  • I decided to pull out my 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth out to get it ready for driving this spring. I knew it had a power steering leak that needed to be addressed but I was floored when the master German car specialist Car Ninja agreed to work on the car for me!
Turns out he LOVES these cars and was super exited to get his hands on it.

Brings back a lot of memories seeing a white 3dr bought one of these when I was 21 (1996) back then I paid £6.500.
Quick observation car looks to have the original fuel pressure regulator which you should consider changing ASAP as these are now starting to fail, it would be a shame for that beauty to go up in smoke.

A low mileage RS500 just sold this week in the UK for £596k at Silverstone auction, it obliterated it's guide price of £150k - £180k.

Hi Brian. Great to see your Sierra RS Cosworth. I have a couple of RS500s in the UK (check out The Late Brake Show on RUclips when Jonny Smith came to visit me). Beautiful car. I had a Sierra 280 gt in Venezuela when that country was rich! In fact parts can be still found there because it was an extremely popular vehicle. The Aerodynamics of that vehicle and the lightweight was completely out of it’s age, what a pleasure to drive. Some part sites have still parts on these, they are in spanish. And great channel.. keep it going!!

One thing to look for is the fuel pressure regulator going bad and causing engine fires, a lot in the UK are going bad due to the age of the car, make sure you also have a fire extinguisher in the car. This is good advice, please do not ignore.

This was my dream car back in the era, my aunt drove the civilian standard RWD of this exact body style, in blue metallic. Their styling is weird, both pretty and ugly at the same time, like only '80s cars can be, but this bodystyle was the nicest of all the cosworths in my book. I did later manage to get the 1990 4x4 16v Turbo Celica which is just about as special, mine was a JDM spec direct import but LHD, oddity, the paperwork is all there for it and the engine is JDM spec, not Euro or US. It's still kickin, just a bit annoying to get parts for, there is a Euro spec one of 1991 which should be the same car, but every part is just a little different, so getting parts for it is a huge pain and tons of shipping fees.

I’ve seen vids of Paul Linfoot in the UK (I think under Paul Linfoot Racing) who is. He’s maintained restored and owned everything from top level GRP A race cars to rebuilding fire damaged road cars. Left & Right hand drive. I’d reckon he could give sound advice or parts for the rack. I saw that he bought a ton of spares from Eggenberger.and considering all those cars were left hookers.
