I've always wondered about this as well. When u see indigenous birds in North America.. Ducks, Geese, Swan etc. Their feet paddling in ponds streams rivers. I understand much better how each species have adapted to their environment.

Birds are so amazing they can and have adapted to so SO many enviroments. theres so much variety.
From the Terror Bird to Vultures to Turkeys to Peacocks to Birds of Paradise to penguins to Ostriches.
If its one thing they can do is adapt. I mean they been alive since the dinosaurs. THEY ARE DISNOSAURS.

Blood veins getting narrow close to skin when it's cold outside, so we don't lose as much heat! Great little factoid to learn - this is why people turn pale when it's cold!

Yes the choice of footage for this episode wasn't the best, one scene was of the poor chick being chased around by mothers whod lost their other chicks trying to smother it and then that one was parentless chicks left to freeze to death in the cold, not exactly appropriate for fun talk about penguins. @@uncurablekill

Glad you asked! :D When carbohydrates (like in seeds and other plant parts) are broken down, water is one of the "waste" products. Most animals pee this water out, but k-rats and some other desert animals (like pronghorn, I think) can reabsorb it into their body tissues.

I know more about the Little Penguins but it's likely the same for all penguins. Basically their knees are fused together and higher up in their body. Without bending knees waddling becomes the best way to move. But they do have strong ankles to allow them to jump up on rocks (not sure if this also applies specifically to the Emperor penguins though).
