But beyond your great playing (as always)...those DRUMS...they sound SO good. Pearl obviously...but what’s the snare? Maybe 5 ply maple? Or something lighter, maple/poplar or mahogany blend? It’s your touch, but the instrument...wow. I endorse Canopus officially, but I might “cheat” and track down one of these snares...PLEASE don’t tell anyone...

I am honored to have come to the party early. Usually, I'm sliding in at around comment #800 +. Not being a drummer myself, I will defer to your fellow percussionists with opinions or comments about your new kit. I wonder what the ratio of percussionists (drummers who can play piano) vs. drummers (drummers who can't play piano!) is? I would estimate it's 5%/95%. I can certainly appreciate how an understanding of music and reading makes a big difference in the overall music. Since I last visited your channel I have come to learn how close I live to Alan's most recent place of residence. I'm only 10 minutes from there maybe. I never met Alan, but became a devotee 35 years back. I really don't know whether I should miss him or not! After all, he progressed and I grew to view his music differently in time. I'm a pretty serious researcher and reporter of taboo subjects that I suspect Alan would have zero interest in. BUT, one area of particular interest is corporate and media malfeasance. Ah ha! Road Games comes to mind; what I later learned was a great source of "Metal Fatigue." I wonder if you've ever shared your perspective on that story-line? I only know bits and pieces. But I DO have a rough view of Warner Brothers. I can only imagine what it's like to come in with the carte blanch of Eddie Van Halen, and produce the many volumes of a master-work. And then, to be shocked at the resulting, "Mini-LP!" It was like, 6 cuts? I hope it didn't escape you and Alan that those 6 cuts were as important to me as anything I can think of, at the moment. I am choking slightly, to be honest. I only wish the experience could have been more mutual. OK, that's a bit long. I will visit your site and may even have time to get into your series soon. Either way, when asked which drummer I dig most...GH, as usual.

Re Road Games, I really don’t know too much about it since that was one of the albums I had no input on at all. I remember the lead up to it all, but I was out of the picture soon after that point for a while. Surely was a fine album though! 🙏

But maybe I can make up for the transposition ;-) Do you recall touring in the US with Level 42 and perhaps opening for Madonna? Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View I believe. I bought tickets as a goof to entertain my good friend Jay and with the hopes of seeing lots of cute girls! I've been embarrassed for years because, Jay and I had a few Red Barrels by the time Level 42 came on and were very distracted. I completely tuned out the band, awaiting Madonna. Later I learned that YOU of all people were probably the drummer. Worse still, my buddy Jay was a trumpeter and drummer...huge fan of yours! And of course Madonna was truly ridiculous. I really hope it wasn't you, but... O.K. I'll leave you be now. I thank you for taking the time. Stay away from any viruses, or better yet avoid anyone wearing a lab coat.
peterdarinklein Actually we had a few years in U.K. as a new band before us taking the original iou to the States in 1982 and toured substantially that year. We had a brief falling out in 1993 but I was back with him during the Metal Fatigue album time onwards. Chad and I would share the drum duties for all the following touring and recording decades, usually depending on who was free at the time. By the way I never played in America with Level 42!
