Hey, man! I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I trained when I was 10 for a year, then I went on to different martial arts, and spent a period doing nothing and wasting myself. I'm about to go back to my old ways, which are the martial arts, I found your channel and I got say thanks for all the clear instructions and videos. I found out more information about lineage of the schools here through you, than looking around in the Brazilian channels. Thanks again, I'm gonna go after the Gracie Humaitá for the traditional old school stuff. Osu!
The more videos of yours I watch the more I see we share the same training mindset. I was just telling my students last week that being gassed was not a good reason to tap. It is however a good way of creating training scares and training yourself to quite when things get hard.
Sometimes when I roll around with my teenage son (he's pretty new to Jiu-jitsu ) I will put a blindfold on . Im definitely gonna try the 1 arm tucked away thing now as well. I'M DEFINITELY NOT an expert and haven't been training super long time or anything like that . Thanks for the info. Great video/ topic as per usual . Osu!
I’m applying the practices of The Kauai Study, as I too at 57 years (21 BJJ, 40 years weight training) deal with occasional aggravated shoulders. One thing I swear by is adopting kettlebells. I’ve experienced growth, but more importantly the absence of shoulder impingements for a few years now. No more dumbbell and barbell work for me. I like the natural rotation and weight displacement KBs provide.
@@GMunoz-oj5zb oh right right. Funny you should say that. A KB just arrived in the mail yesterday lol I'm sore right now from using it. I'll study implementations for BJJ thank you bro
Hi @kamajiujitsu, I wanted to ask a question: In regards to promotion, if a white belt showed up to your school with more than a year of experience what factors would you consider when thinking about promoting them to blue?
@@KamaJiuJitsu Thank you, How extensive is your curriculum? Ive seen versions that are pages long and I know that people who received blue belts did not know all of the items on the lists.
My teacher sometimes does multiple stripes at once or 2 stripe to next level because he forgets to stripe people. If you ask the teacher to roll over time, he can see what your game is and where you are at. After a year, you are probably only a 2-3 stripe. Enjoy your time at white belt instead of running to blue as blue belt has the biggest skill disparity of all ranks. Why rush to blue when you risk ego shattering by losing to white belts after you are promoted. It is better to be better than your rank than barely there for your own development.
@@Neviksir Thank you for the input. The original question was a hypothetical situation just to see what other schools promo proceedures are like. I have been training almost 4 years and ive only been promoted twice to 3 stripe white. Ive competed 10 times in 2 years and im not very concerned with possibly getting tapped by a white belt
@@westjr5085 Why did you get promoted twice to 3 stripe? Why did you not take your 3 stripe from the first gym? You should be blue easily then. No coach worth his salt will de-promote people coming in from new gyms. The answer always is to roll with your coach and the higher belts more if you are concerned you aren't being promoted. The high blues to browns often talk to coachs about lower ranked guys too.
Yes and no. Your visual learning as well as your auditory learning can make great use of the video content. But until you have a training partner present, it will be difficult to Accomplish the important kinesthetic aspect.
`Ha ha ha, my friend, I got lucky.`
Hickson impression is on point.
“Mind: We’re not quitting. Body, you’re going to do what I tell you to do” Amazing!!💯👏🏼👏🏼

Awesome to have you back in Jiujitsu!
Thank you for this video! I needed to hear this.
Get well soon! Have a safe recovery!
Thank you!
This was one of the most brilliant videos. Wishing you a speedy recovery Sir.
Thank you, thank you!
I'd rather learn from the best teacher I can find than the best practitioner I can find.
I'd rather train somewhere close to my house and has a good community, no meathead egos.
i've (Ryan) always had long commutes to jiu-jitsu class, except for '92 when i lived 5 min from Gracie Torrance.
I’ve seen Rener do this in person. First time I ever saw someone roll with one arm tapping purple and brown belts😂

Can you say more about this please bro sounds interesting and what is KB?

Ok Rickson handy capped himself that why he was able to escape. But what did he actually do to get out. That’s what I want to know.
Texas!🤘
Yee-haw.
Excellent point. But what's up with the sling?
Shoulder surgery. He said it at the start of the video.

Thank you!
Lol I also had shoulder surgery

If they know the curriculum from white to blue (Modules 1-6) and pass a test proving that, then they’re absolutely good to go.
