bought a Guillow's Mustang 51 when I was in my 50's and promised myself that when I retire i would build it. Had to take care of my parents because of their health preventing me from building it. I'm now 72 and I think it's time to build it. Great video. thanks : )
Love it; I built the Guillow's P-51D model. I combined and balanced two two-blade props into one four bladed prop to propel it with a rubber band... it worked flawlessly; well, until the band eventually broke and ripped through the side of the plane. But before that, it had tremendous power and flew perfectly. It stinks that lightweight four blade props; let alone, any useable four-blade props are hard to find for rubber-band planes. Yours looks incredibly nice.
Thank you for your message. Unfortunately I missed documenting the construction of the prop. It's not that difficult ... I'm sure I'll catch up on that one day.
I'm just finishing constructing my P51 from the Vintage Model Company. Watching him wind up the rubber band I had no idea that is how it is supposed to be done ! Pity he didn't show some of the construction and trimming it up before his first flight. It's amazing how far it can fly just with a rubber band.
Fantastic, the drawing out of the rubber band before winding is a brilliant idea. Almost 50 years ago I built a j87 Stuka. may have been a guillows kit, 3 months to build 7 seconds to destroy. only 11 at the time knew nothing about flight. Hoping to try again. Thank you.
Thank you for the comment. Such a beginning can prevent a successful start in this hobby. I was more fortunate: I started not with a scale model, but with a sports model. They are easier to build, easier to fly, much more robust and easier to repair. Greetings from Switzerland - Andreas.
Thanks Oliver. The great airfield is only 10 minutes away from my home by e-bike. But the moments when the model can still be found and the plantings are not trodden on by me are rare ...
@@rubberfly very cool. I go by bike when I can, it’s often too crowded here in NYC. But I am also in love with bikes and have been working as a mechanic for the past several months. Cro-moly and balsa go well together
It has a real tendency to a hard banking left turn. This could be a result of the heavier 4 blade prop having more angular moment of inertia. Maybe shim the left side of the prop a little more to compensate. Beautiful plane!
Thank you very much. What a coincidence: The Sopwith Camel from VMC is already in my handicraft cupboard. But it usually takes almost a year to build a new model and turn it into a video. Thank you for your patience ...

Beautiful flight! I'm curious... how does it fly with the inbox two bladed prop? Beau vol ! Je suis curieux... comment vole-t-il avec l'hélice à deux pales de la boîte de réception ?
Very Nice! SO fast. Lower pitch props might get you more climb, plus a little less speed. Fast, like a pylon racer, come to the US and enter it in an FAC blur race... if you can get it to fly straight.
Thank you. A Mustang has to be fast. OK, a little more climb would be great too. But with flying straight ahead ... I'd rather go hiking in the mountains :-)
Finally I understood your comment correctly - my English is getting better and better. I really should participate in this great event with my Mustang. But I will come only after my retirement in about 10 years, but then I stay for a whole summer.
Very beautiful work and flies really well. Regarding the propeller: how did you calculate the diameter and pitch? Are they similar to the original two blade prop? May you describe us how did you build the four blade prop? Thanks, Stefano
Thank you. I didn't calculate the propeller. I made the four blades with a carved prop block for a 7" diameter at 9" pitch. I like big propellers. The original 2 sheet prop didn't give me enough thrust for the proud weight of the model. Optimizing the thrust direction then took quite a few flights. Unfortunately I did not document the construction of the prop. I'll make up for that on a next project ...
I was expecting to see Julie Andrews singing that the hills are alive with the sounds of music. Fantastic, loved it and I must build it. Cheers, what country are you in a couldn’t pick the language? 🇦🇺👍🍺🍺. 🇺🇦🇮🇱🫡

Unfortunately, the build of this prop is not documented. From another prop with three blades are a few pictures in another video of mine: ruclips.net/video/Hruw5LkHLqw/видео.html 😀 The stooge is mainly made from a digging fork from the garden shop.
The blades of the prop are reinforced on the outside with glass fibre fabric. In addition, the model always landed in the grass. So far, this prop has never broken😁
Thanks. The landing gear is not removable in the original plan. In the model shown, it is held in place with small magnets. But I don't use it for flying, it would probably get lost by every time she landed.
