    Just bought an Epson EcoTank (2803) and it cannot handle cardstock consistently even with the Thick Paper option selected in the extended settings. It inconsistently grabs the paper and sometimes the printing goes off of the page because it didn't pull the paper in far enough. We already had a G3200 which has never had an issue pulling in the cardstock. I'll be returning this Epson and recommend the Canon Megatank models.

Your video is over a year and a half old so maybe your style has changed by now. I would recommend getting into the models quickly at the beginning of your video. Then showing them actually function and comparing the print quality side by side. I was disappointed to not see a print comparison. What do you mean about the manufacture recommended monthly Volume of pages? What do you mean the manufacture knows if I go over the recommended volume of pages? Do you mean they know there will be problems because of the nature of the printer or that the manufacturers are creepers and they keep track of how much I print and will cause my printer problems if I happen to go over that amount?

    Once the initial over view is complete - the Epson line seems the best. Then you do research and find out there are issues with each brand.
    Epson:
    - there have been numerous reports of color balance problems ( pink overtones ) right out of the box
    - the ink absorbing pad when full locks up the printer - has this been solved with the new models ?
    - if the print heads clog and don't respond to a "cleaning kit maintenance" , the head replacement is very expensive
    - some complaints that colors were not vivid - seemed faded
    Canon:
    - there are many reports of air leaking into the ink supply tubes causing missing colors if you don't use the printer enough
    - earlier models had a ink aborb pad when full would lockup printer - newer models have a user changeable pad
    - lack of a full lit screen makes color adjustments tedious
    HP - I'm not familiar with them but they seem lacking features and their support has a poor reputation

    would be nice to have a review about all these pads that need to replaced. All of these tanks from Epson/Canon or HP needs their pads replaced in some way or another and its not the issue to replace them, the issue is you cannot reset the code on most of them and the printer becomes useless. Its a direct hit to the customer to throw away printer that can still be used. so yes you are saving on ink but in the end throwing away an expensive printer due to pads or using some sketchy software's to reset the new installed pads.

    • @alfblack2
      @alfblack2 2 года назад +2

      indeed. that is why i will never buy an epson printer ever. Currently shopping for new printer. Discovered that canon printers will also have this error. *BUT* you don't need some sketchy software to reset it. Its a few key combinations to get printer to maintenance mode and reset the waste counter (search on youtube). Something that should be a included in the manual and not hidden to users. Well newer series Gx040 have the capability to buy these pads (maintenance cart). So canon seems to be improving its ways.

    Although most factors are covered here, arguably the most important one is missing. Does the machine actually work well and if not what does the company do about it in terms of their warranties? I have used printers attached to computers for about forty years, always (until recently) Canon or Epson. All have eventually died simply through old age. Never had any problems, never had any complaints other than the cost of cartridges. Then I purchased an HP tank machine and from the time it was first hooked up to the computer it has NEVER worked correctly. It has been into two different HP service centres who have both carried out repairs without charge under the warrantee. However the machine still doesn't work properly and on requesting a replacement machine I was refused. One service centre (Bangkok) stated that I could not get a replacement machine simply because the machine obviously had too much use! Yet the last service centre (Chiang Mai) has said, in writing, that the machine has, in fact, had little use. Judging by my experience there is only one thing to say: DO NOT BUY ANYTHING MADE BY HP.

    • @daggern15
      @daggern15 2 года назад

      Not buying HP is good advice across the board. They are anti right-to-repair as evidenced by their ridiculous costs for replacement parts - if they're even available and overall quality really isn't there. I've had consistent problems with laptops from them and most recently, a god-awful wi-fi printer that works when I'm lucky and no other time. I genuinely win on the lottery more frequently than my printers works the moment I turn it on.

    What I wish you would cover is the "ink absorber pad" problem in all of these printers. I have the 6020 Canon and had a previous Canon Megatank. I'm okay SO FAR on the 6020 Canon but I had to throw out the previous Canon Megatank because the ink absorber pad was full and even though you can add new pad material Canon will not give the user the reset code. I believe that is similar with the other two you reviewed. Love the 6020. I put card stock in the back and plain paper in the cassette. Does a great job but I fear that someday that ink absorber pad will be full and it will stop me for using this excellent printer. Why can't the manufacturers fix that sell the user an easy to insert pad and give the user the reset code?

    I currently have an hp office jet 5200 all-in-one printer. I try to use remanufactured cartridges. Now I'm thinking of switching to an Ecotank printer. I checked out the hp instant ink subscription plan and since I use the HP Smart App it has statistics on how many pages I print monthly. I print about an average of 79 pages per month. HP Instant Ink will support 100 pages of either black and white or color printing for $4.99 a month or 300 pages for 9.99 a month. I'm wondering if I should just get the instant ink subscription or an ecotank printer. I found an ecotank 4800 printer for a great price.

    Ink tank or refillable tank printers are great for high volume. For home use (where the volumes are under 20 pages or a dozen 4x6 photos per month) is the investment really worth the initial cost? I moved recently and need to replace 2 printers.... a general multi function and a wide bed photo printer. It would be "nice to have" a refillable tank (6 color) multifunction however, the initial cost would be outrageous for the amount of printing I would do, and the ink would outlast the life of the printer. The Epson ET‑8550 is $ 700 dollars while the cartridge XP-970 is $ 299. If I replace the full set of inks 2x per year that is $380 per year. It will take 2 years to brake even. I know tech keeps moving forward and who knows what printers will be like 2 or 3 years from know.
    If the Ink tank ET-8550 (or equivalent) were $200 less then I'd buy it now. Can't see why it costs so much except that Epson has to recoup the lost potential revenue from cartridge sales.

    Hello Brandon. You seem like a very nice person and a good communicator. I've been watching this video for 10+ minutes. Problem, from my perspective, is that you have covered a lot of material but not a single mention about the absolute most important consideration when shopping for a printer. How do these printers compare when printing a full color, full contrast photographic print on photo quality paper? For me, and I'm sure for many people, statistics like ink consumption, wireless capability, use with a smart phone are only important if the printer can print a high quality photographic print. I do understand that there can can be some differences of opinion about the visual quality of the print, but things like color fidelity, banding, saturated blacks, saturated colors, overall contrast range, color shifts, streaks, etc. are fairly easy to comment on. I wish you well going forward. Maybe you comment on these things later in the video, but I think this needs to be addressed FIRST, not at the end as an afterthought.

    • @BestPrinters
      @BestPrinters  Год назад

      Hi Dennis, I am coming out with an updated video on this topic. In my experience all these printers have a standard photo print quality. I say that after reviewing countless printers in each category. Any brand you go with ( so long as you use the correct photo printing settings) will have great photo quality.

  • @mehdishirazi3
    @mehdishirazi3 Год назад

    Reliability is probably the most important thing. Canon is known to have a purge count that can't be reset even when you clean the overflow sponge. Basically, it commits suicide. The problem is that the nozzles get clogged, and if you are a moderate user and you have to purge and clean them. Instead of having a purge tank, they have a sponge and a digital counter. After you clean a certain amount of time, your printer permanently shuts down. The HP's problem is that they own your printer, not you. They can shut down your printer for any stupid reason. I used to only use HP until they wouldn't let me use the scanner to scan papers into my computer because my black was low. I wasn't printing, I needed to scan and send documents to my lawyers but instead I had to go to FedEx and pay $24 to scan things in because they were trying to force me to buy ink. I have an Epson now, but I don't know about their ecotank. Sad, I have 3 dead printers sitting in my house - 2 HP and 1 Canon.
