I get told all the time that I would be great as a vet but I could never deal with having to watch animals suffer every day.

I almost didn't watch this episode bc I was like "Who tf is this guy" "Why do I want hear from a veterinarian on a celebrity interview podcast" Let me tell you that I enjoyed this interview SO much! What a great guy, man! I really love his story and his mission. And it really opened my eyes to the range of emotions a vet has to go through on a daily basis. I was just blown away by this interview. Great job, Katee!

I love that Katee addresses mental health. I have never been horrible to a vet, but I want to show them extra kindness now! They're right, once he explained it, it was then clear why it's such a difficult job. I gave up my childhood dream of being a vet because I knew I couldn't put animals down.

Katee is already great, but I love energy when she and Kristian breakdown the recent episode.

"It makes you want to be a better person" was my take too.

My cat had surgery earlier this year, economically crippled me. He's lucky I was able to borrow the money from someone that knows I'll keep paying it back until its cleared. But its going to take me 2 years of regular fortnightly payments.

Munchausen by proxy. In Of Mice And Men the names are Lennie and George. Your dog's name is Vargas? Have you ever read Captain From Castile -- in which the protagonist's name is Pedro de Vargas? One of my favourite books (although the movie was horribly miscast). The medical field, whether human or animal, is one of the toughest in terms of the practitioner's mental health. And yes, all medecine should be delivered gratis -- but our taxes would triple or worse and we're not yet prepared to accept that. Maybe someday in the perfect future of our dreams.

The drugs used to save pets are not free for the vets. They have to get paid.

    Katee,
    Good afternoon!
Just have to say that In Hindsight is really a very good show and I enjoy it very much; it’s the conversation behind the conversation!
Also, love the new intro and outro of the show. Do miss your laugh, but, that is ok.

I'm in a veterinary program and currently taking a class on euthanasia and compassion fatigue. Two points the teacher brought up last week that I'd never really thought about before:
The profession works from the perspective that euthanasia can be the right choice to end suffering, so when you realize that YOU'RE the one suffering... 😥
Additionally, there is access to the euthanasia drugs, which is the most common method utilized by those in the profession.
