In this video we're listening to XTC. We've only heard some of their work in the 80's, and we're interested to hear more. Enjoy! cynthiamartin.... gofund.me/5fa9... / hanierfamily
XTC was really underrated and I think its because they did what they wanted. Multiple song writers, multiple singers and multi instrumentalist and minimal egos. Theres a very good documentary entitled "This is Pop" thats really worth watching too.
I grew up with a lot of British new wave in the house, courtesy of my mom...Elvis Costello, XTC, Squeeze, etc. All great artists, but in my opinion XTC is the best of the bunch. Very rare is the art-rock band that has such an arsenal of both sweet pop melodies and crunchy, spicy grooves.
@@sylvanm4216 listen to the whole of Treasure (1984), Victorialand (1986), Blue Bell Knoll (1988) and HOLV (1990). IMO their finest work. My highlight tracks include: Cico Buff, Pink orange red, Pitch the Baby, Little Spacey, For Phoebe still a baby, a kissed out red float boat, Aikea Guinea, Lorelei, Pandora to name but a few. Her voice is incredible on all of these. Great musicians as well. Just enjoy their back catalogue
Huge XTC fan here. By the time of this album things are definitely more polished, and if they were ever going to have a "hit" in this country, this would have been the time. This one is written by Colin Moulding, (he got 3 on this double album) and his songs were usually a bit more "pop friendly" (Nigel). I've loved this band since I bought "Drums and Wires", went out and bought the first two, and was on board. So many great songs, so much great writing, and without a doubt one of the strangest covers of All Along the Watchtower you will ever hear. Nice upload.
I got to see XTC ( & the Jam) at place called Emerald City in N.J. (.....My fav song XTC song No Thugs....that & Oingo Boingo's Only a Lad were both Awesome Commentaries...
LOVE you are doing XTC!! New Subscriber,,,,,Found You By Squeeze Reaction Another nail in my Heart one of MY FAV songs of All time !!!,,,,Glen' s guitar solo AWESOME !!! ...met them & Elvis Costello in 81....Tower theater ( in Philadelphia Pa)....few months later saw XTC....check song No Thugs in Our House..

What a band. Beatles and Beach Boys rolled into one. Try Mayor of Simpleton, We're All Light, Easter Theatre. ......oh......the list goes on.....and ....on.....and ....on.....and.... on.. ...
Probably my favorite XTC song! So happy that you like it as well. If you're looking for other XTC suggestions try Mayor of Simpleton (from the same album as King for a Day). My wife calls it "a perfect pop song".
I grew up with XTC during 70s & 80s they have always been my fave band ! Quite easily one of the best bands to ever come out of the UK . Glad you like them ?
Hi there Great channel as always Great selection, I don't know to many xtc as I should ,maybe the track your thinking of is "senses working overtime " I recently bought that on 45rpm from 1982. A very innovative band. Your right the beatles and the kinks were very much on their radar. Andy Partridge sites the kinks album The village Green Preservation Society as a big influence on XTC
Another great review you two. So happy you've been alerted to another of our great underrated bands. Apart from other suggested tracks below, you can't go wrong with some of their early singles like Statue of Liberty, Life begins at the hop, and Making plans for Nigel. Other tracks I'd really recommend are Complicated game, the Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead and a track off their penultimate lp, Green Man.
Saw Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding do this with two acoustic guitar at the former WDRE radio station here on Long island NY back in '90, I won a radio raffle. They are a superb band. Unfortunately Andy suffered from Anxiety and they very rarely toured throughout the '80's.
Life lo,g XTC fan here (Yes, I'm old). Not my favourite track, still were people a bit more demanding harmony/melody wise, this should have been a worldwide hit.
A good XTC song, not their best but not their worst. What I don't like at all is this recurring percussion throughout the song and I suspect it comes from the 2015 Steven Wilson remix who favored this element because it was not on the original album when it was released in 1989. Might as well stick to the original mix ! 😉

I love the lyrics..”the way that we’re living, all taking, no giving..” so appropriate for today.

Did u discover the Cocteau Twins?
@@jamesobrien1440 I did not grow up with Cocteau Twins and remain unconverted to the gospel. Got a song to recommend to an unbeliever?

Somebody once said XTC were GOD's apology for the Beatles splitting up. You could throw a dart at any of their songs and always hit the bullseye.

XTC is fertile ground. Lots of great music. Saw them in concert in the early 80s…. Keep ‘em coming.

XTC is one of the best groups of ALL TIME. Please do more reactions and I'll watch. I recommend 'Chalkhills and Children'.

As much as I love this song, the chorus is basically "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears for Fears.
XTC are a wonderful band. Mayor Of Simpleton or SGT Rock are two other great songs of theirs. 😎
My XTC song recommendation is Easter Theatre.
XTC also did a couple of LPs under the name The Dukes Of Stratosphear of which I think "25 O'Clock" is the better one to listen to.
The "Psurroundabout Ride" gives all the Dukes songs the surround sound treatment, remixed by Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson. It's phenomenal 👍
My favourite XTC track (and there's some stiff competition). So uplifting.
at the very least..the comparison to the album cover and Yellow Submarine cover Beatles album..
Also, compare them to the Beatles! Look into Dukes of the Stratosphere, it's XTX under a pseudonym creating some really great psychedelic rock/pop.
Life lo,g XTC fan here (Yes, I'm old). Not my favourite track, still were people a bit more demanding harmony/melody wise, this should have been a worldwide hit.
Beatles influence: wait until you get into the Skylarking album
Excellent choice of band are XTC, try Generals and Majors or Sgt. Rock to name a few! .
please do "Chalkhills and Children" by them, you'll be amazed!

Not one of his better songs, too much radio friendly for my taste. But XTC is my favorite band, his lesser songs are good too.
