My take:
Until Xemnas got his Final Mix boost, Pete had the most screentime out of any villain in KH2. For about the first half of this screentime, this is fine - Pete plays his role as a comedic recurring villain well. But by the time we get to Port Royal, it begins to feel like he's becoming overplayed, like the writers are putting him in worlds just for the sake of having him there, as if his presence somehow makes the visits to those worlds more relevant. It's most ridiculous in the Pride Lands. Did we really NEED to see Pete as a chubby black lion? He barely does anything there, not even really interacting with Scar, so what was the point? However, he redeems himself by the end, which puts his cowardice on display until he reunites with Mickey, who reminds him of how he used to be a tough guy who fought even when outclassed, which gives him the courage to do the same now against the swarm of Heartless coming his way. Like Maleficent, this ending gets diminished in future games, but when just taken in the context of this one, it's perfect.
Preach. I honestly feel Pete's interferance in Port Royal and the Pride Lands were unnecssary. Literally had no impact whatsoever.
He was controlling the Heartless in Port Royal, which would have been a decent justification for his presence there - had it not been for Land of Dragons, where we saw Shan Yu controlling the Heartless on his own, so that just begs the question as to why they couldn't have had Barbossa doing the same.

Despite doing all of that on behalf of Maleficent, until Xemnas took action, Pete was basically the main threat for the first half of the Kingdom Hearts 2.

gotta admit....pete's pretty damned cool. especially since after all of the beatings he takes, he gets up easier than other opponents. and not only that, but he uses his fists for battle, the only one like that in the kingdom hearts series is tifa. they don't need weapons it seems.
He’s probably even stronger than Maleficent if he could apply the proper technique, his innate magic (spatial manipulation, magic projectiles, and invincible barriers) is extremely strong on paper and he’s survived inside the darkness for much longer than Maleficent, and not only that, but can control said darkness for his own will
Pete is awesome but Donald is even more badass. Plus, Pete still has some sort of magic and has bombs.
the pride lands was the only place where Pete came close to succeeding.

I like how Pete has half an hour of screen time in this game but in the next one he doesn't even have 5 minutes
Xehanorth being just a foolish misguided fanatic and Xemnas just being unwitting pawn out of necessity, Pete, outlasting them both, is far more greater villain, more evil (Xehanorth worships light and Xemnas being tragic villain who just doesn't know better) more knowledgable (he knows about Book of Prophecies and has seen Old Keyblade Masters with his own eyes) and henceforth far more threatening presence in the story.
Also due to his connections to Maleficent, (She really dwarfs Xehanorth's ambitions in every way and was akways step ahead of him) he is now potentially far more dangerous threat to the Realm of Light than Xehanorth's will ever be.

I despise how Mickey is constantly called the "king" in KH. Goofy and Donald aren't his servants! This universe ruined Donald! He should've been the knight, not Goofy!

@@dimentioo Yeah, it's really annoying and even humiliating for Mickey's supposed best friends to constantly only refer to him as "the king" like he's some god or something. The Donald of the classic cartoons would have NEVER stood for that kind of treatment. : /
@@ThePaganSun To be fair, mages do tend to outrank knights but still, considering that the trio are supposed to be best friends it's still strange they only refer to him as king
@@jamesporter571 Right???? It's frustrating too because even Sora and the other original KH characters refer to him like that (except maybe Riku) when they don't refer to any other Disney royalty like that.
Plus, Donald has shown himself to be physically stronger than Mickey and Goofy combined (and sometimes even Pete too) in other Disney media so it's weird to portray him as a mage as opposed to a knight or warrior.
