Neil Peart was nicknamed 'The Professor' for his intelligence, lyrics and his immense drum skills... his drum solos were very intricate & technical in execution, playing rock, jazz, blues, African rhythms, electronic pads and echoes, etc. Tommy Lee is a showman on drums and beats... his drumming skills were great, but he was not into the technical or methodical aspects of drumming like Neil was... Lee's drum solo was a spectacle for entertainment, but he was also skilled in making electronic beats. Peter Criss, the original drummer of Kiss was the same way... a fan of jazz and swing music, he didn't have the technical ability or the power of Neil Peart or John Bonham of Led Zeppelin... Carr could entertain and hit his drums like no other. Then, there was (the late) Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison, who would play in a mask and coveralls and also do his drum solos on a riser that would turn and lift him (and his drumkit) sideways.

Drummer here. Since 1986. Tommy Lee inspired me to start playing. Tommy Lee rocks 100%!! No question. He just oozes stage presence and charisma. He's like a frontman behind the drumkit, and he beats the shit outta his drums. That said, Neil Peart is fundamentally a way better drummer. He's also a master of playing odd time signatures. Something you never see outta Tommy. Y'all gotta react to some old school 70s Rush to see what Neil's really capable of. Also, there are a ton of wicked drummers out there to react to. To me, Buddy Rich is THE G.O.A.T.!! Also, check out Dennis Chambers, Terry Bozzio, Simon Phillips, Dave Weckl, and so many others. Cheers, from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
Y'all are just scratching the surface with how wild he gets on his kits. Keep looking them up. Great dude, too. Really good to everyone he comes into contact with.
There's no way Tommy Lee is in the same league as Neil Pert. Neil had raw talent and skill, Tommy Lee had a gimmick. And if you want to talk top tier drummers, you have to go all the way back to two of the GOATs, Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich.
For drummers, John Bonham - Moby Dick, the 15 minute live version. Also check out The Who - My Generation live on the Smother's Brothers. I would also recommend checking out Michael Jackson's drummer, Jonathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett, playing Beat it on a Drumeo video. His cymbal choke in that is absurd.
My first concert was Motley Crue (Shout at the Devil tour) April 30 1984 in Colorado Springs. I was 14 we waited all day in line for general admission. We ended up right on the barricade. It was amazing!
You've gotta watch Tommy's drum solo on their "Final Tour" back in 2015.....drum roller coaster from stage - over the audience -almost to the back of the arena. Most awesome thing I've ever seen at a concert!! The entire concert was filmed and has aired a number of times.

I haven’t drummed for years now but I could still do most of what Tommy Lee was doing with a months practice. Ok at the risk of being slammed, when you strap a mediocre drummer into a carnival ride, it causes a stir. Best drummer? Best drum solo? I prefer pure talent as opposed to gimmicks. Talent doesn’t need to spin. If you want pure drums, I suggest you check out John Bonham solo (Led Zeppelin) from 1977. Just a genius and a drum set. It will change your life. In 1980, he was found dead, after binging 40 shots of vodka with a 24 hour period. He was 32 years old. After the band released this statement. "We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend, and the deep sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were." The statement was signed simply "Led Zeppelin". For the top hard/metal rock band of the 70s to just walk away because they could not continue without him, is testament to his talent. His son Jason Bonham, has performed with tributes to the band, wearing his dad’s signature bowler hat. I hope you check it out. ✌🏻🤘🏻✌🏻🤘🏻✌🏻

They were new, but performed Whole Lotta Love along w, most of their first album. They were opening for The Who. All told I saw them four times. Some of John Bonham’s talent seems to have been genetically transferred to son Jason. Sorry about my cheesiness.
@@raylewis2121 I’m sorry. My cheesy comment was referring to Tommy Lee being a great drummer. Not your comment. I’m not a Crue fan at all. Least of all Tommy Lee, as he is…. For lack of better term…. He’s just gross. LOL. I’m trying to be polite.
@@Mainecoonlady. Agreed. I’m not a Motley fan either.
Awesome show, seen it live in NM 🥁
cool concert mid 90s in the rain something akin to a gym forget where it was won the tickets off the radio
Definitely recommend checking out Buddy Rich and the Impossible Drum Solo. In his 60's at the time, and even suffered a mild heart attack during the performance, and still finished.
In terms of pure skill and technique, Neil is by far the superior drummer. But Tommy is an excellent showman with lots of charisma and energy.
I saw a motley crew on this tour, and Tommy Lee’s solo was nothing short of amazing! His solos at every show I’ve ever gone to were awesome! Much respect for Neil Peart. Yes, he is a goat, but choosing between Tommy and Neil is all just a matter of taste for their drumming style…
The drummer for 311 is amazing. Not sure if there are many videos of him. Tools drummer is amazing and there are tons of good videos. Travis Barker is also amazing with tons of content. Of course, you already know about Tommy Lee and Pert. I'm sure there are tons more tho.
Chad is an absolutely AMAZING drummer and lives out here in Prescott,AZ. One of the most humble human beings on the planet. Great mention for sure, excellent drummer
It's like comparing steak and hamburgers,
A good hamburger has it's place, but a great steak dinner is something else.
I saw them back in the day and the drum kit travelled on a track and spun while he drummed his ass off! Was so sick.
You guys havent gotten into to Tool yet. Neil Peart was the GOAT now Danny Cary holds that spot. Look up the drum cam video of pneuma. And check out the drum battle of Godsmack. Thats awesome too.
There’s a video, here on RUclips, of Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, & Vinnie Colaiuta trading drum licks. 3 of the masters, schooling everybody. You guys should give it a look.
Tommy brought the funk and flash but Neil easily holds the throne . Watch some older Neil solo's if your looking for greatness . The man doesn't need a spinning drum kit to make your jaw drop . The man only needs drum sticks .
I lowkey think y’all should listen to more Guns N Roses songs 🙏🏾
Another great reaction! Big Mötley Crüe Fan! And also a huge Cartier Family fan!!❤
There’s a lot of great drummers out in the world. but no one compares to Neal
If you ever jump back into Country side you should check out the "Wait in the Truck" video by Hardy & Lainey Wilson
Joey Jordsan the master of drums
