after the addition of chaff and even a little being destroyed causing unbelievable amounts of frame drops or PL loss... i fear for the effects this could cause... but hey, it at least looks like itd be less game taxing than the chaff or destruction effect. *i hope*.

I'm gonna take a guess they will limit the depth of deformable terrain, like only the first meter or 2 will go. Plus, FAB-5000 being entirely HE with no way of penetrating ground, blast crater might not be as big as you imagine. I'd almost think BV 238 with all its 250kg bombs would be more disruptive to enemy movements, or a B-29 or Lancaster lets say. Japanese 800kg AP bombs might be interesting too. Guess we'll wait for the dev server videos.

Gaijin just discoverd the destructive potential of the shovel (side note: when working headlights for ww2 tanks? Im tired of night battles with late ww2 vehicles and want a slight chance there (and its somthing that is modeld and dosent work ingame)
Lights only work if gaijin does four things, A make lights free, no research needed to have them (they probably wouldn’t though) B make it so that night battles aren’t just a strain on the eyes and actually make you properly blind during night battles ( I’ve got 20/20 vision and my game is set bright enough that I can accurately snipe out to 2000m during a night battle. C make low beam lights, whether it be red lights or just dim lights this would help navigate in the now darker night battles and not give your position away unless you’re close, and D make high beams/ spotlights for turrets, you might wonder how they’d be useful but I can definitely picture some super heavy driving out into a field turning his spotlight on and then shinning it on anyone shooting him so that his teammates lurking in the shadows can take them out, or I Could see them being used in a city ambush situation where you spot and enemy driving down a road and use your spotlight to blind them for a second or two to line up a good shot. But I don’t think gaijin will add headlights for a while.

For option B, they may be able to use a uniformly distributed black fog as that would make it darker the farther away you look and should not scatter light.
I was wondering if they'd ever add this ability. I've been waiting many years hoping that bombs will finally make impacts in the terrain, you can literally do a carpet bomb run and create a trench position for allied tanks now.
That's gonna be a big problem, i can already see a squad of determined AVRE's just straight up blocking the entrance to a capture point for the enemy team.
Nearly all the Russian cold war MBTs have ploughs built into their hulls, now they get to use them! Also wonder if it's possible to build a NASCAR track by dropping a bomb and using ploughs to build walls and smooth the rough bits over
Bombing airfields in air rb if this tech is implemented there would be a good way to deny rearming at bases and give players reasons to defend and intercept bombers. Would be interesting to test out!
I hope they do implement it with a "cool" down. As the big hole in the airstrip is being tone down so planes can safely land again. So yes, you can deny the enemy airfield, but not always, just some time and after that it gets "repaired"

Seems like this update will be enabling tanks dozer blades, so for example the cent and i think one of the swedish wedge bois. And then the vehicles look heavily towards spaas and ifvs
So is traction going to go back to normal now that we are going to have craters and dozers to navigate around? I mean look at White rock fortress tanks cant even climb what they could have climbed historically!

@@dustyak79 the most laughable about gajin thing is that im pretty sure there are still few spots on few maps that haven't been blocked, yet are quite powerful. I ofc can't say which, because I cannot name one map name (knowing what name corresponds to which map).
@@dr_birb All the ones I used to use have been blocked. At least the off map accessible ones. Now many powerful spots are still there but Gajin intended them. I don’t remember a lot of map names either but the one with a small lake and the POW camp used to be able to climb through a hole in traps to get above the camp. The Japan map used to liters climb the mountain to over look C cap now traction mad that impossible but rocks would done the same thing. But having used most those spots I was never invisible nor racked up tons of kills sometimes nobody drove by lol.

Stridsvagn 103С, PTZ89 has a Mine plow attachment plate, Type 74 (F) can fit a Type 92 mine roller, The Type 90 (B) can fit a Type 92 mine roller, Shermans can fit dozer blades, BTU-55 a T-55 with a plow and the M728A1 CEV could be added.
Now this is cool. The introduction of a feature like that is more interesting to me than the introduction of any vehicle in the last update. Might even finally motivate me to get the AVRE. This is exactly what we need. Features and fixes that make the gameplay more interesting and resolve some of the most common complaints to improve the gameplay experience as a whole, instead of shiny new toys, is sometimes the best thing to do with a major update. Edit: After viewing the patch notes and seeing changes such as adding timers to back-ups, I retract any compliments I gave. That's such a grimy move.

Hey, Gaijin I believe Germany at this moment doesnt have any tanks with a dozer blade, and other nations for that fact. I suggest adding a modification to the M48 Pattons called the M8 and M9 for the M60 these blades were a modification for the Patton series which allowed the vehicle to attach a dozer blade.
For the ones interested: The ship seems to be the USS Mitscher DL-2. Its a "modern" destroyer, commisioned in 1953 (and converted to a missile DD in 1966) and the lead ship of the Mitscher-Class destroyer leaders. Ingame we will get the ship in its original 1953 configuration (the flakguns over the bow turret will be removed and the rocket launcher will get replaced by a different one later on) It comes equiped with a lot of torpedoes (6 launchers with 3 torps each according to wikipedia) and 2 quick fireing 5' Mk42 guns with a ROF of 40 RPM, a variety of AA armament and the same 320mm anti-sub rocket launcher found on the Isuzu-class frigate in the japanese tree (meaning you can sink yourself if you want to xDD). A welcome addition to the western navies because contrary to the Russians the US lacked a "modern" destroyer up until this point. Cool is that mission builders can now fit out/place down an entire NATO carrier strike group (well minus the amphibius assault ship and the subs)

Aww, beat me to it. :-P Still, I don't think it's going to shake up anything, other than troll light ships and destroyers. Probably suppress cruisers a bit. Won't be able to scratch the dreadnaughts. The naval gamemode in general needs an overhaul, cap points really do not make sense for naval battles, teamwork and coordination needs to be rewarded more. There no point in spawning in a dd if there are cruisers or battleships around.
@@kousand9917 I'd argue against that since each version individually could get a corresponding BR. Classification and balance, since one of them's an ATGM vehicle, another one a mere scout and then there's the AGM carrier. TD, LT, AA
Artillery could get a lot more interesting if it can chew big enough holes in terrain to make it difficult to travel through/into. Also, lots more potential hull-down options if people can regularly crater the map, and it'll make even bombing terrain have a potential game-shifting effect.
@@MrDagenham With the way the Federal Bureau of Instigation has been doing lately, I'd take that story with a bucket of salt for now. It seems it's ok if you GIVE it away, along with billions in actual hardware, just don't try to sell it out from under them without the big guy's cut.
I'm hoping for more kinds of support gameplay for combined battles Enduring Confrontation: Transporting troops in (manning artillery / AA outposts etc.) and out (med-evac) of the battlefield for APCs and helis; Bridge-laying vehicles along with destructible bridges; Service & resupply vehicles (repair, ammunition, fuel)... ...with diverse set of missions for all of them. Anyway, this seems great, especially for high-tier Soviet/Russian MBTs, which often have hard times finding hull-down sniping positions with decent map coverage, while not being too "steep" for 5-6 degrees of gun depression.
So, I am going to turn the enemy spawn into a hole they can't climb out of. Then I am going to build a wall around it to make it even worse. Then I will drop the FAB 5000 into said hole and get a whopping load of kills. Troll mode activated.

That probably means that in the future, muuuuchhhh larger maps will be coming for maybe Sim and more players per game. That way you can actually fortify points....
Yeah, the Russians and British will benefit massively from this. The Russians all have built in dozers for their tanks. I wonder if they'll add dozer mod for tanks that did have them like Abrams or Challengers.
Hey gaijin, now would be a good time to activate point D, placing it in a point accessible only by engineering vehicles that can access and facilitate the passage through difficult terrain. ;)

The count of major updates bringing new mechanics / graphics in the game that are actually changing basic stuff - amazing work by the warthunder group of devs from gaijin. Well done.
From the looks of it, I think it'll be a wide hole, but not that deep. I'm guessing there will probably be a maximum depth for the bombs so that players can't get stuck in them, or dig a moat around spawns
having the ability to create your own hulldown area would be a godsend, so many tanks that are meant for hulldown but with very limited hulldown areas on the map.
Problem is: Only certain tanks will have access to Bulldozer blades, if you have an ATGM-carrier in an open field, there is nothing you can do. I, however, don't know how common dozer blades on tanks are so this point might not be as bad.

@@christianschneider8516 Alas I know it well. My father must have fallen into it years ago. He said when he was in the Army...(sit down now)...he said they GAVE him fully operational tanks. He didn't even have to pay for repairs! ( A Patton going full speed downhill and slammed into reverse will do a nose stand before taking off up the hill backwards.)
Bombing airfields will feel better if the holes there will also work because you could make giant holes in the middle of a runway and players cant take off properly. But who knows maybe they have something that wont cause that. The update seems quite good.

Seems like this update will be enabling tanks dozer blades, so for example the cent and i think one of the swedish wedge bois. And then the vehicles look heavily towards spaas and ifvs
So is traction going to go back to normal now that we are going to have craters and dozers to navigate around? I mean look at White rock fortress tanks cant even climb what they could have climbed historically!

@@dustyak79 the most laughable about gajin thing is that im pretty sure there are still few spots on few maps that haven't been blocked, yet are quite powerful.
I ofc can't say which, because I cannot name one map name (knowing what name corresponds to which map).
@@dr_birb All the ones I used to use have been blocked. At least the off map accessible ones. Now many powerful spots are still there but Gajin intended them. I don’t remember a lot of map names either but the one with a small lake and the POW camp used to be able to climb through a hole in traps to get above the camp. The Japan map used to liters climb the mountain to over look C cap now traction mad that impossible but rocks would done the same thing. But having used most those spots I was never invisible nor racked up tons of kills sometimes nobody drove by lol.

While the Cannerabra did have photo varieties I doubt that they will be added into game. I pretty sure they did this for trailer purposes.

Now this is cool. The introduction of a feature like that is more interesting to me than the introduction of any vehicle in the last update. Might even finally motivate me to get the AVRE. This is exactly what we need. Features and fixes that make the gameplay more interesting and resolve some of the most common complaints to improve the gameplay experience as a whole, instead of shiny new toys, is sometimes the best thing to do with a major update.
Edit: After viewing the patch notes and seeing changes such as adding timers to back-ups, I retract any compliments I gave. That's such a grimy move.
@Doom The only thing they added that was interesting to me had a stock repair cost of 28,120 SL, so I can hardly even use it if I want to still be able to afford things.

Hey, Gaijin I believe Germany at this moment doesnt have any tanks with a dozer blade, and other nations for that fact. I suggest adding a modification to the M48 Pattons called the M8 and M9 for the M60 these blades were a modification for the Patton series which allowed the vehicle to attach a dozer blade.
Most Russian mbts have built in ploughing and it’ll likely be a mod for most tanks

For the ones interested: The ship seems to be the USS Mitscher DL-2. Its a "modern" destroyer, commisioned in 1953 (and converted to a missile DD in 1966) and the lead ship of the Mitscher-Class destroyer leaders. Ingame we will get the ship in its original 1953 configuration (the flakguns over the bow turret will be removed and the rocket launcher will get replaced by a different one later on) It comes equiped with a lot of torpedoes (6 launchers with 3 torps each according to wikipedia) and 2 quick fireing 5' Mk42 guns with a ROF of 40 RPM, a variety of AA armament and the same 320mm anti-sub rocket launcher found on the Isuzu-class frigate in the japanese tree (meaning you can sink yourself if you want to xDD).
A welcome addition to the western navies because contrary to the Russians the US lacked a "modern" destroyer up until this point. Cool is that mission builders can now fit out/place down an entire NATO carrier strike group (well minus the amphibius assault ship and the subs)
That will be an interesting ship to play
@@olafkwiatkowski3785 I mean while it doesn't have a lot of main-guns, the 2 it gets have an absurd ROF (for their caliber) but the torps are nothing to write home about (because it gets Mk32s, the extremely short range ones the Ikazuchi has). Its AA capability should make up for a lot though.

The naval gamemode in general needs an overhaul, cap points really do not make sense for naval battles, teamwork and coordination needs to be rewarded more. There no point in spawning in a dd if there are cruisers or battleships around.

Artillery could get a lot more interesting if it can chew big enough holes in terrain to make it difficult to travel through/into. Also, lots more potential hull-down options if people can regularly crater the map, and it'll make even bombing terrain have a potential game-shifting effect.

I'm hoping for more kinds of support gameplay for combined battles Enduring Confrontation:
Transporting troops in (manning artillery / AA outposts etc.) and out (med-evac) of the battlefield for APCs and helis;
Bridge-laying vehicles along with destructible bridges;
Service & resupply vehicles (repair, ammunition, fuel)...
...with diverse set of missions for all of them.
Anyway, this seems great, especially for high-tier Soviet/Russian MBTs, which often have hard times finding hull-down sniping positions with decent map coverage, while not being too "steep" for 5-6 degrees of gun depression.

From the looks of it, I think it'll be a wide hole, but not that deep. I'm guessing there will probably be a maximum depth for the bombs so that players can't get stuck in them, or dig a moat around spawns

having the ability to create your own hulldown area would be a godsend, so many tanks that are meant for hulldown but with very limited hulldown areas on the map.
Problem is: Only certain tanks will have access to Bulldozer blades, if you have an ATGM-carrier in an open field, there is nothing you can do. I, however, don't know how common dozer blades on tanks are so this point might not be as bad.
I always wanted Gaijin to add more self propelled artilery, but my God am I glad they're adding weaponized construction equipment instead.

Seems like it works on soft soil like sand or mud, so it might not work with grass/stone terrain.
Bombing airfields will feel better if the holes there will also work because you could make giant holes in the middle of a runway and players cant take off properly.
But who knows maybe they have something that wont cause that.

This does look pretty great though, wondering if there will be different levels of deformation with bombs. Like say you drop one on the cobblestone streets of Normandy, full-sized crater as if it has been dropped in soft packed silt or sand or significantly smaller crater to account for materials? Could lead to some crazy situations in urban combat.
streets aren't that thick, it would not make too big of a difference I think
