RIP Phife Dawg! Only 20 years old in this video. Can’t believe it’s been 8 years since he passed. Last year we lost Dave from De La….where does the time go??? But it’s good to see this early 90’s hiphop is still getting play in 2024, a testament to how truly great this era was.

@@dogsandyoga1743 I feel like from Midnight Marauders forwards, phife wasn't the best lyricist, but could still put up a decent fight against any of his peers. Everything before that has that 80s silly comedic party fun vibe that stopped cutting it right after the very beginning of the 90s. The tribe guys I believe sure noticed that, being the reason why The Low end theory has a more heavy boom bap style and more raw and mature lyrics and flows, still experimenting with their sound

Dope!! There's a subtle ambient chord playing in the background during the Phife's verse..I don't know if it was apart of the original track or if it was added afterward...but its dope either way..RIP Phifer

Dug Roove hahahaha that is so true! In the UK atm lot of the young urban kids who belong to gangs listen to something called drill musicm Its awful and literally has a few brainless phrases they keep repeating purely about violence. Its so bad it actually makes grime music sound pretty good.

No BS that was hip hop at It’s pinnacle!!!!! you needed crews like that back then to just act a fool and laugh and just bug out with your peeps you came up with. Those crews helped uplift your spirits because it was absolutely necessary back to balance life as we knew it back in the 90’s from all the bloodshed and loses of loved ones

Yup. I love these old beats too because they heavily sampled funk music and funk music is my all time favorite genre. They still sample stuff now, but it's almost as though they try to hide it so people don't realize it and most people nowadays don't listen to funk so they'll never know it. Dre was great at picking very obscure tracks to sample from funk to soul music. Songs most people will never run into. He did this for Eminem, Tupac and many others I'm sure.
