over a former Montgomery Ward right after they closed.
Oh that's cool! As soon as you mentioned IHOP I noticed the sign with the little frown in it. Unfortunately, I didn't film it as the mall was closing for the day and the security guards were all meeting in that area. It will probably still be in the same condition when I return, so hopefully I can get it then. Thanks for watching!
Magic Johnson theater has been knocked down. And the discount mall is a old Kmart building. Plus the other building was Kmart too. Mall is not dead. They just don't have those big companies on the east or west side of it.
Oh wow, the theater has been razed now?! That's a shame. It's a nice-looking building, I wish it could've been re-used for something. The two former Kmart stores were OBVIOUSLY Kmarts, and I loved seeing that both were pretty well preserved as such, even though they are different businesses. When I called it a dead mall, I was referring to how much foot traffic it appeared to have from the outside. I've never visited the mall on the inside, but I'd really like to!
YO! I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I am a super history buff especially for Atlanta History. I used to shop at the circuit city and buy all my cd's there. I also used to go to the Cub foods and Magic Theaters. The theater was definitely off the chain😂😂. Keep it up, you just got a new sub here.

So, here's the history. The building was a JCPenney from 1965-1985, Upton's from 1987-1992 (This is where the Dillard's-like elements came from) and Burlington from 1995-2019.
Zeeman I have never been to Greenbriar Mall but I have passed by the mall before and I will say it looks extremely rough, and yeah this mall never ever had a Dillard’s the first Dillard’s to open in Metro Atlanta was Alpharetta Georgia at North Point Mall and the very first one to open in Georgia in general was Savannah, Georgia at Savannah Mall, but this was indeed a Jcpenney’s and Upton’s but this Burlington was one of the original Metro Atlanta locations then came all the other ones after that, the Jcpenney’s closed long before I was born around 1985, so it only lasted 20 years exactly, but the Rich’s is now Macy’s, one of the anchors that Greenbriar and Arbor Place had in common was: They both were going to have Upton’s and of course Jcpenney’s as well, but the Upton’s never opened at Arbor Place, but with that being said I’m afraid Greenbriar Mall is on it’s way out of business soon! 🤔 But there was never a Target store on Greenbriar Mall property ever, all the original Metro Atlanta area Target’s including the extremely old abandoned Austell Georgia location were Richway stores owned by Rich’s, but the Target you see today in Austell Georgia is a relocation actually, so yeah Cub Foods was on the property of Greenbriar supposedly including a Circuit City, but they all left a long time ago, this mall got destroyed when Arbor Place and Shannon opened of course, but sadly I think Arbor Place is on it’s way out! 😞 But yeah seeing a Burlington with an escalator is rare especially a vintage one from 1965! 😳 But Anyways keep doing what you are doing with these videos man! 😁

Macy’s is closing in April of 2021. My wife loves shopping at Ashley Stewart in Greenbrier. But Greenbrier was packed last Saturday evening so I don’t understand why everyone keeps calling the mall dead because it’s not. But my wife and I went to Macy’s because they are having a “Store Closing” sale and it has absolutely nothing on the inside, but I had to use the restroom in the basement of Macy’s and it’s absolutely creepy downstairs. My grandma used to work at Rich’s and my aunts my family moved from Savannah to Atlanta in the early 70’s for better job opportunities. My grandfather used to travel from Savannah to Atlanta every four days and stay in Savannah for four days because he was a longshoreman while my grandma worked for Rich’s
Wow! Interesting history! In my opinion a mall can be considered dead based on the amount of foot traffic as well as anchors that it has. The list of anchors for Greenbriar is on its last legs, and such large structures outside of the mall, unused, can be eyesore. However, like you said, people still shop there, and I'm sure people still cherish it in the community.
@@ZeeMann_Retail Macy’s is closing so the mall will not have any anchors once Macy’s close in April and you’re absolutely right, I’m not sure if people shop there because it’s convenient for them or they’re trying to support the mall because really the mall doesn’t have a lot to offer my opinion only.
