Dak is 0-1, 1-1, 0-1, 1-1, etc. in the playoffs. In other words he wins one every two years and he’s never won more than one playoff game in any given year. The Cowboys, like every other team, wants to win the Super Bowl and Jones must believe they can’t with Dak. Dak is expensive AND his playoff record is terrible. You could live with one but not both. If Dak agreed to, say, 30-mil per the Cowboys would probably sign him and accept they won’t win a Super Bowl. Anyways the Cowboys should let Dak play out his lame-duck season and they probably will.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I would add that they shouldn’t be so focused on, “Even if they saved cap room, that money is just going to go to Lamb and Pardons!” Yes, no shit. They think that paying Lamb and Parsons would be a better investment than paying Dak. Seems like a reasonable strategy at this point, although I might even balk at giving Parsons all that he wants.
Not fair, Dak is a pro-bowl QB and we all believe he is a winner. The playoff losses are the defence, the ownership, bad coaching, a weak OL, weak receivers, weak running game, climate change, inflation, Covid, and Thanos.

Simms can be supportive of Dak all Chris wants but the fact remains that it appears Dak isn’t a “good playoff quarterback.” Dak wins around two-thirds of his regular-season games - excellent - but wins fewer than one-third of his playoff games I believe - pretty poor. Now I wrote a couple years ago that the Cowboys should trade both Zeke and Dak, get a boatload of picks, then make a quick turnaround and make a Super Bowl push. I also thought it was stupid they didn’t fire their coach although that’s a separate issue; they still should. But it doesn’t matter really WHY Dak can’t win in January just that he seemingly doesn’t. The definition of crazy is, “Doing something over and over and expecting a different outcome.” Well, Jerry Jones is sick of looking crazy.

I just KNEW revisionist history would try to blame the defense for last years playoff loss. It was squarely on Dak. Go back and watch the first half. He lost the game with horrible play early and then stat padded when it was over. Defense had no chance when he’s throwing INTs and incompletions.

if they surround him with enough talent, which raises his play, in particular a dominant o-line that can help a RB average 4.5 yards a carry, for 1700yrds plus a season, and he will also need a physical D that holds everyone to 20pts or less. But how many 2nd tier QBs wouldn't be in the SB conversation with that kind of supporting cast? Those QBs are definitely not paid top of the market.
Cowboys might as well bench all their starters and try to get the first overall pick in the next draft. That might be Shedeur Sanders.

QBs have won the SB taking more than 15% of the cap twice. And Mahomes has done it both times in the last two years. Dak is showing the league that middling QB, making top dollar will never produce results. Get a QB on a rookie deal, a bargain vet who has a career resurgence season, or Mahomes. That’s pretty much it. The next group of great QBs haven’t even got to the huge cap hit parts of their deals and STILL couldn’t get over the hump. And Dak isn’t even in that group.
