Well it is said it all started with Rob Halford the lead singer for Judas Priest. He was the pioneer that brought that look into the rock world (although it was kinda inspired by the gay s&m subculture that he was introduce to as he was working on the details of the look in 78). Technically, the purpose of the look was mainly to showcase that they were the ultimate macho of all men, and to showcase their dominance of all bands in the metal world. And, not only did it paid off for Rob and Judas Priest since their fans fell in love for it, but it also inspire an entire culture of heavy metal heads as well that took notes and embrace with open arms that look. I hope this helps.
Amazingly even now a lot of people are completely unaware that Rob Halford is gay and was very familiar with that style of dress. I don't know if Rob ever officially "came out " but it was a well known fact that didn't seem to work against him and and he quite often pranced around in his younger days on stage at least and would appear carrying a whip and in one live film clip for Electric Eye he looks to have a penis pump strapped to his leg .

Judas Priest was pretty much the main band that started the black and leather thing. All genres of music have their dress codes, that way you know what tribe someone belongs to. Also a lot of 80's rap stars wore black like rock stars maybe to represent the rebellion of the music.
You should check out Tommy Lee's drum solo from there final tour. He called it the cruecifly it was a rollercoaster that went over the crowd to the center of the arena while he was spinning in the air.
Travis Scott actually used Tommy Lee’s drum set up when he did the whole circle roller coaster thing. That was Tommy’s from years before!
My fav Motley Crue song. It's always awesome.
Black goes with everything lol😂
Tommy Lee on drums, Nikki Sixx on bass, Mick Mars on guitar and Vince Neil on vocals👍
Now check out Smoke the Sky and Face on the dirt.
My biggest regret is that there were Crue concerts I didn't get to attend.
If you think that drum kit was wild then you need to check out his 360 drum solo and The Cruecifly! Tommy "T-Bone" Lee is a bad ass drummer!
The dude on the drums is tommy Lee ,this group is excellent in concert.
Held in drums with shoulder locks like upside down roller coasters
I never even thought about how Tommy Lee was attached until you mentioned it.
Look closely, he's wearing a harness.
Heavy Metal bands and bikers were synonymous with black leather clothes and chains and other accessories.
I saw these guys in the 80’s , lost my shoes but had an amazing time, partied with them at a bar afterwards , Tommy Lee the drummer was crazy fun
Lmao, you probably did more than party with em.
Black is the combination of every color. There for black represents that every color is welcome. Also, you see a lot skulls in metal music. Skulls have no color, no sex, no sexual orientation and no religion. Everyone regardless of who or what you are is welcome in this music
Color black goes with everything and just looks cooler \m/
Tommy Lee's on the drums and the reason why everybody wore black because that was rebellion then the parents hated that music and the kids loved it rebellion was everything we took everything to a whole new level whole new level
the drummer is tommy lee
Big blonde hair and black leather. It's very 🤘😝🤘
To partly answer your question about why always the Black attire in rock music. If you look more carefully it's Black,Red,White. It is now stretched across all genres. Espescially the stage set including outfits. The main color now is the one you two are using.
I'm in Tennessee myself, but I have a very close buddy who lives in Milton FL
