Worked like a charm for me!!! Thank you Sir!!!!!!. Now my wife's Sthil is once again louder than she is..... No she's not whining about her Stihl not signing at high revs! The 15 minutes and lil bit of propane sure beats the heck out of the minimum $75 and 2 weeks it would have spent at the repair shop even after I had already replaced the air filter and spark plug!!!!
Spot on. I did a complete tune up (which was needed) and my 40s was still choking. I knew my Stihl blower had a spark arrestor but didn't know there was one on the muffler on the trimmer. Burned off the carbon build up...voila! I appreciate you posting the video.
great help. Thanks! i tried it on my 7 yr old FS80 and it helped the stall problem but not completely. Read an online post to clean the muffler by soaking in degreaser for a couple of hours and clean. i did that, rinsed with soapy watch, and blew dry. FS80 runs like a champ. i will do better yearly maintenance.
Butch Trimble thanks brotha!!! Means a lot to me being able to help. I'm gonna start doing more videos soon. I just moved to Asheville NC so keep watching I'll be posting some soon
Thank you Sir for your helpful video. I have the exact same Stihl weed wacker and had the exact same issues. Followed your tips and it runs like new again !!!
Dewayne Samples good deal. I'll be putting more videos up soon. I just relocated to Asheville NC and I'm gonna start doing A Lot more videos. If you or anyone has a request. Let me know.
My stihl model had a slightly different screen/muffler setup, but this video was spot on. Running great immediately after I cleaned it. Thanks so much for a great video!
I have a Stihl fs45 and mine is in the back of the muffler,I didn't have a blow torch so all I did was put mine in a fire lol I let it get red then hit it with a wire brush,it seemed to do ok lol thanks for the video man,it's a awesome trick that saves a ton of money
Not a problem on a lot of your blowers, and some newer weed trimmers, there is a nipple on the muffle that takes a 13mm socket, you can unscrew that and follow the same procedure..keep watching, ill be posting more videos soon
Well , I was so excited I might get it to run I stopped moving and took this apart. It wasn’t dirty. So I’ll either buy a new carburetor or check again for broken air lines. I figure the carb is my culprit
I have a 5 year to 7 year old FS250 that starts up but it boggs really bad and is very slow to warm up without partial choking. High speed jet all the way CCW helps but not right even after warm up. I suspect a fuel problem but this looks a possible culprit. Your thoughts Sir? BTW...Great Video!!!
thank you for your reply I changed the gear head to one that I can lube cause the one it had originally was sealed and you couldn't apply greese on it I should of just left it alone but I wanted to be more on the safe side I do keep spare air filters spark plugs and fuel filters I change them every 3 months and I use echo red armor oil and it runs perfect I usually mow 12 to 15 properties a day with this unit 5 days a week last week I really put it to the test we mowed a 2 acre property that was abandon for more than a year the grass was over six feet tall you could get a mower in there me and my helper had to do all the property with the trimmer man that was a big task it took us 8 hours to clear off everything this trimmer hold up perfectly I'm still surprised I thought these units were junk when I would see lawn guys using them I was so wrong this unit only cost me $219 and I've been spending over $300 On fs90 and fs110 when this unit can do the same job and parts are even cheaper thank you.
Victor Rippe no problem I'm here to help. If it says stihl it's not junk. Like I said maintaining it is key. You can take the head off and grease the drive shaft on it and that will keep the vibration down and keep it running smooth. Don't be surprised though if it all of a sudden a bearing goes out or the clutch goes bad because it is a home owner unit and the clutch and bearing isn't as strong as a commercial one. You have made your money back I'm sure and it's paid for itself and now it's making you money. Good luck and if there is anything I can help you with I'm here.
Man Of Steel thank you I really appreciate that yeah i will buy clutch springs and clutch to keep them as spares as for piston rings I'll keep on using red armor oil to give those rings more life I have a friend of mine that also has fs56rc and uses his commercially for over 3 years with no issues if I get 3 years out of it I got my money worth again thank you for your advice.
I have one of Honda's thimble shape spark arrestors and I have held a regular propane torch up to it for a solid 4-5 minutes and the end is still clogged. Is there anything else I can do.
Greg Brooks take the muffler off and make sure the exhaust port is not clogged. Also you can take the torch and heat the inside of the muffler and after you get it red hot lightly bang it on concrete to knock the carbon loose. On the exhaust port use a flat screw driver to scrape the carbon out. Try not to get it into the cylinder.
Man of steel I have a question about the same trimmer stihl fs 56 rc the cutting head keeps falling of I can put it back on and tighten it up and it will be hard for it to turn but it will loosen up and fall off would you happen to know where I might start with repairing it?
William Coley you should only adjust the screws while it’s running. The FS66 is a very old trimmer. Does the carb still prime up?? You should set the carb back to original setting. Turn it clockwise until they stop turning then turn each one back 1 turn to start.
Man Of Steel yea at the time I tried everything, it ran for about 10 seconds, maybe,,, so I’m thinking you solved my question,,, I’m in the process of moving to a new house right now, so I’m very busy... I’ll give all this info...
Thank you for your video I've been using the stihl fs56rc commercially and I'm really surprised how well this unit has hold up my dealer told me as long as I use stihl oil or echo oil that this unit will hold up really well is there anything I should look for in this unit since I use it commercially from your expertise thank you.
Victor Rippe just make sure that you keep the driveshaft loop. Make sure that you keep your cutting attachment head with some grease maybe check it once a month if you're using it commercially. Other than that there's really not a whole lot to check this basic air filter spark plug just take care of your unit . Maintenance is the key to keeping those alive. If it's working for you don't fix what's not broken.
Carson Myers yes there should be a nipple on the muffler you can get to without taking off the muffler. It should be a 13mm socket. Unscrew it take a torch and burn off the carbon and reinstall
I took my BG 86 blower to my local authorized Stihl shop today to get repaired. I was having the same issue described on this video. My screen was cleaned by the shop and I’m thankful they only charged $12. Next time I’ll know how to fix it myself!
future shock yes it's the same as the FS 40. The FS40 50 56 are all 4140 series motors. Meaning the motors are grouped into types the 4 strokes are 4180 series motors.
Hey one question for you.. I have owned a FS 130 R for about a Year in a half now. I have used nothin but I think 93 from the gas station, not only that but I have put at less 30 gallons of bad Gasoline into my Baby. Now I have been Blessed and I have had no problems when I first had gotten her I had been using the Gray oil from Stihl and recently I have changed to the Orange oil But honestly I do not see nor hear and nor feel any difference. I have gotten the 50HR check up but nothing else.. Tomorrow I I'm going to my local ace hardware store Tomorrow in PV AZ and will buy a new Spark Plug and Air Filter As long as a New Gas Filter. I will be doing a Therly cleaning on my Engine and Plastic this weekend and she'll hopefully be Brand new lol.. Also I don't think I need to clean my Screen but I will do so anyways.. But also I really want to see my piston to see if and if so how much Carbon Build up is their? And if so, Should I use See Foam My Engine? Please please reply to this comment
To this comment ASAP and tell me everything that I need to know and do And get Thank you very much, Please check out my RUclips Channel for my Videos of My Baby (: (: Local Proud Owner Of Stihl (: Stihl Rocks Ass :)

I must wonder how many dollars these repairman make doing this simple task. I’ll get back to you after I have time to try this, thanks
My sister took her brushcutter to the repair shop because it was bogging down with no power. Told her over the phone it was the spark arrestor. They charged her $180. When I went to her house the following week sure enough I unscrewed the muffler and sure enough there was a new $3 spark arrestor slotted in. Would have taken them two minutes at most. Rip off merchants.
Honestly, why put the spark arrester back in? I know Stihl is required to have one installed to seel their equipment, but in a typical landscape setting why would anyone need one? For me, I am talking about Weed eaters, hedge trimmers etc. in residential areas, not chainsaws out on the woods during the summer.
Well for liability reasons it needs to be in there. For example say you are a landscaper and its hot and dry, and you are running your hedge trimmers and say sparks fly out of it, without you knowing, and it catches the hedges on fire which catches the house on fire. see my point .will it run with it out? yes, will it make it run any different? no (maybe the sound will be different. From a liability stand point, and a safety factor, I recommend it being in there.
kakarot well again it might not ever happen to yours. But it has happened to others so that's why they put them in there it's an EPA thing. They're required to do it.

+Marty Wood you don’t have the space plate on that goes between the head and the gear box. That’s what the gear head spins on
Thanks .... I did the cleaning but I see you skipped the part putting the cover back again. It Is a pain in the rear to do that!

Oh yes, I’ve adjusted those high and low gas screws over and over, I even used my drill to turn the motor my arm got so tired. If you can imagie

Mine doesn't look like it has the arrestor, just a one piece muffler ??
Is it the same way to clean muffler on my HS45 hedge trimmer
Troy Campbell the HS 45 has a nipple on the muffler if I’m not mistaken. It’s a 15mm socket. Unscrew it and torch it.
