It looks like some other old buildings have been knocked down and their hist removed forevermore, I love the old stone house that was home to several branches of one or two families over those past 200 years or so, My dear departed grandparents' old home which also dates a further 2/300year back in time still exists but was turned into a cow shed about 80 years ago, it is in a beautiful setting high up on the side of a mountain, looking over a long deep valley, with river and large famous lake which can be seen in a distance with mountains all surrounding sides, it is a stunningly beautiful place but many sad stories could be told about this area about the poor people who have to emigrate to foreign lands to earn a living, never to return back to their homes or families they left behind. I asked my once one time if he would sell the old building to me and my brothers so we could restore the old building, similar to what it was when people lived in it but my uncle did sell or pass it on to me and he has now passed away Lord rest his soul in heaven, The old building now stand empty and partly forgotten about but if I was given the chance I would revive in in a matter of months, keep its old external looks and not change to much on the inside, I know that people would travel from many miles away are just to look at its beauty

What amazing thoughts James! Indeed my own grandmother was one of 13 children in rural Monaghan. The stories she told of the poverty they grew up in, and the house the family lived in for generations that is now a chicken shed.
      If the walls could talk!

    That's a real time-capsule of a place. A great find. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Thank you! I was reminded about our mutual desire to capture these places before they are gone. I have no doubt you would have eventually got to the Sycamore Gap at Hadrian’s Wall that was sadly in the news.

@@PonderingsofIrishPresbyterian Vandalism is bad enough, but why would anyone want to destroy their own heritage? The Sycamore Gap story is very sad. Anyway, well done for capturing this piece of history. It would be nice if the owners could restore it, especially the roof. Thanks again for sharing. 👍

It''s a mystery to me why anyone would fell that wonderful tree. I hope whoever is responsible is brought to book for their actions.@@PonderingsofIrishPresbyterian

Very good stonework, must have been quite a high status home in it's day.
Most would have been mudwall, and when the thatch got rotten, they would have melted back into the landscape.

The mortar would have originally been lime ,mortar which, of course is the proper stuff to use in any old building restoration. The stone looks mostly well dressed for this type of building, some skill there. Great video. Thank you.

I've always wanted to live in a cottage with rose's round the door since I was a little girl, l now have rose's round my window, sadly, it's not a cottage.

I’m sure it’s a lovely home Joan. Funny you mention the roses. It reminds me of John Hogan’s song ‘Irish Harvest Day’ where he sings about the roses being no more at his old home place.

@@PonderingsofIrishPresbyterian l had a doll's House which was a cottage, painted white, with rose's round the door when l was very young, l always said l would live in one when l grew up , unfortunately, there's a distinct lack of cottages in this area, but l do have a garden, and l do have my rose's 😊

One thing I notice about cottages in rural Ireland, they are remarkably similar to rural Scotland. Thank you for the video

@@PonderingsofIrishPresbyterian Absolutely, as a Gaelic speaker I can understand about 70% of written Irish and it various with understanding Oral Irish, on where the speaker is from, from about 10% to 70% Even when Irish speak English, they have their variation words which we have, my favourite is Ejjitt, we use it all the time 😀 But if you are ever in Scotland, you will be quite taken aback by the resemblances to yourselves, all the best, Angus
