I used to go to that mall back in 2010 to go to the video arcade across from the Applebees and the small anime shop(that shop used to have tons of Gunpla models). It was nearly dead back then!
I used to go to that same store I remember in the early 2000s going in to see what was new, always loved the gundam models they even had Armored core 2 action figures for sale once upon a time....check out Oxford comics in Atlanta it's been around longer than 30 years...peace man 🍻 you take care small world
It’s surreal to see the mall like this. I’ve walked this place more times than I can count. I remember when it changed from North DeKalb to Market Square then eventually back to North Dekalb. My first experience shopping at a liquidation sale as a kid was when the Phar-Mor went out of business. After high school we used to go there almost every Friday night to eat at Applebees and catch the midnight movie. I was mad at myself for not getting over there again before it completely closed but it probably would have just made me sad. So many great memories. I did drive by there last weekend and the bulldozers were hard at work so demo is in full effect.
Man it’s really crazy how much of an affect these things have.. I know it’ll happen to the mall closest to me eventually, I haven’t been in a little while but I’ve got some good and some bad memories there, after what you said though I think I should go atleast one more time before the inevitable,. I honestly don’t really want to either cause it’ll make me sad lolll 🥲
The memories I have from the 2000s and the 2010s…I ate at that Applebee’s, went to the bookstore, ate at Wendy’s in the food court, and took dance classes all in that mall. It’s so unrecognizable in this video but I figured it would get that way at some point. 😢
It was fun watching Zombieland 2 at the AMC in that mall when it came out. Once Challenges Games & Comics moved that was basically the end of that mall. The food court stayed open for a long time after most of the stores shut down.
The last productions I remember from that mall were when Loki used one of the anchor stores to be the "Roxxcart" department store and there was a ton of filming at least in the parking lot for The Electric State for Netflix, which has not come out yet. That one is a kind of mid-apocalypse setting with a lot of imagery of decaying American commercialism so the blackened part of the mall could be for that.
I grew up going to this mall with my grandmother Nana in the 90s last movie i saw at the theater was the Thing....its a shame its gone alot of good memories there
Nice video, but turning on power at the breaker box crosses the line as far as I'm concerned. With all of the water damage in the building, you could have easily started a fire.
I remember going here back in 2016 with a couple cousins and my sister. The first store we checked out was Challenges. There was a good bit of people in there at the moment. Feels strange to see it and the rest of the mall like this knowing that I’ve been there and that it’s now gone forever
I work in film in ATL. Worked there many times. The last time I was there there were only three stores open. A sneaker shop that sold $200.00 and up shoes. A hat shop that sold hand made felt fedoras, and a large furniture store that sold cheap ass shit.
This was the mall I went to as a kid. I had a birthday party at an arcade called Challenges that used to be there. Even worked in the movie theater. It was super popular up to the 1990s. I remember movies would start at 1 or 2 AM every Sat and sunday. Lines would be going all the way into the food court, like anything after 4 PM would be sold out. It was always crowded. Then some fights, maybe a shooting, then the theater totally stopped anything after 11, and it was at first slow and it was still pretty well visited in the early 2000s but by like 2007 it was clear the mall was dying. It's insane how quickly it fell apart. The whole mall was still open in like 2021 and the comic store stayed open for a while. It's like 10 years of ruin took place in 18 months. Half the stores seem like they caught on fire.
I worked for a company here: 19:28 about 10 years ago, half of these store fronts were abandoned then too. Applebees was closed, the only food options was Wendys and a Chinese place. Challenges and the movie theater was pretty much the only businesses that anyone visited.
Little update it is being torn down. Work has started in the last month or so. I feel next is town center mall . That mall has lost a lot of stores and has a empty movie theater across the street
I watched Town Center Mall being built- worked at the Texaco on Roberts Rd before that road became Barrett Pkwy. Took my kids to the mall. So many memories...
@@KatMo7121 I remember going there as a kid and as a teen and now going as an adult and seeing how many stores that have left or gone bankrupt and all the empty stores .it's just a sad feeling going in now

This whole video makes me sad. I grew up around this mall. So many memories... Thanks for the video!
Same bud # the old game store
Same. In north Dekalb now. I need to go drone this soon. They may have already started demolition

Wow. I grew up going to this mall until high school. I had Ton of memories there as a kid. Haven’t seen the inside in years!
One of the craziest looking abandoned malls ever
Nice videos. Love your style, the way you are taking those videos - gently and with respect to surroundings. Thanks
Badass ! 😃 Thanks for the video. 💝

Never seen one of those little spying boxes before! Great video.

This video was awesome! You guys are awesome! Keep up the great work! New fan here!
Thanks so much! Appreciate your kind words. New exploring videos coming out every Sunday!
This kinda reminds me of the Sandburg mall in Galesburg Illinois it closed quite a few years back and already has so much decaying in it

I'm shocked you don't have on a mask or respirator while walking through there. I can remember shopping at that mall and now its gone.
Great video boys! Was cool being able to see you guys turn the power on in some stores!
Glad you enjoyed!
this is literally across the street from my neighborhood. half of the mall is already torn down to make town homes💔
God that area is so busy sorry you live just outside the heart of Atlanta it used to be nice over there, I grew up going to that mall 🍻
Would love to watch Zombieland now😀

Really diggin the videos!
Awesome vid. We live north of here, the name is pronounced DeeCab…fabulous job ! Always enjoy your vids. Stay safe❤❤❤
Thanks so much for watching! Appreciate the comment & support.
water in old school sprinkler systems that have not been flushed properly spray out black because of the iron pipes corroding internally
Wow I have pictures of me and old best friend at this mall after watching a movie!
Crime, shop lifting, was an issue since 1980. Same problems many retailers face in California. Bad area.
The mold and mildew must have been awful !
I didn’t know that abandoned mall was the set of The loud house Christmas Movie. Do you like the loud house about Lincoln Loud & his 10 sisters?
Just think, Mall of Georgia will look just like this in 20 years.
Bet the farm on it.
Great video!
@@KenHeron Thanks so much!
@@Free4All May I use a few seconds of this video in my video?
(I reached out via email as well.)
I'll link you guys of course in my description.
@@KenHeron Yes that’s fine. Thank you!
@@Free4All You rock. Thanks!!
the black may be the sprinkler system activated
i have seen them drain those and its absolutely disgusting and black
A lot of the first Zombieland was filmed in Newnan and Fairburn, GA.
Whats the main theme song? Thats a nice retro horror movie sound
it’s sad to see the malls go but they’re like the town square of america we need a visionary to bring them back

🆒 FN ... VIDEO DUDES !!!!!!!
First anchor guess when into looks like more then 4 years closed probably closed before mall did my guess
The black on everything is from an upcoming Netflix movie.
6:25 was it like a fire or something?
Wasn’t stranger things filmed there too?
No, Stranger Things filmed at Gwinnett Place mall 16 miles north of this mall. They have some similarities, though.
Kinda looks like the mall in last of us
The L is silent in “DeKalb.”
That black stuff you saw was extremely toxic black mold yall was inhaling might wanna go to the doctor and get a x ray
Backrooms
