The Rams did not draft a quarterback because they are fully commited to Matthew Stafford. CLEARLY
At their Spot in the Draft at 19, All the Quality QBs were Gone. The RAMS weren’t going to waste a Pick on QB projects like Travis, Ratter, Milton, Hartman or Tagovailoa.
Put it this way - if the Rams had the overall number 1 pick then Caleb Williams would have been wearing a Rams uniform next season and Stafford would be gone.

He doesn’t “deserve it”. He deserved it when he got his original contract. You don’t pay players based on previous accomplishments. You pay them on what they can do in the contract they’re about to be given. Kiss the ring, pay the guy is a recipe for a terrible franchise.

I think y’all whiffed on this. All of Rams free agent moves are contracts that align with the three years left on Stafford contract. They can win a SB with Stafford on the field. They’re not planning on moving on. Leak for wanting more guaranteed $ came when they didn’t draft a franchise LT in 1st round. If he’s going to take hits and have increased injury risk, then he wants more $ guaranteed thru 2026.
And all the contracts have optional 3rd year meaning they can get out after two years should MS is injured, retired or anything. After Goff's contract mistake, the Rams are cautious in giving long term guarantee money to players. They obviously are planning to get a ring within two years and 3rd year if MS is up to it and then do an overhaul. I would not be surprised they let go of MS after his current contract.
I mean our LT Alaric Jackson last year played pretty damn well if you ask me. Then they beefed up the interior this off season. The line for the Rams is beyond fine.

They did a good job clearing cap for the remaining years on his contract so they can compete while he’s still here. Makes sense to go for it these last couple years and then let him ride off Into the sunset.

I will admit, I’m shocked that Stafford is still playing. He’s had back surgery - so have I - and it’s surprising he can still play. But you never really recover from back surgery. Short term post-op is horrible and maybe long term it reduces some pain. But it never goes away.

Every time I watch Florio the always hating on the Rams nothing you said made sense.
Florio just loves stirring shit up with the Rams and Stafford. Still peddling the “they were trying to trade him last year” shit, he clearly made up. If they had traded Stafford it would have cost them $35 million MORE on their cap last year. Now He’s acting like Staff didn’t absolutely kick ass last year. On top of that, every move they’ve made this season is for the next 3 years. That’s their new window. They’re going to get a deal done.
I feel like this past season may have given the Rams a renewed interest in keeping Stafford, as the downturn that seemed like it was coming didn’t happen, he played really well. As a Seahawks fan, I wish they’d move on from him, then there’s the chance their next QB doesn’t work out 😂
Rams should have drafted Brock Bowers. He and Stetson Bennett understand each other.
Love Matt but he has a contract that he already agreed to. The only way that changes is if both parties have the desire to change it. If the Rams want to move money around, then Matt has leverage to ask for something in return.
It’s not more money for Rams though just more guarantee. If it keeps him happy give him one more year. He looks like he’ll be good for next and one more.
That's not how business works. It's called leverage. If you need the face of your franchise to be happy, you'd better keep him happy.
There is NO WAY the Rams are moving on from Stafford. McVay is his BIGGEST ally and there is NO WAY the Rams are moving on from McVay. The simple truth is, Stafford is playing great, the Rams are moving to a more balanced offense to save Stafford and preserve him for as long as possible. They're starting to be a RUNNING offense and their O-LINE loves it, pass protection is hard.
They drafted a RB (Corum) and signed another (Boston Scott), so, it's clear what the plan is moving forward.
It's business. There will come a time when it's no longer worth the risk of paying him guarantee money. It happens to every players in NFL. The Rams only plan for max 3 years with every contract. RBs get paid very little to do all the work while Stafford wanting more money doing less work.
