12:14 it's called "tapai" fermented rice. Tapai also has some variations, some made with rice or tapioca.

If you enjoy tapai, you should try Sarawak rice wine. Tapai is the early stage of Sarawak rice wine ("tuak") making. If tapai is left to ferment longer, it will produce rice wine (which has alcohol in it).
If you are able, check out laksa Sarawak at SALTed which is located in Damansara. Not far from The Curve. They have other Sarawak dishes too. Another one is Kedei Kamek where you can find sago starch (gooey stuff - Melanau dish).

Tapai is ferment rice with locally made yeast. Here in Sarawak, we add 2 different types of locally made yeast and ferment for 1 month. Squeeze out to get the rice wine which we call "tuak". I love tapai very much.

Traditional kek lapis in kampung2 in Sarawak do not use flour, they crushing biscuits into batter & they steam layer by layer to make kek lapis.. what you normally see in the shop is the commercial/modern kek lapis, they use flour instead of biscuit & they bake each layer in the oven

Japanese pronounce Sarawak as Sarawaku. In Malay Sarawaku means My Sarawak 😄😄👍🏻👍🏻
the kolok mee soup is to pour few spoon into the noddle when the noodle is too dry and sticky. u can drink the soup too.
there are many version of kek lapis Swk (Sarawak) but make sure buy the one make from butter not margarine coz margarine one not delicious and taste harder
