My PS4 Pro doesn't sound like a "jet engine". I upgraded it with a 4TB SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD. I'm very happy with it and still don't feel the need to buy a PS5.
I have a PS4 pro with 2tb SSD, been a great console, I love it. Keep it clean, no jet engine. I bought a PS5 recently, yeah, it's way better, I mean wayyyyy better
I got a ps4 pro from my wifes sister, because it's disc drive didn't work & sounded like a jet engine. Changed the drive, totally cleaned it & got new thermalpaste & thermalpads & got the Delta fan oil & changed the original hdd to a Samsung 860 Evo 1 TB. Now it's totally silent & is nice fast.
Because ps5 has no killer games yet everything is on ps4
I’ve got a ps5 they are worlds apart but my ps4 is hacked and I pretty much on it all the timw
😂 stick with 360 😂
I took my PS4 pro apart, and replaced the thermal paste. It did wonders for the amount of fan use! It even reduced frame skipping/throttling!
Weird I did the same thing and it did nothing 😅
@@Arbancks I also cleaned all the vents at that time, that might also have contributed. But the thermal paste really wasn’t too great before. I got mine second hand, possibly refurbished so maybe they just did a bad job.
I used artic silver thermal paste and cleaned heat sinks and power supply and all jet engine and lag went away. Picked the ps4 up for cheap because they thought it was no good. Lol.
@@cazsomething9433bruh I got a limited edition white one for $100 and did the same. Dude had a bad roach problem. Now it’s awesome got it only for Gundam.
I did that to my two PS4s, One Pro and one Slim, years ago. Had to do that to my Pro because it overhead playing CoD WW2 story mode for no reason whatsoever with the fans fully tilted. After I replaced Sony's crap TIM with something decent like Actric Cooling MX4 the loudest thing in the console was the coil whine. The fan was literally inaudible
That is the dumbest bait title I have seen in a while
I thought it was pretty tame compared to a lot of the other guys are doing.

Ok
I went all out on my ps4 pro with a samsung 860 evo 1tb, and replacing the thermal pads with minus 8 (thermal grizzly) pads. I definitely enjoy GT7 with the quicker loading times.
It's way faster
What is the thickness of the pads you used?
Definitely interesting to see, though a comparison test of before and after for several games would really show the results.
I upgraded mine with a pretty good EVO SSD and while it was noticeably faster, it wasn't mind-blowingly faster by any means. It shaves some time off loading, but i don't think it's even half.
Nice vid.... Didn't know you could just turn on the system after installing the new drive like that. Always have Plugged the USB drive containing the file into the PS4 console.
Then start the PS4 console in Safe Mode: press and holding the power button, releasing after the second beep.
Select Safe Mode option 7: Reinstall System Software.

Thank you my man I'm in the process of doing this and you're video is mighty helpful. I've just started creating videos on my PS4 Pro so this has helped me a lot. I just simply don't have a spare £500 GBP lying around so I'm wanting to do this in order to make my videos better quality. Thanks my guy.

Clickbait. all this is an increase in hard drive
I've just bought a used PS4 Pro and have good experience of doing SSD upgrades on PCs so this will be a doddle, I may even have a suitable unused SSD hanging around doing nothing.. Thank you for nice clear instructive video.
Hope you enjoy it!
Why did you turn a 4 minute video into a 14 minutes video 🥱

I have an original launch white PS4. It was starting to slow down and be loud, so I changed the HDD out for a 1TB SSD and cleaned/redid thermal paste. It runs amazing now!!!
This applies to any device, laptop, ps4, etc. An SSD upgrade, a little cleaning and a re-paste goes a LONG way.
@@Qwty163 It's truly surprising what some basic maintenance and some TLC can do to extend the life of electronics.
I dropped a 4TB SSD into my PS4. Ive seen pretty solid increase in speed. also, ive got a bunch of games loaded on it and its still only a sliver of space taken.
Oof I hope you have a ps5 too if not i feel bad for ya, doesn't matter what you do to that ps4 it doesn't compare to the ps5 and the best controller ever made it's not even a discussion honestly. my ps 4 pro doesn't sound like a jet engine and it only got around 47-50 celsius in it's thermal junction. I replaced the fan with a brand new one and used better thermal pad for the ram chips. The whole chip is now covered as opposed to the tiny hard rubber like pads that come stock that only cover the inner area of the chip. Also upgraded it to a 1 tb ssd.
Clickbait with a chip
I've done that about 3 years ago to my PS4 Pro, yeeted a 2TB 860 Evo in it, replaced the TIM with MX4 and had the best PS4 on the block.
Obvious advantages in reduced loading times apart, Ive found that the biggest difference was the home menu with a game running in the background. With a HDD it was just a sluggish mess, but with a SSD it ran as fast as without a game running in the background.
I eventually gave up on playing on consoles with the launch of the PS4 and built me a PC. Now i left it in storage with OFW 9.00 on it waiting for me to jailbreak it whenever I feel like doing so. Got my hands on it once but never really got too deep into it because all the games I want and have run better on PC. It'd be a downgrade id work for but still a cool project.
I delidded mine back in 2018 and added thermal pads to the ram chips. I put in a 1TB Kingston SSD and also jailbroke it. It's been running like a beast ever since. Hopefully, I get to jailbreak the PS5 too real soon.
@@Victor-rn7jzThere should be the first for early firmware ones but im not too deep in the weeds of that anyways. I just stuck to PCs now.
My body took a screen shot with that ‘No.1’ jumpscare fire beeping alarm wtf☠️☠️☠️
You’re still limited to SATA speeds on the drive which isn’t comparable the the speeds of a integrated/nvme drive. Most games designed for ps4 have redundant files regardless to account for mechanical drives it’s why COD is so large (it limits the amount of time the drive has too look for an asset cause it’s in multiple places on the platter) switching to an SSD does have benefits but they’re greatly exaggerated here. The best “upgrade” to do to a ps4 pro is replacing thermal pads and using a good thermal paste.
This is correct. Samsung 860evo is about the fastest drive that matches the sata in the console. It doesn't "increase performance" it makes files load faster, making the home screen feel more responsive and games load faster giving the illusion of more performance. As mentioned above, replacing thermal paste will reduce temps, allowing the system to hit boost clocks for longer periods of time, thus improving performance.
Sata 3+ssd is about 500MB/s vs about 100MB/s for HDD, nice jump. Plus it doesn't spin up and down.
The PS4 and PS4 pro not being designed for SSD means the life of the SSD may not be as long as a spinning hard disk though.
@@toxicavenger6172depends on SSDs but usually as an SSD user you'll need to literally abuse an SSD to clock big numbers, like over 150TB of written stuff on it before it hits the death mark. Which is over 300 times to fill the SSD and than empty it and repeat that process. But theoretically speaking SSD produces less noise, less heat and we all know that most people will need years and years before the SSD dies.. the spindle on the HDD will give out before the SSD dies. For an example I've had a cheap Chinese Kingdian on my old PC for over 6 years it's only 60gb for system only, but sadly doesn't have smart functions so can't say how many TBW it has, but it does have over 40k hours clocked on it.. and my personal rig has had Kingston a400 for the past 3 years and it has over 29TBW on it even tho it's only 120gb ssd for the system and few apps like steam and etc.. so that should say something.. and I'm pretty sure you'll have to abuse your SSD like I abuse mine to actually achieve those big numbers. Cause people take twice the years to clock or three times the years to clock 30TB on their SSDs. I've reinstalled windows 10/11 on mine over a dozen times cause of benchmarks, driver instability, early updates being unstable and many other reasons. 😅 I've had 3/4 HDDs die on me before I switched to SSD in 2016. Safe to say SSDs are much more durable than HDD in the long run on consoles. Less heat, less power draw. Less noise.

Right!?
Putting a 1TB SSD was the first thing I did with my PS4 Pro when I got it upon release day.
Back then a 1TB SSD costed just as much as the PS4 Pro, $400US if I recall.

Nice he-man collection you have lol! Had a few of those as a kid!
Constructive criticism - you miss a lot of helpful and obvious tips. Chief among them is transfer your old HDD to a backup external drive and restore it after you have installed the new SSD. This is WAY smarter than "downloading all your games again". Also truth matters - SSD speeds on a Pro are waaaaay slower than a PS5's SSD. Pro uses SATA3 with a max transfer speed of 600mb/s. PS5's SSD (internal) was estimated to 9000mb/s. NVME SSDs to install as a 2nd drive inside are specced at minimum 5500mb/s up. Huge huge difference there.
2 years ago I did a speed test of ps5 and ps4 pro and ps4

ive had a 2tb ssd in my ps4 pro for a while(samsung 870) and replaced pads(with gelid ultimate) as well as liquid metal instead of paste. its quiet with temps rarely hittting 80c when heavy 3Ding. still it has 4.2Tflops processing power when compared to PS5s over 10 and no amount of tinkering regular users can do will ever match PS5s outside of replacing cpu and gpu as well as sata for nvme(and if you are able to do this then you must be working for Nasa or similar and not upgrading to PS5 for some other reason). My reason hasnt happened(those that guessed - yes thats the reason) yet but as soon as it does i am going with PS5 the same day and putting my PS4 pro in storage to keep company to my ps3.2.1s.. meanwhile prices for ps5 keep dropping and you can already buy like new PS5 disk edition(dont cheap out for digital - you will eventually regret it) for $350 and as it always happens with tech(rare exceptions) prices will only keep dropping, so i am not in any rush

@@GearsAndTechLet the search begin! Have a good one 👍
Why does the thumbnail say $25 when the drive cost you $50? And more importantly why does it have an smd chip it appears you're installing... 😐
In the USA you can buy the drive for $25
pro tip: get a decent sized USB hard drive before starting. if you've had the ps4 a while you can back up all the data to USB apart from the OS (operating system) which is why you'd need to do the thumb drive update. after installing the OS from the thumb drive you can go straight to the settings and restore from external storage. it takes a little longer but it'd be like you didn't change anything at all but with faster storage in the ps4
much the same can be done with the Xbox One but getting to it's hard drive is as much work as you'd do cleaning it out anyway
I found the USB transfer took longer than just downloading the games again over a wired connection
Still, it doesnt turn a PS4 pro in a PS5...
If your thumb drive is already formatted as Fat 32 than it doesn't matter if there are other things on the drive.
Sony made replaceing/upgrading the PS3 Hard drive a piece of cake. Glad to see it is the same process on the PS4.
Ps5 isn't too bad either
dam, i thought he was going to do an APU swap. Gotcha.
Looks easy, does the PS4 save any crucial operational system information data on the internal Hard Drive.
If so were did u transfer all the data across to an external drive as normal prior to replacing the old internal drive ?
I just dont want to make sure .....though i guess thats why u do Firmware download.
Nothing is saved on the ps4 when you do the swap. Most game saves are attached to your psplus account. So as long as you have your user account tied in with sony then all that will download after you get logged back in
Well the cooling in the PS4 Pro is terrible with the amount of heat it generates.
I bought a refurbished PS4 Pro and replaced the thermal paste, thermal pads (added an extra one on the HDMI chip as well), put in a different fan and yeah it is pretty quite after that.
Also inserted an SSD but yeah now it blows out a ton of heat so now I'm looking for a cheap additional external fan to blow all that hot air out of my TV furniture.
My Xbox Series X on the other hand is moving a ton of air in comparission right out of the box.
im using bx500 480gb ssd as external drive for my ps4 pro and it made a significant difference

some how I found my self here. I have a PS4 pro. I am a very casual gamer but was looking to get the PS5 . kinda thinking I should do this and the fan upgrade and wait until the pro come out? thoughts
questions: ( yes there 100% noob )
1. I am guessing you loose all your D/L games when you do this. are they tied to your PS account? if so can you just re D/L them you would you have to rebuy them?
2. I have a mac book not a PC the process to D/L the reinstall software should be the same correct? just get it on a USB and reinstall to the PS4.
3. I am surprised you did not to a compare the load speeds before and after the upgrade. to give us real world proof the upgrade is worth doing.
looking forward to the fan upgrade video for me that would be the 1st thing I do.
with both the fan upgrade and the SSD would you say the PS4 pro would be 80 % 90% or what % of the PS5?
anyway great vid. man! I like how you dont assume we are all tech gurus with years of experience.
You would need to download your games again. But they are toed to your psn account. As long as you are able to login to that then there is no issue
MacBook works. You just need to get USB formatted as fat32 and get the file in the right folder
I didn't compare the speed before to the speed after because it's been covered so much on other channels I assumed everyone will just believe me when I say its a night and day difference.
After you do this and replace thermal paste your ps4 pro will be 80% of the ps5 and will last till the ps5 pro comes out for sure

which was the game you showed in the beginning?
Is there a way to simply clone the Hard drive to the SSD similar to what you do with a computer when upgrading to a bigger drive?
Yes. The ps4 software actually let's you transfer to a new drive from the old. It just takes so long that I think doing it the way I show is just as fast
is there anyway to retain data for games that are saved to the system (for example minecraft worlds) using a usb or something?
U had me all until i saw you did nothing to thermals and eventually it will return to being a jet engine good advice for speed
I did thermal paste in another video. You for sure need to repaste these things to keep them running top notch
You want a SSD with best Read/Write speeds. I recommend a 550 MB/s read and 520 MB/s write. The faster speeds makes ALL the difference! So spend the little extra. 1 got a 2TB Team Group EX2 Elite SSD and it's fantastic and was under $100 total.
Yes, faster is better
I have a SSD in my PS4, and the game "The Ascent" will not boot from the SSD. It will boot from a regular hard drive, also works with an external drive with a SSD in the PS4.
What brand drive did you buy??? Not all HD's and SSD's are the same, and even some "Name Brand" ones' supposed specs are completely fabricated and thus, some things simply won't work.
i have playstation 4pro with SSD 2TB.
Still very good.

It would be silly to do so but id imagine if they configure the ps4 to use direct storage with a newly install pcie 4 nvme then some stress would be lifted off the cpu and gpu. But id imagine only like 10% increase in performance. Not worth development time.
They don't want to make ps4 pro any better. They want you to buy ps5
Thanks for the video. The chip on the “trailer” is misleading.
Question though before you go do all this to the ps4 wouldn't you have to save or backup all of the info and data for all the games and stuff on the system? If so what is the best way or option to do that? I don't want to loose anything.

Not accurate to say u have to format the USB drive before putting on the update file. as long as u have sufficient room for the file and the drive is already formatted in a compatible mode, u're good to go. I just went thru the process so verified my comment.
Sure there are ways around it but for most people you will need to do what I show in the video
I hope the owner of the ps4 backed up his files from the old storage.
The fat PS4 I run isn't loud, but I set it to kick in earlier through hacks anyway, because I don't have a problem with the noise, although I would have problems with heat.
Heat sucks
People keep making these PS4 is better than PS5. Now matter how much you mod your PS4, being limited to 60hz sucks.. I have a 200hz monitor so being bottlenecked by 60hz on a PS4 was a no go for me.. 120hz or bust..that's why you get a PS5
Only way for this to work is with a jailbroken version of ps4 with games in cd it's the same performance
It definitely isn’t gonna be as fast as a PS5 since the PS5 uses a M.2 NVMe Gen 4 ssd that does 7,000 MB/s read and write speeds which is a lot faster faster than a SATA ssd because SATA SSDs are about 500-600MB/s
The problem with comparing numbers exclusively is that the real world difference is far less obvious.
Its the reason why the gap from PS4 to PS5 is so small. On paper it looks impressively "Better", but in the real world the graphics are marginally better, the sound is no different, and the loading times are actually close than you would think.
Can you tell me why the audio for movies is so much lower than games on my ps4 pro?
Not really sure. That's a weird one

Wait fr????
Phillips and star are totally different bits
I've always known it as a star. But yes logically it should be a x or cross
The title is baiting me. I got now a 19" Minerrack after installing 8 TB HDD with SATAn 180
This boost is worthless at all and a standard procedure. U cannot get near to a ps5 with this, man.
I'm playing lies of P and RE 4 remake at 45 fps... 250 SSD.
Would this work on an Xbox One S?
You had a beat up, broken PlayStation 4 pro gonna upgrade it do you have any links ?
Links are in description
So unfortunately got The Samsung 870 QVO instead of the EVO.. is there going to be huge difference other then longevity of the SSD? Like will speed still be ok or total bad do
QUIT BUYING SAMSUNG DRIVES!!!
They're bottom of the barrel JUNK! Buy SanDisk or similarly reputable brand. Samsung products are generally made as cheaply as possible and their monitors/tv's are the worst in the industry when it comes to color.
@@theINQBS well wasn't aware of that when purchased this 2tb Qvo SSD almost year ago. Any chance you would be able to answer my question about it though
It'll be fine.
@@sisaveli9800 It'll be fine but the actual "performance" specs might not be as impressive as the ones claimed by Samsung.
Realistically speaking, SSD's are difficult to ruin, so the biggest tissue was getting something that works exactly as advertised.
@@theINQBS Performance will be what they claim since the drive and controller is bottlenecked by the sata interface. Their is little difference between their qvo, evo and pro line over the sata interface for read speeds. Only difference is the sustained writes.
When you buy their cheap nand storage (QLC or TLC) you are going to get what you pay for. Same for their monitor's and tv. If you buy their cheap panels you are getting what you pay for. Only issue is that their cheap products are marked up because consumers associate the brand with their high end products (Their mlc, slc nand products with good controllers, and their top of the line pannel technology)
Stop complaining that you overpaid for a bottom tier product lmao.
