In order to help solve the temperature issue you mentioned-- just take a play out of the great Martini playbook.... whereas you pre chill or freeze everything associated with the Martini before making a Martini.
Accordingly for your Espresso, the removable components inside the expresso maker could go inside the pot of boiling water assuming you have an open pot.... and I would also recommend filling the Espresso drinking cup full of boiling water and let it stand and empty it at the point of executing the pumping process.
Otherwise if left at room temperature all of those items end up becoming essentially heatsinks and draw away heat from the water used to make your Espresso.
One other way to preheat everything is to do a pre- run so to speak and run/pump straight hot water through the machine to warm it up then immediately follow with the actual Espresso production.
Perhaps you could give the aforementioned a try and let us know if this helps any?
You have me keenly interested in purchasing one of these--
    good video and thank you

I use this with a non pressurised 51mm basket, and I also sawed off the bottom to get bottomless extractions. It works a lot better once you mod it!

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner

Wow, very cool idea! Did you use a hole saw on a drill, or cut it off with a band/hack saw? Which 51mm fits well in there? Cheers ☕️

@@TomsCoffeeCorner I used a 50mm hole saw attachment for my drill! And I bought a 51mm basket from AliExpress along with a puck screen. For this espresso maker, I found a puck screen was quite necessary as it reduced channeling by a huge margin. The only issue I have with this is being able to hold temperature. I usually have to preheat it and it adds to my workflow. But for good manual espresso for a 100 bucks, I'm pretty happy with that!

@@sanildhamija4064 Very cool, thanks for sharing, Sanil! I just checked and the 51mm Delonghi baskets I have are just slightly too big. I cannot screw the cap shut. Would you mind sharing a link to the baskets you found? Cheers, T

There are free STL files on the web for bottomless portafilters for this Staresso model. I believe it will hold baskets up to 54mm. I had one printed out for under $20. Now I can use a 54mm single or double basket, and all the appropriately sized accessories like a puck screen, dosing ring, tamper, etc... Diagnosing a shot is also much easier with a bottomless.

Thanks for putting this video together, allows for evaluating before purchasing one of these portable espresso makers. If I can suggest some more careful and better though-out camera angles and the speedin which you move components around. I found myself getting a little frustrated repeatedly rewinding trying to see details to make a decision on this product. Thanks!

I just got one of these because Amazon had it for sale for Black Friday. First impressions. I think I ground my first dose too finely but I still got a nice bit of crema. As you mentioned you "can" use the tiny cup for tamping (my tamp for this comes on Wednesday) but it's very fiddly and I don't recommend it. I look forwards to modding this as other people in the comments have done.

Not for me it isn't. The espresso does not get as hot, and you are stuck with a pressurized system. But on the go, it is still pretty cool.
