Sold my DX5 Rugged as you had to buy dongles just to update it. Bought a Noble NB4Pro and never looked back! So much more features and functionality than any Spektrum transmitter!
I have an original DX5 Rugged, and the navigation buttons are horrible to use. Seriously, considering the new Noble NB4+. But then I have replace a bunch of recivers as well... Decisions, decisions.
I like that they fixed the touch pad, but it wasnt a deal breaker, just dont play in rain hahahaha. I hope the backlit screen doesnt make the battery life even worse
Had mine since the day after it was released. Love it much better than my dx5c.so,if you have a promoto, all you have to do is bind it,and the program will automatically load! How cool is that! But,spektrum has not updated there website yet,so you still can't register the raio.its not listed when you go to choose the model.
Best premium transmitter for amazing bashing sessions imo. Dropping it or getting it dirty doesn’t mean it’s time for the trash bin. For racing, it might be to heavy, but some people like even that. So maybe something for everyone. A great Allrounder .
For the price, you can do better than this. MUCH better. The NB4 plus that just released is already leaps and bounds better in every way. These spektrum radios are pieces of junk. All I see are people having major issues outta them with receivers just suddenly refusing to bind, having extremely short range, and burning up receivers with voltage that’s within the specified range for the receiver. These are some of the worst radio systems on the market.
@@fonicgaming6787 pricing is obviously high. But the FlySky radio is for purely racing purposes. The Spektrum can be used by kids that like throw the transmitter like a frisbee. That flysky would die instantly.
I have one of the older radios. I found it really hard to use the touch screen. In fact it had to sent back to the factory for repair. It worked after that but was still hard to use the touch screen. The radios works good except for the touch screen. It looks like this touch screen might be better.
Sadly this may be a step forward, but it's still 2 steps back from the original version. The wheel is the superior input method by a country mile. Tapping to adjust things is just so inaccurate sometimes compared to scrolling. An example being setting your rates, or naming vehicles. Being able to quickly scroll through the letters or numbers on screen is so much faster than tapping through them. The back light is great for sure, but that's about the only thing that I see improved. I say this as a DX5 owner by the way, I love the DX5, but it pales so much in comparison to a lot of other radios on the market these days.
Can you do a drop test on the rugged and the non rugged edition? I dropped my dx5c from waist height onto stone pavers and killed the potentiometers inside. Wouldn't calibrate in the transmitter after that. Bought a new DX6C yesterday. I didn't want to spend the extra cash not knowing if the rugged actually makes a durability difference.
Thanks for another great video Greg and continuing to be one of my top 3 youtube channels 😀 Quick noob-ish question. I've only been into RC for about 2 years and now have 10 cars, spread across the usual makes, and subsequently 10 different transmitters that I have to manage. If I were to invest in one transmitter like this, can I bind this to all of my cars (and still have all of my trim and endpoint functionality) fairly easily? Or would I have to make sure all of my cars have a Spektrum receiver as well? (In which case, I wouldn't bother). I just dont really have a feel for how easy a 'move your collection over to one handset' would be. Might be a useful video idea as I assume most serious RC'ers have to do this transition at some point. Thanks in advance 👍
The receivers would need to match the brand. There’s a number of OEM radios out there that can be cross bound. But your best bet is to stick with one brand. If your collection has more Horizon based models, Spektrum may be the easiest way to consolidate to one radio.
@rcdriver Thanks for the response Greg. Sounds like the notion of magically linking one new transmitter to all of my existing cars would not be quite as straightforward as I wanted. If I'd have to start sourcing and fitting new receivers in my non Spektrum cars, this is now a less desirable solution for me. I guess I'll just stick to individual units for now 👍
Question for you I’m trying to connect to my axial ax24 with the Furitek mini Komodo after putting it in bind mode the light blinks fast but will not bind to my brand new DX six rugged. Do you know if there are any tricks to it?
After buying and using the DX5 Rugged that first came out I may never go back to Spektrum. The buttons were terrible as mentioned on this video, plus there was no backlight. ALL non-rtr radio’s should be backlit imo. I also hate the triangular shape of the Rugged. 👎 Spektrum should redesign their transmitters and receivers.
I wouldn't buy another electronic item with a thermo sensor touch pad. I have had three devices using those, and they have all had me so frustrated I wanted to smash them. My game controller for my nVidia Steam console had those stupid touch buttons for controlling the volume. They very seldom ever worked. I think I am cold blooded though.
Holy. Crap. Between the insane pricing if spectrum receivers and the crazy price point on this…. Why would anyone ever buy this 😂. There’s a million radios that do the same thing at less than half the price with much cheaper receiver options
Kind of amazing how many people don’t get it. For many people it’s not about finding the cheapest thing or the best thing. Sometimes it’s pure convenience or familiarity some other reason. Literally met a guy in a shop buying one. He had all Spektrum equipped RTR’s, liked that he could just bind them to the radio and it had the thumb lever. That’s it. Plain and simple. He was happy with it. That’s all that matters.
@@rcdriveryea idk I guess I just don’t like buying into proprietary systems like that. They always tend to be really overpriced and only offer little bells and whistles over the competition of equal (or higher) quality for much less. Just speaking practically, of course you’ll have people who only buy traxxas chargers and batteries but 99% of people look for price to performance to some degree
I do not see any reason, why "touch screen" buttons are better than normal. I know one obviously: costs. Manufacturer can cut down cost of production and sell you on higher price, because it is "better". Well, it is not at all.
But here’s the thing. None of that matters. People buy what they want. They buy what’s easiest for them. They buy what they know. And those people have a right to know about new products like this. Beyond that what about all the hobby shops that sell Spektrum and not the other brands? Are they supposed to tell in store customers to leave to buy something else online? They might as well close up shop. Then the hobby continues its downward spiral. I think of the industry as a whole when I create content and not just my personal preferences. I’d like to believe those interested get the information they want and the others simply just ignore it.

I have the standard NB4, and other than it's not backwards compatible with my other Flysky receivers, it's awesome.

Let's talk about how not rugged it is! Fragile as glass. Only good thing about the dx5 is the thumb lever.
Mine has fallen off a driver’s stand. Down rock inclines and off the bed of my truck. The rubber bumpers are coming off, but that’s about it.

What about the battery tray the dx6c is removable and can use a futabo connector battery
Too bad Horizon Hobby doesnt gave a trade in program for everytime they update their products and discontinue the old 🤙
Great review 💯
Will it bind to my Traxxas sledge?
This radio will only bind to newer Spektrum receivers.
Only Traxxas transmitters can bind to a Traxxas receiver.
❤
Still using my good old flysky fs-gt3b. Love the giant screen and many options. Spektrum just feels cheap. C'mon spektrum, get ur sh!t together.

Hmmm not bad at all, the updates on it are 👍🏾…

I didn’t say touch screens are better. I said the touch screen for this radio is better than their previous versions.
Sorry Greg, but there are much better radio systems in the same price range than this. And you know it. The new NB4 Plus is a perfect example.

That radio is never going to be any good
@Paul0088 let me guess you prefer the Traxxas TQ?…🤔
@@chubn1 Nobel NB4 for most cars and the TQI for the bashers.
Pointless radio!! Stick with original 5c
No thanks. I use this way more than my 5c.
(1:27) ...But that "backlit" flickering could get annoying, not to mention "play havoc" on our eyes !!! 🫣 Is it worth it, is the question...!?? 🤔 ✌️
The flickering you’re seeing is from the video camera frame rate.
