Great podcast again!
One of the reasons rugby is popular in private schools was because the rules were first written down and developed in Rugby School in England, this then spread to all the other private schools so they had people to play against. Due to the physicality of the sport there is also a theory that it was popular in private schools as it developed young men physically and mentally for becoming professional Army Officers, as if you could play rugby you could probably hold your own during the physical demands of combat, and private schools have always provided a lot of people to become Army Officers. One of the ways rugby was spread around the world was through the Army teaching people so they could then play them.
My daughter was invited to a friend's station on North Island and realised she was driving through the locations for Lord of the Rings on the farm's access road.
Honestly Iona cracks me up in every podcast. Tugs 😂
My daughter tore her ACL, Sprained her MCL and fractured both the Femur & Fibula where they meet at the knee during rugby practice last fall. We are in Pennsylvania, USA. She is out for at least a year.
Aye tug of war is international , very competitive and always attracted a lot of farmers for our strength and staying power or pure "thraness " as us Irish call it ,meaning stubborn and not willing to give in even if its at our own expense.Pulled in our parish team and have many great memories, tug of war consists of 3 ends or pulls and have several weight classes for men and women. What a confident and talented young woman , family should be rightfully proud.
Glad you got the fork lift on the move. That calf looks great. 👍😊👍
Tug is quite an international word. You hear it worldwide especially in shipping, the tugboats that help dock the massive ocean going cargo ships are usually just called tugs and not the full tugboats.
Iona was proper on fire this episode with the gorillas and tarts and things 😂
Cammy you're thinking of Max Boyce with his huge Leek on his lapel. One of us is showing their age now🤣🤣
