the passage that got translated from chinese to english is actually emulating the style of some of older texts where a lot of these more out there descriptions are more par for the course!!! this kind of stuff is not terribly unusual in older chinese literature. there are some crazy descriptions of men as much as there are women. and the demoness name sounds a lot more actually intimidating and poetic in chinese than english here's a description of guan yu a military leader from the three kingdoms era: "Liu Bei looked over the newcomer, item by item, and he noted the man had a huge frame, a long beard, a vivid face like an apple, and deep red lips. He had eyes like a phoenix's and fine bushy eyebrows like silkworms. His whole appearance was dignified and awe-inspiring."
Yeah, I also read a few danmeis a while back (internet footprint goes crazy) and one of them had a really good translation with authors notes, which said that “sword-like eyebrows” is a Chinese expression for a specific type of eyebrows that goes upwards?
The Michelangelo line from the third totally reads as someone who knows Michelangelo was a great artist, but couldn't be bothered to check if the art matched what the author wanted to show. Crazy. Love you pointing that out.
This guy at my school writes fanfiction on Wattpad and describes women like this. anecdote about the last one, the translated one - I read a lot (like a LOT) of translated webnovels, and it's definitely a cultural difference. the "stereotypical pretty" skin is often described as "like a peeled egg," "like you could pinch water out of it," and "so pale it was almost glowing." I agree that it's an adjustment to get used to reading (and picturing) but I also think it's funny that these descriptors were so focal here lol

The "snake eyes" definition reminds me of Strong Bad pretending to be a "goat face": "I don't mean I have a goat's face for a face, or a goat's head for a head, I mean my face is an entire goat."
On a somewhat more serious note, every time I read things like the ones at 9:35, I worry if that’s how men actually think about women and fems. I know most are definitely not that absurd lol, but the fact that there’s a whole subreddit for this kind of thing. It freaks me out what men might perceive about my body before even thinking about me as a person.
Idk boys that well, but I know one that thinks some incel stuffs and like, haha coolio 🙂 . other then that most talk about boobs or butts the same way girls talk about bra size.
I wouldn't know because I have no sexual urges but it looks as if those people are just porn addicted or incels. From what I know, for long term relationships, men do not really care about appearance as long as the person is appealing enough, You could say most women also do that but I am not one so I wouldn't know. Ignoring the weird fantasies, most men would have fantasies but they either stay in their mind forever or they eventually let you know. From what I see, men are just more interested in how someone looks than women, even though both look for about the same thing, a partner that fits them emotionally and has similar values, etc.
Definitely. The writer was calling himself out (as any writer does when they expose their work to the public). Context. The story beyond the description was part of a supposedly disturbing collection of short stories. The description itself was of a fictional Las Vegas call girl in 1965, published 1967. Hence what I assume is her stage name and which is also the title of the story, "Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes". It's quite on the nose if you ask me.
8:14 the description matches so many girl creepypasta characters it's unreal, Sally Williams, Jane Everlasting before she was attacked by Jeff, Clockwork, etc, it's like the default description of them to have brown hair and green eyes
The brown hair is because they want to seem "average", BUT they need to stand out somehow, so they give them green eyes instead of blue (preppy evil girls have blue eyes, apparently), but brown eyes are too boringgggggg (according to said writers, at least).

Since Reverend Insanity is a Light Novel (that's basically how Japanese, Korean and Chinese people call illustrated books for a teen-young adult audience, not to mistake with Visual Novel), I wonder if the first and last girls have an official appearance. I think they wouldn't be that funny, but I'm still curious lol Anyways, great video as always! I love when you draw these weird descriptions literally!
Reverend insanity is fairly popular in China. So, I wouldn't doubt it. I might even go check, although I will have to do some searching for the first girl. For Blazing Heaven, she only has her zombie pictures.
snake eyes is also the term used when you roll 2D6 and get 2 "1"s, so i couldn't help imagining eyes with 2 "1"s in them exept that only works assuming that the dice rolled are TTRPG dice, which uses numbers instead of dots if you roll regular dice, your snake eyes are probably gonna look like 2 small dots, which are... exactly what pupils look like so yeah, we all got snake eyes, thanks for coming to my TED talk :33
The physical die double 1's are also referred to as snake eyes, I don't know why or how but to add to it, the 6's and 1's are also usually the only numbers coloured red and snakes are also associated with bad luck. Not all snakes have those slit eyes too so it might also be a cultural thing, where I live most if not all snakes have the same dot eyes as other things Weirdly enough, I actually only knew about the physical die double 1's being referred to as snake eyes, had no idea it was a thing for the numbers too
@@exceptionallyriso well it's usually the dot dice that's refered to as snake eyes when rolling 2 "1"s, but the term can be used for any pair of dice both rolling their lowest digit
I would imagine that the way to depict that would be that her irises are d6s, with the face shown to the world being single pips for her pupils. At least for this mood/look.
14:00 i think you kind of depicted rather the imagination of the person, that wrote the paragraph, rather than the person that he tried to describe within it lol.
I can't wait for her to cover A furry. Like at least one furry novel has to appear on the subreddit, right? It would be hilarious for her to get started on the drawing, only to realize "Oh, when he told her a 'cat' he _was_ being literal. Half of these features _are_ literal."
This was so fun! I loved it. The second one was absolutely my favorite. Not from the passage but from the way you made the slippery darkness. I love your creativity so much! 😂
12:08 not just the men. Using Michelangelo's work to describe a female/feminine character is hilarious because one surefire way you can tell his work apart from other renaissance painters is that all the women are shaped like buff dudes with boobs. He had no earthly idea what a woman looked like, so the irony is great
These videos actually make me laugh out loud. Something about your bewilderment combined with the genuine delight in reaction to these descriptions, really tickles me!
4:50 ohhh, I remember this! I saw it the other day when I went to check out the subreddit myself (those shimmer shimmering shimmer shimmer jade eyes) shimmer Edit: Thinking about, I'm also a brunette with green eyes. Now, does that mean I'm the center of the universe? Does the world revolve around me? Am I some star fallen of the sky? Plus, determining one's personality based only on their looks is just... dumb! Cuz, like, shocker!! someone's features (which they can't pick and choose, mind you) DON'T define the person! The stereotype that blonde girls with blue eyes are just a shell of a human is... bleh😵
@Petit.lion06 it can. You even find kids with two brown eyed parents can have kids with blue eyes if one or more of the grandparents had blue eyes. Im super pale with blue eyes but my brother who has the same two parents i do got the darker skin tone and darker eyes.
2 possible interpretations of her eyes being energetic or whatever the phrasing was. 1. Since she was a zombie before, her eyes were probably dull and dead looking, now they're energetic and full of life, as signified by a focused gaze with highlights on the eyes. 2. She simply has a determined look on her face. Like she has a goal and now she's locked the fuck in!
Imagine describing someone as having eyes like a pool of snakes then saying you want to swim in them. He wants to swim with the snakes
Maybe they're really friendly snakes?

Just Lorna being wicked
*GASP* YES IT IS😮😮
Every year I finish rewatching the show I feel empty inside :D
Since Reverend Insanity is a Light Novel (that's basically how Japanese, Korean and Chinese people call illustrated books for a teen-young adult audience, not to mistake with Visual Novel), I wonder if the first and last girls have an official appearance. I think they wouldn't be that funny, but I'm still curious lol
Anyways, great video as always! I love when you draw these weird descriptions literally!
Reverend insanity is fairly popular in China. So, I wouldn't doubt it. I might even go check, although I will have to do some searching for the first girl.
For Blazing Heaven, she only has her zombie pictures.
Imagine women actually looking like that it’d be terrifying btw I love your art style and your content keep it up
The wet floor sign on the slippery darkness omg 😂
1:08 I think I used to draw someone like this in art class.
5:33 that's not your girl that's Messmer the Impaler
What the fuck I was opening the comments to post this exact thing
This series is just too funny; the first one had me cracking up and I love the narration and game you added for the long one 😊
9:45 someone should tell the author that michellangello didn't paint very feminine women. his necks were rather muscular, in fact
To be fair, that could have been meant. Or they could have only ever been exposed to Michelangelo's David.
THE PAPAS FREEZERIA PART 😭😭
22:27
"Stop Spinning"
Continues to spin
Ol' Snake Eyes is kind of serving, but Maggie is some truly terrifying stuff there. She's very very very scary
How dare youtube hide this from me for 17 seconds
10 minutes for me
11 minutes for meeee
1. Hour.
It hid this from me for 2 whole hours, you ain't slick darlin'
@bea_chan Darlin' is killing me
I love your edits on the long description bahaha
snake eyes is also the term used when you roll 2D6 and get 2 "1"s,
so i couldn't help imagining eyes with 2 "1"s in them
exept that only works assuming that the dice rolled are TTRPG dice, which uses numbers instead of dots
if you roll regular dice, your snake eyes are probably gonna look like 2 small dots,
which are... exactly what pupils look like
so yeah, we all got snake eyes, thanks for coming to my TED talk :33
The physical die double 1's are also referred to as snake eyes, I don't know why or how but to add to it, the 6's and 1's are also usually the only numbers coloured red and snakes are also associated with bad luck. Not all snakes have those slit eyes too so it might also be a cultural thing, where I live most if not all snakes have the same dot eyes as other things
Weirdly enough, I actually only knew about the physical die double 1's being referred to as snake eyes, had no idea it was a thing for the numbers too
@@exceptionallyriso well it's usually the dot dice that's refered to as snake eyes when rolling 2 "1"s, but the term can be used for any pair of dice both rolling their lowest digit
@@BABABABABANCHAN it did originate from the dot die first
@@exceptionallyriso yeah
I would imagine that the way to depict that would be that her irises are d6s, with the face shown to the world being single pips for her pupils. At least for this mood/look.
14:00 i think you kind of depicted rather the imagination of the person, that wrote the paragraph, rather than the person that he tried to describe within it lol.
Well I already got both of them The physical print copies of your unfamiliar series lavender
I better get cracking on my next book then!! (just kidding of course, thank you so much for the support ;; )
Editing Hailey is my spirit animal
omg I love the convo with editing Haley. That was awesome
11:02 Exquisite literature indeed
12:08 not just the men. Using Michelangelo's work to describe a female/feminine character is hilarious because one surefire way you can tell his work apart from other renaissance painters is that all the women are shaped like buff dudes with boobs. He had no earthly idea what a woman looked like, so the irony is great
I love your shading style so much, it’s so impressive my artist brain is very happy
15:44 queen never cry
Why did autocorrect make queen sure
9:19-11:10 The description was so long i was able to travel around the whole word 3 times
It took 240 days?
@@jvgreendarmok yup
12:00 I can’t tell if this lass looks like a biblically accurate jojo character or something from Shrek
the "Freshly peeled egg" and "use non-slip shoes to go near *this* darkness" sent me
Thank you, editing Haley, for the papa’s freezeria clip
Hailey I love you, your voice is so calming. God has blessed us with this gorgeous woman, her gorgeous art and her calming voice.
20:59 I think she hide 2 giant boiled eggs under her dress :D
This, as an aspiring writer myself, urges me to be better. Glad to be watching your videos lavandertowne!
Okay here's the thing. Leggy girl with sword eyebrows? I adore her. I actually unironically love that design.
Love this so much, please continue, there are some real gems on that subreddit. And never worry about going too far, that’s what makes it so much fun!
Blazing Heaven Demoness would be a good name for a punk band.
These videos actually make me laugh out loud. Something about your bewilderment combined with the genuine delight in reaction to these descriptions, really tickles me!
honestly i think the snakes eyes idea does go INCREDIBLY hard for a character design
I love watching you in the background while I work on stuff your voice is so calming
4:50 ohhh, I remember this! I saw it the other day when I went to check out the subreddit myself (those shimmer shimmering shimmer shimmer jade eyes)
shimmer
Edit: Thinking about, I'm also a brunette with green eyes. The stereotype that blonde girls with blue eyes are just a shell of a human is... bleh😵
Shimmer eyes are when your eyes change color due to being a magic crack addict in “Arcane.”
As a white passing half native with subtle visual tells, i get the description. It doesnt bother me personally but maybe thats because its relatable.
The thing that bothers me is the blonde hair blue eyes bc im pretty sure that couldn't happen genetically? But i could be wrong and i am white so 🤷
@Petit.lion06 it can. You even find kids with two brown eyed parents can have kids with blue eyes if one or more of the grandparents had blue eyes. Im super pale with blue eyes but my brother who has the same two parents i do got the darker skin tone and darker eyes.
The Papa's Freezeria gameplay in the middle of the ridiculously long paragraph made me laugh out loud.
9:20 - 11:10 Torbeck doesn’t understand any of those words in that order!
-Torbeck
22:41 AMONGUS SKIBIDI CAUGHT ME SO OFF GUARD 😭
LMAO SAME- i went to the timed just too see if anyone else saw 💀
editing haley popping up during the video while the description for the character was being read is just SO relatable as an editor, I love it
2 possible interpretations of her eyes being energetic or whatever the phrasing was.
1. Since she was a zombie before, her eyes were probably dull and dead looking, now they're energetic and full of life, as signified by a focused gaze with highlights on the eyes.
2. She simply has a determined look on her face. Like she has a goal and now she's locked the fuck in!
The first girl: "And they said my legs toooo looong" *music from that meme kicks in*
